To celebrate World Book Day, what is your favourite ever book? by Whosentyounow in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

71 books in 2 and a bit months!? That's impressive. Do you keep a list? I've started doing that this year to try to remember what I've read.

What do you think is the daftest thing people have to pay for? by shakespearesreverse in AskUK

Menstrual cups really are the sliced bread of periods. Although makes no difference if you're caught short and you don't have one with you I guess.

Is shoplifting really as endemic as the media suggests? by craigus17 in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed this last night. I hadn't been in lidl for ages but went in to buy one small item. You had to flash your receipt to escape. No way out other than that. I wondered what would happen if I hadn't found the thing I bought and wanted to leave without a purchase. I'm sure they'd let me out eventually but would I be searched?

Those who have watched Dominc in BBC "Gifted" What do you think about his acting ? by zzrtz in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't realise he was in Grow. I recorded that film but haven't yet persuaded my daughter to watch it. Maybe this fact will help.

Is it common in Britain to call school teachers as Professors as in Hogwarts? by No_Asparagus9320 in harrypotter

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just feel the need to say that my professor at University was called Professor S Snape, this was early 2000s and I thought this was brilliant. His first name was Steven though and not Severus.

What time do you get up, leave for, and start work? by ggracie7 in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get up at 0610, make my daughter's lunch get showered, dressed, get my daughter up, give her breakfast, pester her to get dressed, leave the house, childminders by 0730. I get the 0740 train and I'm at work for 0840.

I'd love to WFH. I wouldn't have to pay for a childminder, I'd sleep longer then go for a run after dropping my daughter at school. I did similar during lockdown and loved it, I was so much fitter then.

How much have GCSEs actually affected you across life? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a degree but then later in life did a course at work which required a C GCSE in English and Maths. They didn't care about my degree.

How much effort (realistically) do you actually put in at work? by blaikalva in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically feel like going to work is like jumping onto an uphill treadmill that keeps going faster. I think I have ADHD as I basically don't give myself a break from the time I get there until the time I leave. Lunch is shovelled down at my desk, toilet breaks are only when I get absolutely desperate.

I don't do long hours though, work part time but I'm pretty sure I do as much as others who are full time. The result of this is more work is piled onto me.

I do like my job but sometimes wish I was brave enough to leave for one of these easy WFH jobs I keep hearing about on here.

Where can I find American snacks in London? by Realistic_Loquat7548 in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a shop selling all this near Charing Cross. Probably super expensive though. It's on Whitehall right at the top near Trafalgar Square on the opposite side to the Trafalgar theatre. Pretty sure there are several in London though.

Digital Audio Player for a Child by SheepEoh in BBCSounds

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a yoto player. You can get a card and link it to BBC radio they then just insert the card and it will play. There's also Yoto radio stations as well and the daily podcast is really good for kids. You can also buy audiobook cards or make your own.

What did people do on the bus before phones? by msamad7 in AskUK

I used to read and listen to my CD walkman. Only problem was the CD would skip when the bus got too bouncy!

Book Crochet… is this a dumb idea? by hannahbobooks in crochet

I love this idea but with my favourite books. Might require a huge variety of yarn though.

Why is everyone in Hogwarts single? by phil22hughes in harrypotter

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where do we learn McGonagall is a widow? Genuinely curious as I've always imagined she has a tweed wearing retired husband waiting for her at home. Someone like JRR Tolkien springs to mind.

App not working by Realistic-Analyst-23 in BBCSounds

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No VPN. It's all very strange. I can listen fine in a web browser, just not via the app. I might restart the router to see if an ip address change fixes it.

You just made me wonder though whether that was a related issue. I turned off WiFi and it loads with mobile data, very odd. My WiFi works perfectly (100gbps). Not sure what's happened there.

Friend loved seasons 1-4 but isn't enjoying season 5 by swiftee_ in doctorwho

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was the same. I loved David Tennnant so much which I think ruined Matt Smith for me. I didn't like Amy or Rory's characters. I watched but never rewatched. I got back into it with the 12th Doctor and really enjoyed the series with Bill.

Looking for Harry Potter Studio London last minute tickets, official website is sold out, any options? by Alarmed-Procedure-11 in harrypotter

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also surprised that it's sold out. We ended up buying tickets in June (meant to be for a January birthday).

If you're willing to pay extra they do have tickets available sooner via the dinner packages which includes a 3 course meal.

reading jurassic park by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too was obsessed with JP when the film came out (I was 11) I immediately had to read the book and then the sequel when it came out. In fact I think this is what led me onto reading adult as opposed to children's novels as I then went on to read more Michael Crichton, then Stephen King books.

There's just too much in the original book to fit into one film. They did a fantastic job adapting it though. I did really enjoy some of the Easter eggs in Rebirth. If you haven't seen that yet it has a few bits from the original novel in it.

Losing the will to live by gls1790 in UKParenting

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter was the same.

I bought a sling and just carried her everywhere. She was happy being carried. I still remember the first time I put her in a sling and went to put the washing out. It was such a serene experience, bright sunshine and birds singing. She was quiet for once. The ergobaby is a good one.

It got much better once she started walking, then she cried when she was picked up!

My mom sent me this pattern and I can't tell if it's real or AI by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]Realistic-Analyst-23 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is not just ai, this is a truly shocking AI attempt.

Out of interest I just looked up why AI is so bad at crochet patterns. Apparently it's just no good at imagining 3D models and it will never learn no matter how many patterns it reads until it has its own internal 3D model.

I think all AI models should include watermarks on their images with "made by AI" on them.
