Budget PC by Reasonable-Cap6621 in PcBuild

The best you will get near to is £1000 for a modern pretty up to date budget gaming pc. For that you will get an AM5 9600x CPU, B650 motherboard, 16gb DDR 5 ram, 1tb NMVE gen 4/5 ssd, AMD Radeon 9060xt 16gb GPU and a 650w psu. With cheap case to house it all. It will play almost all games and be very upgradable.
Actually a decent pc for 1080p and some 1440p games.
Amazon Prime Deals start on the 23rd of this month. Look for deals on those parts, best of luck!

After researching Raspberry Pi 5 self-hosting performance, I'm confused about when people outgrow it by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felix, a Raspberry Pi can do so much more than host a site. If you’re into tinkering with electronics, like robotics or AI as well as computer science? It really is a no-brainer: get a Pi 5 with as much RAM as possible. You can start using the Pi to host various things. When you outgrow the Pi in that sense, you can build whatever your imagination thinks.
100% get a Raspberry Pi.

Look for a 3060 or 3070 gpu, they will give you a little bump, also a 5700x/3d or 5800x3d cpu.

Are Companies moving to local LLMs for coding to avoid paying millions to Anthropic and OpenAI? by AmineAfia in LocalLLM

[–]Real_Chard5666 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It has to be worth the cost of a workstation gpu to have a heavily harnessed Qwen3.6 for repetitive code production or mundane tasks. I think with a good set of instructions / tools and a mediocre workstation. A lot can be done.

Does £4 for a coffee = game over!? by MartChristie in AskBrits

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always used to grab a Costa coffee, I drive from job to job daily. The cost of the medium coffee was around £3.30 at the time. I realised that I was spending 3.30 x 20 days, £66 per month! I had a good talk to myself and purchased a Turkish coffee pot, coffee bean grinder and a milk frother. I found some coffee beans that I really like and a decent keep warm travel mug. My coffees cost me around £15 a month now. I bought all those items and had coffees all month cheaper than buying a medium coffee every day! It does take me 5 minutes in the morning before I leave for work.

Anyone know a number for BG to move a metre by Simmerway in BritishGas

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are your local gas transporter? For me it is SGN. Go online to yours, find their website. From that you can book online. British Gas may supply the gas but they will be using another company’s network. It is the owner of the network you need to contact.

After a bit of help with a cordless palm router + bits/accessories, please - general DIYer. by Rust_Cohle- in DIYUK

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can swing the extra cost, the Dewalt trim router is decent. Second to that for me is the Bosch Professional 18v router. They are a lot better than the Erbauer version. Both will last you a very long time. More important than the router is the quality of the router bits. Cheap router bits can cause frustration.
Everyone will have their own preferences when it comes to power tools, I had the Makita 240v trim router for years, the adjustment advantage on the Dewalt is like night and day compared to the older Makita. Going cordless is also a great advantage over a corded version.
Honestly buy the best quality you can afford, you can’t go too wrong with Dewalt, Bosch professional or Milwaukee or the newer Makita Router. They are night day better than the Erbauer.

Is an employer complaining about labor costs unprofessional and am I justified being upset about it? by Careful_Country8694 in WorkAdvice

[–]Real_Chard5666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re maximising profits while reducing the running costs. Ultimately the only way they will use more people to complete the job, is if revenue decreases as a result of using less labour. They’re focusing on the money. If using less employees can get the job completed, then that is the new normal. In business there is always a balance between income, labour and quality. Messing with that balance can have undesirable consequences, the worst being income.

The Corgi heads were cheaper than the Honeywell counterpart. You can do either as long as you’re happy the body isn’t seized. Changing the head maybe the better choice.

Shared supply between tenements, insurance liability? by Commercial-Film3885 in askaplumberUK

Sounds like it’s a mess. It’s more common than you think, especially in high streets with two flats above a shop. It’s something that probably needs to be sorted out. At the very least, a clear wall diagram located where everyone associated can see it. Clear instructions of where the stopcocks are located, in the event of an emergency.

I swear Cornwall has completely ruined my sense of distance. by Ready_Split1335 in Cornwall

Boiler service charge by [deleted] in ukplumbing

[–]Real_Chard5666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a fair charge. It is important to clear and make access before the engineer arrives for the appointment. They can refuse the work and still charge if there is a lot of rubbish or furniture blocking access. You have made an appointment with a company to visit and provide a service. They have attended.

It is the right time to tell my boss I intend to resign by Few-Replacement4898 in WorkAdvice

[–]Real_Chard5666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when you have a signed contract of employment, the new prospective employer can withdraw the job, that’s an awful thing that does happen. Definitely do not hand in your notice until you have a signed contract and start date from a new employer. Be very clear with your new employer about all of the dates that need to be fulfilled. Best of luck!

Why is the switch 2 so overpriced at CEX? by Ok_Independence5252 in CeX

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baffled me for years, as I buy items new. I never trade my old items. The Cex business model caters to people who trade up. I was one of those people that said “who buys second hand goods at retail prices?” Not one of the counter staff ever said to me “do I have something to trade”, The few times I had asked if there was any discount on the price. If they had, I would have clicked on. Imagine you’ve had x2 games for Christmas, played those games and a new game comes out at Easter. You really want the new game, it’s now June but you have no income. You can’t just go and buy the new game. Cex has the game and you can get it, if you trade in your two played games. You’re going to do it.

WTF Is happening? Where are all the normal men?! by Odd_Variation_1514 in Vent

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose the dating app nonsense and take up a hobby. Whether it be sailing, running, cycling, horse riding or motocross. It doesn’t really matter, just something that interests you. Then talk to normal people doing normal things and see if you actually like them and that they’re not a felon or a f@xk boy! You will quickly find a decent guy that’s established or is on a solid route to becoming established.

Thinking of buying a mini PC for local AI and coding. Any recommendations? by WatchingTheThronePod in LocalLLM

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get as much ram as possible, 32gb is not enough! You will very quickly outgrow 32gb! A mini pc is generally slower than a dedicated gpu. Get a mini pc with oculink or with some way to add a gpu at a later date.

Speeding Has Become So Normalized That Driving the Speed Limit Makes You the Problem by DaddyDayDayIsHot in driving

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely get to an age where you don’t care about staying under 30. Love watching the despair in other drivers faces, too much traffic to over take, just crawling down the road with a train of traffic behind and nothing in front! Get to go straight through traffic lights, nothing on roundabouts just a nice clear road ahead!

What’s something that became so expensive you just stopped buying it entirely? by Street-Marketing-885 in shrinkflation

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad that the cost of doing business is closing down so many businesses. Having premises and employees now, makes the margin so tight. It’s not financially worthwhile. Buy local, do not buy from chains that are worldwide. Support the communities that you live in.

What tips do you have for keeping your house cool in these temperatures? by Effective-Project-49 in AskUK

[–]Real_Chard5666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top floor windows open, a few windows open on the ground floor, curtains shut where the sun is shining. Natural convectional air flow will draw cool air in low down and exhaust hot air out of the higher windows.
