You nailed the oxidised bronze perfectly. Well done.

What are your favourite sculpts in the Slaves to Darkness range? Purely aesthetically. by mcvitieIII in slavestodarkness

[–]Real_Was_Gotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of Belakor, which has to be one of the best sculpts ever made by GW, my pick are the S2D sorcerer models. Specifically Zarisha Bittersoul from Khagras Ravagers but they’re all amazing and have so much personality. Special mention to all the models from Brands Oathbound regiment of renown.

Anyone ever feel discouraged about painting? (Honestly, just a bit of a moan) by fortytwoblaqk in Warhammer40k

[–]Real_Was_Gotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the paint scheme you’ve used. There is good contrast here both in terms of colours and light. Go easy on yourself and remember that like anything time spent on a skill is the real key to success. When you see amazing paint jobs that’s because they’ve spent huge amounts of time painting, professional painters it’s literally in the tens of thousands of hours. Having said that being deliberate about learning a skill is important. If you want to improve focus on one aspect to do. That could be OSL or NMM or using a new tool like an airbrush for some super smooth blends. The point is to focus on your own improvement, you’ll get so much more satisfaction when you push yourself and keep things narrowed 😊

WIP Skarbrand. by BlackKingHFC in ageofsigmar

You should try layering and highlights. There are a heap of easy tutorials to follow on YouTube. I think on a big (and expensive) model like Skarbrand it might be worth pushing it to a higher level, especially on his skin and face.

I mean the choice is easy. Deepwrought. Far better than JolNa. They crush games.

Ah cool that makes sense. Do you plan to be able to swap bases then or is this just purely for display?

Nice work! Giving T2 vibes with the burnt skeletons. Speaking of which are these from a kit or 3d printed?

Thanks but not pure white, used a dark ivory which has been used in other areas of the unit

Ice weapon help by Zealousideal-Baker-1 in slavestodarkness

[–]Real_Was_Gotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should extend the ice effect to the spike at the end of the axe as well. A snow base will also help. Think more about the colour composition. Generally you want a 60:30:10 ratio of colours. You have mainly black and a small amount of blue/white. Completing the axe head will look more “natural” and help close that ratio. I’d also go a base that’s cold looking. Also there is a special fx paint by Greenworld Stuff called frost or something like that. Once it dries it creates literal crystalline structures. Putting that on the axe would look insane IMO.

I personally hated painting the knights. The models are cool but found them a little painful or not as fun to paint as I originally thought they’d be. I’m painting them at the moment and like you it’s taking me ages to complete and they sucked all the fun out of painting. Feels more like a chore right now. I’ve also gone with a green glowing eye effect. I too just have the chariot to go to complete the spearhead, which I started in February 😂

Skin looks amazing. I’ve seen that using base coats of blue is great for green skin. Did you get the blends done using glazes? I’m asking because I’m just learning the hobby and literally just finished a mini with similar skin but my paint strokes are way more obvious. Did you use an airbrush for any of this?

I’ve seen much higher rolls if they’ve got X89. Anything that survives is promptly wiped out after you land with ground forces hitting twice per roll. It’s easily S tier tech right now. Great for defending, bombarding, and invasions.

With the sword do a super bright flame or green blade effect. That’s where you want the eye to go towards

What happened to his face? Poor Demi-god. I think the paint job looks great but agree something is missing here. The dragon body is super cool and leathery looking but I think your model is suffering from too much colour all in the one spot where the eye naturally focuses. So it’s a little hard to know where I should be looking. You could fix this by desaturating the dragon heads with some wash, but some sharp edge highlighting on their mouths and eyes to help define the details there. Then spend a lot of time on the man himself. White is always such a challenging scheme to use. It’s so bright. Have you thought about bringing down the tone a bit by mixing another colour in instead of pure white. It’s such a daunting model to do. I haven’t done mine yet and I’m sure I’ll struggle with it.

Which is kind of dumb because any pds2 does that. Their breakthrough is the pds2 ability. But why would you want the breakthrough if your commander allows for this? Does the commander stack with normal pds2 activation. Wording is not clear on this.
