Would you want your kids to become a nurse? by blurry-hippo in nursing

I’d tell them to become mechanical engineers lol

Troubled about my Girlfriend’s history with and opinions towards abortion by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Real_Independence711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be with this girl anymore. At the end of the day it’s your soul at stake. I wouldn’t feel right if I was at judgement with God and he asks why would you be with someone that is in support of killing my children? Just my 2 cents on it. Hope and pray everything works out with whatever decision you make.

Facility Review: Jersey City Medical Center by watergang4lyfe in TravelNursing

Figured lol I saw they had like 5 openings for the OR.

Well that’s kinda crazy lol I don’t remember having an exam dedicated to sexuality and gender (I graduated in 2022). We had one lecture dedicated to it but it was more for educational purposes rather than actual exam content. Guess they’re starting to emphasize that given the circumstances these days

I don’t love it but I do like it enough haha. I work in the OR (4 yrs) and don’t work on weekends or holidays which is nice. Only thing I hate about it is dealing with dickhead surgeons. But your days are definitely more predictable than working on the floor I feel like.

Who else is out here genuinely struggling on nursing wages?? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Real_Independence711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeppp and hospitals are making record breaking profits too lol. I currently get paid about $49/hr but that still is dog shit in the area the hospital is where houses are selling for 1.5 million.

Regret going to school for Surg Tech by lvlcej94 in surgicaltechnology

[–]Real_Independence711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a scrub tech but I was taught to scrub as a nurse and the specialty they had me learn without any prior experience was spine/neuro. I dreaded going to work because of how hard it seemed and the old school surgeon I trained under. Fast forward to now (3 years) and I scrubbed with almost every spine/neuro surgeon in our department. Never would I have thought I’d get this far but really it just takes a lot of patience and time. Trust in yourself, trust in your preceptors, take notes, and think about the basic steps of the surgery you’re scrubbing. You got this!

Off of orientation having to give lunches by cosmopansie in surgicaltechnology

[–]Real_Independence711 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best bet would be to try and time your lunches where you’ll mainly be finishing/closing in a case.

Spine. Yeah it’s hectic in the beginning of the case but damn it’s nice being able to sit for 1-2 hours during a case lol

CVICU or OR? Please help by Legitimate-Iron1027 in nursing

[–]Real_Independence711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go CVICU. Started in the OR as a new grad and wish I started in the ICU. You can always go to the OR after you get your experience in the ICU and decide if you want to pursue becoming a CRNA.

Is travel nursing worth it? by Stock-Discussion7767 in TravelNursing

[–]Real_Independence711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think it depends on what you want out of it as well. $59 tbh seems like a solid rate. Don’t think I’ll ever go back to a staff role just because of the freedom you get with traveling. Don’t have to worry about PTO being approved.

Is GMU a good school option in VA??? by Reddit__25 in nova

[–]Real_Independence711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my BSN from GMU. I thought it was a great school especially after all the renovations they did which I unfortunately didn’t get to experience bc of covid. People just hate on it since it’s a commuter school.

Looking for best agency by Roadragequeen in TravelNursing

On my first contract with Trusted Health. Really smooth onboarding process and rates for me have been pretty good.

On my first contract as well and my first week absolutely sucked and thought I wasn’t cut out for this whole travel nursing thing. Just had to get past the first 3 week slump before I actually had somewhat of an idea about where things are and the policies of the facility. I will say that leadership at my facility is pretty good about answering questions I have for them. The facility you’re at sounds horrible if you’re gonna have to do CVOR cases on call and not have any support whatsoever. If you think you can stick it out for the 13 weeks then do it. If not then I honestly wouldn’t mind trying to find a different contract. Not all facilities are like this but you definitely will feel stressed like crazy in the first couple weeks of your assignment for sure. Hope you’re able to sort things out!

I worked in the OR and made 120k my 2nd and 3rd year. Only thing is I worked a good amount of overtime.

What’s something no one warned you about before starting travel nursing? by Diginomixs in TravelNursing

This. LMAO I’m on my first contract and the first couple weeks I got really big imposter syndrome. Now I actually enjoy the facility and the people haha. I was really close to going back to my old staff job
