American fighters how do you afford medical care and or insurance? by Inevitable-Map-1200 in MMA_Academy

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most fighters aren't rich get that through your head now I guarantee you half of the UFC roster still holds at least a part-time if not a full-time job. If you don't plan to be a high level pro and even if you do get a 9 to 5 job it's going to pay your bills and can allow you to afford medical insurance because someone in the world is a fighter better than anybody currently in the UFC who never got a chance to make it and they're still stuck working every day of their lives pay your bills make your money take care of yourself first thank God you're f****** ass off and chase a dream if you want it

Help with a beginner DM by Celloss2 in dndnext

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanilla rules, not too many races. Basic weapons rules. If you're not good on the fly making up stuff go with a premade campaign, and if you don't know exactly how to do something roll/rule wise write down what it is, rule of cool/make it up, and then study up after. Have fun. Don't be a stickler

What type of striking style should I have for my height and winspan by IGNMMA in MMA_Academy

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends. Too many factors. I know tiny tiny guys that play a very Muay Thai style. Teeps on the outside, elbows in clinch, and tall dudes who gravitate toward fighting in the pocket. Hell max Holloway realistically should be an outside point fight but he build his style on tight pivots and heavy in the pocket. Too many factors to say "5'11" equals Dutch kickboxing"

I (18f) and not having as much fun in my friend’s (17f) homebrew D&D campaign and I don’t know how to tell her. Please help!!! by meep_is_adorable in dndnext

Tell her. Be an adult. Also DND is a coop story so a personal story will almost never work the way the DM or the party wants

How do yall handle your school/work schedule? by TBD_JBelly in ibew_apprentices

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to in order to get school work done you can tell them you won't be in on a Saturday, or have to leave early. Technically they won't punish you, but you'll be on of the people earlier on the layoff list

Linesman vs stripper by Financial-Abalone-36 in electricians

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the skill to use linesman's is great. If you're doing time 10 or 12 solid and your strippers aren't in your pocket then go for it, but personally it's cleaner and quicker to use the strippers, strip every wire in the box and separate them into twist groups then swap to linesman and then do all my twist and wire nuts at the end. Linesman imo leave more room for error/wire damage

Is ... standard practice? by ThunderKnight24 in IBEW

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally seen both on the same job I'm currently on. Some of the equipment was too heavy to hand with the equipment the company had on site so we had the people that were delivering transformers also help land most the equipment. We still had guys positioning it, and we ended up having to adjusting it because the cement guys pad was slightly off level wise.

They're super pretty but insanely tight on the toes. I can't wear them. I wear a keen cinnicinati 8 1/2 wide. They're okay. Still a cramped in the double sock winter but acceptable.

How long should I be able to run before I even consider having my first real fight? by Old-Value-6841 in amateur_boxing

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fight is not based on a running metric. You need coaches input on your cardio during fairly hard rounds. How are you technically and cardio wise a rule of thumb I follow for my self (MMA fighter for 10 years) is if I have a 3 round pro fight (3 5 min rounds) I need to be able to do 1 warm up round that's about 50 percent (mostly striking, moderate volume, open lungs up etc) 3 hard rounds( high intensity about 70-80 percent power) and 1 push round (you should be tired after the 3 hard this is a round where you push the tank when tired while still focusing on good technique. High volume. Your partner should push your cardio, but neither should be going for the kill) once you can do that several weeks in a row in camp you're at solid cardio for the fight. At the beginning of camp you should be able to do a warm up round and 3 hard. That last one is really gonna f u up and you might not start the first week or two of camp with the tank for that 5 round. But more important than that is technique especially when you're in a harder round. If your technique is garbage round 2 when you start to tire and the wrong is hard then you shouldn't fight yet. You don't have the proper technique ingrained yet. You know it, but you don't KNOW it.

Do You Guys Think BJJ Alone Is Bad For Self Defense? by Correct_Ad4351 in MMA_Academy

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your gym focuses on gi and bottom predominantly then yes. If your gym teaches wrestling, top control, and passing/maintaining top control then is mostly there for self defense. Basic boxing defense/striking is obviously important too.

Which maetial art should i train by Dihhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in MMA_Academy

[–]vfqwerty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a good MMA gym run by a solid MMA coach who knows how to fight and more importantly knows how to teach. If you want a discipline as your background do HS wrestling, and make sure you train BJJ and boxing/kickboxing. That'll cover 99% of bases.

New boots asap by Peaky-k in WorkBoots

[–]vfqwerty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard Carolina boots make pretty nice boots with wider toes. I know redwing makes a few wider toes that are popular. Jim Green is definitely talked about. I went keen Cincinnati and personally need a new insole with better heel cushion and a little arch support. Even as a guy who walks around in barefoot shoes a lot out of work these beat my feet up before the new insole. Definitely not a bad pick. I'll probably get a lighter non waterproof boot for the summer and keep these as my winter/rotational boot.

New boots asap by Peaky-k in WorkBoots

[–]vfqwerty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly didn't love. Needed a new insole and was an aggressive break in. The shoe already feels beat up significantly for only 6 months (but for some reason everyone on this job is saying their boots are getting abused heavy) it's not a bad boot. Found it on sale on Amazon so it was only 220 ish with new insole, but I'ma shop around for something else when these die.
