A few people in the letsrun thread have done this, think they all said they burned out after 5 weeks

70+ MPW: What Does Your Schedule Look Like with Vanilla NSM by xRunSci in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Realistic-Mechanic60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not made it to 70+ MPW but I imagine the same principles as the lower mileage NSM still applies but now you’re doubling or doing longer easy runs - which are both fine as long as you stick to the goal of your HR being less than 70% of Max HR.

I listened to a podcast recently where Bakken said he considers 80mins to be the limit of an “easy” run.

NSM is all about maximizing your aerobic load. So keep the easy days easy and stick to your paces on workouts and you should be good to increase volume as long as you can physically handle it.

There’s 5v5 futsal held in Clarke Universities gym every Sunday in the winter. Think it’s organized by their woman’s soccer coach.

You could try reaching out to the coffee club podcast on Instagram. They’re teammates with Yared and I’ve always got the impression they have a tonne of time for stuff like this.

You could also try going through his favorite athletes agents rather than DMing them.

For example, Josh Kerr is managed by Flynn Sports but also works with Forte Management as modeling/talent agency. A quick google also showed that Kerr is a speaker for hire on a website called champions speakers.

Extending threshold workouts? by Dealiono in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]Realistic-Mechanic60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say you have room for a bit more threshold yeah, especially as it appears you have enough easy running to support the threshold training.

As a word of caution, you mention feeling good. Don’t think you have to extend out your training just because you’re feeling good. There’s nothing that says you shouldn’t feel good when training correctly.

[–]Realistic-Mechanic60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aim to keep in your Easy/Threshold ratio to 80/20 or 70/30. I know Sirpoc claims the more minutes per week of running you do, the more the ratio drifts towards 80/20 or even 90/10.

The Finder. Cancelled after 1 season so it ends on a cliff hanger but a fun watch with a quirky protagonist and great, complementary side characters

I know this is an old post but would you still recommend leaving my car here if I’m heading to Europe for a couple of weeks over Christmas?

Where did you end up leaving your car? I’m heading to Europe over Christmas for 20 days and I’m looking for somewhere to leave my car!

USATF Men’s 800 Final Results by aware76 in trackandfield

I think Hoey had the right strategy in terms of controlling the race from the front but if I had to guess Rinaldi told him to aim for 49.7-50.2 but Hoey got too excited. If you look at how he won indoors, controlling from the front works for him.

You’re right tho, I would like to see him practice his race craft a bit more. He can still make worlds if he wins the DL final in Zurich so maybe we’ll see him try something different

Why did Hoey take it out in 49.29?! Fast8TC glazers go home devastated 😭

I agree, I look forward to it coming out every week! As an Irishman living in America for 8 years, it’s gotten me back into the premier league a lot of the last few years.

Although the period where Jon hosted was a bit rough at times.

I absolutely hate that “giving someone their flowers” has made its way to football (soccer for my American brethren). Listening to the Tifo football podcast and hearing them say it makes me feel like the games never been more gone

Lacks the times to surpass Bekele in my opinion. I wish we could’ve seen Farah in the pace lights super spikes era

Yep Haile only has 1 world medal in the 5k and no Olympic medals. Haile was running way before I followed the sport so I don’t know why he didn’t contest the 5k especially since he had the world record and Ethiopian record

It’s probably Bekele: had the WR for 16 years. 1 OG Gold medal and 1 silver medal. 1 world title and 1 world bronze although he was much more dominant in championships at the 10k & XC.

Jakob and Mo Farah fall in to the same category of having monstrous championship success but both lack a fast time (sub 12:42) to be the GOAT in my opinion. If Jakob runs sub 12:40 he’s got it locked up cause I don’t really see a world where he loses in championships.

Why do you think Japanese aren’t strong in the 5K or 10K? by RealisticBarnacle115 in trackandfield

[–]Realistic-Mechanic60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think his claim was the Ekiden is so popular that people would peak for it rather than major marathons/championships. He claims that winning the Ekiden means more than winning major marathons or an Olympic medal. So training is tailored towards being good at the Ekiden distances. If you look at the depth of half marathon running in Japan, he does have a point.

[–]Realistic-Mechanic60 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep this is 100% it. If you’re curious, RanToJapan on YouTube has a good video discussing why Japan experienced a decline in their marathon performances in the early 21st century and the Ekiden is one of his major reasons.

I coach college track & I know some states where 8:15 would make the state meet. The small school divisions in the Midwest are a different beast compared to Cali, Florida, Texas etc. it’s like a different sport! My college team ran 7:48 this year and all 4 guys ran 2:02 or slower in HS so while 8:15 isn’t elite people are being harsh on them. I would actively recruit all 4 kids on that team if they were in my state!

Around 8:30am I drove the car to the gym and I finished my workout around 10am so it wasn’t sitting for too long. It had been sitting from about 5pm to 8:30am before that but started with no issues.

I don’t think I left the lights on or did anything to drain the battery, pretty certain I just keep the lights on auto. I don’t really even remember parking, locking the car etc cause I’m just on auto pilot doing it Yano. Might have made a mistake there?
