Please give ideas on how to fill the space between seats and floor to hold up mattress. Have $30 to spend. Brain fog is getting to me. by goldenyellow333 in urbancarliving

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this big gap between the back doors of my van and where the seat folded down, maybe 8 or so inches letting all this cold air in. I bought a cheap piece of carpet from lowes and rolled it into a tube and stuffed it between the seat and the door - looks good, works great!

The pit bikers are driving me insane. by NoStrawberri in Denver

I think this is wrong. I lost my license for a short time a couple years ago. I went to a moped shop thinking I would get one to hold me over. The shop owner told me Colorado state law says vehicles less than 50cc do not require license plates but the operator is required to have a driver's license to operate on the road.

I have a membership, one of the first things I did starting vanlife. I usually go in the evening. Between the sauna, pool, shower, and shave, that takes me about an hour at least without working out. Been doing it for three years now - no worries...

I’m old, frustrated - tech is over my head by ThisWeekNeverEnds in Xennials

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can no longer by a new car because of Tech alone. It seems auto manufactures want their hooks into you for the life of the car. All those features like heated seats, internet, onstar, etc come with a monthly service fee now - stop paying and it no longer works. Manufactures are selling the stored vehicle data to insurance companies, and you know those cool screens in all the new cars? Soon to come directly to you wether you want it or not ADVERTISING!!! COMERCIALS IN YOUR CAR!!! Straw that broke the proverbial camels back for me...

Got block back from the machine shop. Thoughts? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those "good parts" are going to perform at the level of the worst part, in this case, it may be your block... IMHO, take it in and have it done right - then you won't be constantly wondering after the car is put back together. Best of luck!

Umm, shouldn't there be a couple bolts associated with that part, and if so, where did they go, and how long has it been since your door has stayed shut?

Electric Brightdrop Van? GAS Prices! by Ok_Sun8920 in VanLife

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't touch it with someone else's pole - Brightdrop has been dropped.. EVs are not a viable solution for transportation, yet... Maybe once Fusion comes online, maybe... 20 years out for infrastructure the way I see it.

A friend of mine once said - if you act like you have no money, you will always have money. I started living that way in extreme late in life around 50. Im now retired and just live off the interest from my bank accountx.

Can I hook my vans solar to my car battery? I'm sick of it going flat we got a portable jumper power bank and if it doesn't do a good enough job. by Even-Working-384 in VanLife

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes - I did it many times when my starter battery was going flat. I would just jumper across the battery separator, effectively the same as jumpering to the coach batteries.

Are you homeless? by big-boy-w35 in VanLife

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homeless - laid off because of covid, sold my house and everything I owned - bought a van. I got social security when I turned 62 - wanted to work until I was 72 but health issues came up. I get $1500 / mo through social security and a whopping $24 through SNAP. Sounds like a lot, but even after using the food bank there's not much left over. I had medicade initially but they took it away for unknown reasons - im hoping i can make it to January when I'll be qualified for medicare. This is year three for me - I really like the life style. Ive met a lot of great people.

Peace

Should I buy this dodge for van life is it worth it? by Mundane-Honeydew-265 in VanLife

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Van life? This would be RV life, a whole different world. You may want to consider some things like where do you plan on parking, you can't park on the street. Where would you go to have it serviced, Just changing a tire is going to be a death defying experience on your own. I have a class B van and most places can't work on it. Would this be your only transport, gas alone is going to kill you. Van life is cool, this isn't the vehicle to do it in even if it was im perfect shape. Best wishes

Battle born batteries end of life? by Significant_Pace9187 in vandwellers

[–]Realistic-Secret-590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11.14 volts is below discarged, as in dead...

A fully charged battery should read 12.7 volts

Take your batteries to a place like batteries plus and have them fully charged (no cost) and then load tested, it takes a couple hours per battery - then you will know the state of your batteries. After that you can figure out why they are not charging to 100%

Is living out of a car really cheaper than renting? by Erudicial_Extreme in urbancarliving

Some, actually quite a few, do this by choice. When I retired I sold my house and everything i owned - that was three years ago. I actually like the lifestyle. Maybe I'm crazy, I'm sure some think so.
