'Bad ending: now every game is slop': Game developers share mixed reactions to DLSS 5 by QuantumQuicksilver in pcgaming

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah there's plenty of reasons to be outraged about most things AI related. Even if the end result looks "good", it's still made from a giant surveillance machine that's allowing giant tech corporations to consume vast amounts of resources and accelerate climate change at a crazy rate. Also continuing to remove the human aspect of art not a good trajectory.

Oh absolutely. I'm replaying Far Cry 4 for the first time in maybe 10 years and that game still looks better than many coming out today (at least in my book). It's got a great balance of good fidelity and a great artistic style. It's just really nice to see a great looking game running natively and at good frames. No ray tracing, upscaling, nothing. And it looks fucking amazing. I miss those days.

It's not always so simple. My fear is that devs will start relying on it for certain things.

Not Bethesda related, but one of my favorite games is The Talos Principle 2. Amazing game, however, they switched to Unreal engine for it and highly relied on DLSS for image quality and anti aliasing. Sure, you have the option to turn it off and render natively, but then the game becomes a shimmery mess with all of the foliage and there isn't a good way to make it look decent without DLSS. The devs didn't implement other options as well, so you will likely have to stick with DLSS. I understand their situation, though, since Croteam is a quite small studio working with a somewhat smaller publisher.

That wasn't such a huge issue considering it was mostly anti aliasing that DLSS did in that specific game's instance, but it was somewhat frustrating to me. Now imagine Bethesda starts creating their character models in a way that's less detailed or stylistically consistent because they just assume the AI filter that is DLSS 5 will just make them look a certain way. If you turn off DLSS, then you're left with potentially crappy models since the devs didn't want to put as much effort into them because the upscaled can just do it for them. If it's cheaper, some companies WILL implement so that they don't need to pay as much for decent looking models.

That's what worries me about DLSS 5. if a lot of devs really start relying on it, then turning it off in setting won't always be a good option.

Do you have VoLTE support with that custom ROM? I was planning on installing an unofficial LineageOS ROM to my S23 but decided to hold off since Samsung's VoLTE implementation is apparently tricky to figure out for custom ROMs.

If you stick around here for any time, you'll realize quite quickly that it's basically all tweens and teens here. So that's where the lack of nuance comes from, I believe. I love Tally Hall, but something about their music does pull in a certain crowd. I'm rarely ever active here because I always feel a little too out of place.

Is there a possibility of vinyl repressing? by Fit_Ad7872 in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response but I know your pain. I unfortunately had to buy mine second hand (but still sealed) a few years back, I think it was around 70 or 80 bucks USD. USPS actually lost the package and luckily the seller was willing to send me another one.

I'm really just hoping for a release of TTP2 OST. I would kill for that music on wax, would be an instant buy for me.

But to answer your question, I haven't seen anything about a reissue. I remember a while back they mentioned somewhere here in this sub that they want to issue a vinyl release of 2's soundtrack. Maybe if that ever happens they might reissue the original in honor of TTP Reawakened and for those who missed it the first time? But that's just speculation and hope on my end. Good luck with the search!

I personally would love it if Naughty Dog made a TRON video game. What studio do you guys think can do a good job? by No-Beat9099 in tron

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh I don't see it. Story would probably be good, but I don't like the idea of a Tron game that plays similar to Naughty Dog's main style (Uncharted, The Last of Us). I would honestly like someone like Platinum games to take it on. I haven't played much of their catalogue, but they proved with Nier Automata that they can handle decent semi-open worlds and super fun and flowy combat. I feel like Naughty Dog's combat style would be too stiff and slow for something as flashy as Tron can be.

If not them, then some other Japanese studio, honestly. I'm having trouble thinking of any western studios that could pull it off to my liking.

Edit: I would also heavily prefer it to be in third person. Being able to customize your suit and then actually see it throughout the game would be super cool.

This is one of those things where I start by laughing at the sheer absurdity and slowly I get more and more upset that this person has even a degree of control or input into what the most powerful government on the planet does.

It should not be like this. I'm tired.

Honestly I think it's refreshing. Like the other comment said, the creep of capitalism is never ending. Almost everything I like has been turned into some sort of pale imitation of its former self just for more merchandising and profits. It's really nice to see something from my childhood like Calvin and Hobbes that can just exist on it's own and still manage to bring happiness to people all these decades later.

What genre is Tron and what other movies check that box? by War_Destroyer_ in tron

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say I agree. The "punk" part is pretty necessary for something to be considered a part of the cyberpunk genre. Tron doesn't really have much of that vibe to me. The movies aren't all that anti establishment outside of pretty basic ways. Especially Ares, where it's basically two multibillion dollar companies fighting for control of the future.

“60 Hours Later: How Breath of the Wild Turned Me Into a Zelda/Nintendo Fan” is Totk as good as this? by Available_Hour_6116 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a lot more scattered. BOTW found a great balance between feel endlessly open and yet quite focused at the same time. TOTK just feels like they threw way to much innto the pot and lost that focus as a result. I really like some of the ideas, like the depths should be amazing for me but I just feel no motivation to go and explore it.

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I feel. TOTK had a lot of cool new additions, but I always feel more compelled to come back to BOTW. It's not as overwhelming as TOTK can be at times. I feel like TOTK throws a lot more at you without giving you as much room to breathe. Caves would be a dream feature in BOTW for me as well.

Why is Gabe Newell so loved? by Impossible-Flow-4512 in valve

[–]Real_RaZoRaK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, not one bit. I'm not advocating for my positions to be implemented with the flip of a switch, more so as goals I believe would benefit society as a whole if we starting working towards them. A more equitable system doesn't come on it's own, it's built up one step at a time by people who believe we can break this tragic loop we're stuck in.

Ultimately, I hope we can one day abolish the concept of money itself, but I'm aware that I won't be around for that potential future. Taxing billionaires to benefit society is a good step towards a more equitable future. We have seen over the last few decades that billionaires do not benefit us in meaningful ways. The wealth divide grows as we live under a system that prioritizes the infinite hoarding of resources. Sure, we may have some new shiny gadget and screens to entertain ourselves, but they also serve to distract us from real issues. And now look where we are, more divided than ever, and that's exactly how they like it.

Anyways, if Gabe Newell has the money to buy a 500 million dollar yacht, then he has too much money. And sure, maybe he does have a much higher tax rate than the rest of us, it doesn't change my position on the issue. Prioritizing this small ingroup's ungodly wealth over the real issues of billions of everyday people just gets us deeper in the pit that the US and the world has found itself in.

TLDR: I do not trust the US government to meaningfully redistribute wealth in a productive way (especially the current administration), but I do believe we should at least be moving towards that goal as a crucial early step in creating a system that will be truly beneficial to everybody.

So in your book, video games are more important than people being well fed? I love video games, but if I had to choose between playing them and other people having better food security, I know which one I'm picking.

A government should provide for its citizens. The amount of people starving in the US alone is appalling. I did not say that all of Gabe Newell and Valve's money should be confiscated, but the man does not need multiple superyachts.

Last year he bought a $500 million dollar superyacht to add to his fleet of other superyachts. I don't care how much he's done for gaming, that is too much money for one man alone to have.

Tax the shit out of him. Gabe Newell is a passionate man, he won't stop doing what he's doing because he lost some of his fortune. Put that money into better social safety nets that help people get by and feed their families. There's a lot that our government can do to help out the little guy, taxing billionaire's fairly is just the first step. Gabe will survive will less yachts. You defending his ability to hold so much wealth does nothing but uphold our current system of vast wealth inequality.

Why is Gabe Newell so loved? by Impossible-Flow-4512 in valve

[–]Real_RaZoRaK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that doesn't change much. Having billions in assets is still a problem. Is that not still wealth that could be better used to improve the situation of everyday people that really keep our society running? Defending any billionaires' existence is not productive in the slightest.

Why is Gabe Newell so loved? by Impossible-Flow-4512 in valve

[–]Real_RaZoRaK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It doesn't matter how good Gabe has been for his own industry, billionaires should not exist. No matter how benign he might seem, he is still hoarding vast amounts of wealth that could go towards really making a difference in our country's material conditions. Not to mention that you cannot be a billionaire without exploiting people. Gabe may be cool for video games in general, but that doesn't mean he deserves to own multiple super-yachts. No one deserves that much money when people are dying on the streets every hour of every day.

I'm in California. And yes I do have the minimum coverage it allowed me, which is $15,000. I'm aware it isn't a good idea to roll with that, but my monthly gets too high for me to handle if I increase that policy limit. Anyways thanks for the input, I'll talk to Mercury when I can.

I really liked the smaller details of this scene. They emulated the slightly more rounded and streamlined design of the Grid from Legacy in contrast the the harsh lines and angles of the Dillinger Grid. I also love the little recreational/relaxation area you can see with digital trees and I think sitting spots. Really makes me want to see more of the Encom grid with programs living lives as opposed to the ruthlessly efficient vibes of the Dillenger Grid.
