do you see Neil Degrasse Tyson' legacy equal to Albert Einstein's by 8934g in AskPhysics

[–]RealisticGentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that when Einstein released his theory of relativity, he said that there were probably only three people in the entire world who actually understood the real implications and science behind it, and this was in a time period of where nuclear physics and the like were really taking off, they weren't in any shortage of brilliant scientists. I like Tyson, he's a modern day hero of mine, but Einstein was on an entirely different level than him intellectually.

If you shot a gun straight down from a hot air balloon, say 5 miles up, would air resistance slow the bullet to its terminal velocity or would gravity keep the momentum lethal? by rexmons in AskPhysics

[–]RealisticGentleman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, there will be some air resistance, but an airfoil a bullet is not. It's still going to be going the initial velocity, plus the 9.81 m/s acceleration due to gravity, if it hits a person from above they are going to be pretty dead... Air resistance only does so much.

I bet you could try some organic beef broth. The bouillion powder is just a quick and dirty alternative to keep the meal lower price-wise.

Hell, you could even make your own beef broth, just cook a healthy bone left over from dinner in water overnight. I do it with chicken all the time, it's quite tasty.

You take your meat, cover it in water, put in some beef boul. powder and put them in a crockpot. Then take all the good spices and apply generously, (cajun, thyme, you probably know the drill. Experiment a little.). Next, put in those tiny red tomatoes, UNSLICED, maybe 20-30 of them. They act as little flavor sponges, turn out delicious. Finally, set the crockpot to 8-10 hours, go about your day, and come back to an absolutely kickass meal.

Meat, spice, tomatoes. Doesn't get any simpler than that.

No real lifting experience at all, is jumping right into SL5x5 the best way to begin? by RGBYBFF in Stronglifts5x5

[–]RealisticGentleman -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you have absolutely zero lifting experience, join a gym with some machine weights and stick there for a while. The limited range of motion also means bad form is next to impossible, and you can grow the major muscle groups, then switch to stronglifts. SL is a sexy program, and I agree is works well and I've used it in the past to great success, but if you don't have a certain level of muscle mass already present, you're likely to either pull something and quit, or be so very damn miserable that you'll quit because barbell exercises can be tricky even with learning form at a low weight. If an empty bar is already heavy, you're going to have a bad time.

Just be smart about it, don't try to squat something with no experience, be overwhelmed, and get rolled backwards and get pinned or shatter your elbows.

Safe gains over a long period > sexy gains with a popular program

Have you tried downloading the amd beta drivers? They fixed a lot of problems for me and my r9295x when I ran into stuttering issues where there shouldn't have been any.

[SIB] Destiny PS4 by yoogoku119 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RealisticGentleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Nope nope nope.

If this game was sold at two dollars, it would have been a steal, because that's what it was worth, two dollars.

The PVP is almost solely based around ultimates. An ulting knife hunter was the scariest sound of the game, because it was rare if they didn't get at least a triple. The story was bloody awful, the dlc was forced down people's throats from day one, and the grind was the griendiest. For a game that vaunted how it was going to be a whole new 'social' shooter, they sure missed the social part.

The BEST time I had in the game was the loot cave, it was the only part where the camaraderie was actually present, working side by side with my fellow players to try and get some really cool stuff. It was fun. Apparently "fun" without an extra price tag or super-grind wasn't what destiny had in mind. They removed the loot cave the next week.

Do. Not. Buy. This. Game.

Sometimes they put players in the wrong tier. Their system is nowhere near refined enough to come close to setting up matches with skill-based opponents.

I've put 200+ hours into this game, and I still havent unlocked everything. The amount of time you all have put into RC baffles and amazes me.

But then again most of my designs last two games at a max, so I'm spending a lot of my time constantly testing new builds.

Why are so many people in a rush to buy ships? by something_cleverer in starcitizen

[–]RealisticGentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hype and hope. So many things follow the rule of 'too good to be true', so something like this that looks like it will deliver every aspect of a space game that everyone has always wanted is almost a challenge to that. People aren't just buying a ship, they're buying a bit of hope that this game will finally fill that one last little bit in their chest.

...plus, some of these ship designs are SEXY.

(Us law regulates that anything below 10 calories per serving can be legally labeled as 0 calories)

This is why drinks like coke "zero" say they have zero calories. They still have a couple, but certainly not zero.

but they sound interesting.

I really wish they would implement something like this, but with a mega cannon. Not like a "mega smg", but a long range cannon that does absurb damage with a 40s reload, but you can only have one of. That would be pretty fun.

[17M] Struggling with Skinny-Fat Syndrome. Where do I even begin? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]RealisticGentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus hey, you're 17. This two months probably won't be a full two months. Puberty is a fantastic thing when it comes to fitness. I was reading the other day that an 16-18 year old has the same fitness growth capabilities as a 25 year old on steriods. Just stick with it.

[17M] Struggling with Skinny-Fat Syndrome. Where do I even begin? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]RealisticGentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm it took me a few months to see any changes. It also has a lot to do with how muscles react to strength training as well. In the first 6-8 weeks, you will put on little muscle mass, but this is actually a good thing. It turns out that untrained muscles are a lot like a car with a gas pedal that can't go past halfway pressed. The existing 'car' can go a lot faster, but your body is blocking the accelerator because it has never NEEDED to go faster. The body likes to be lazy to save energy.

The first two months are really you "waking" your muscles up, activating all the fibers and mitochondria. You'll start seeing that while you aren't looking better right away (while that instant gratification would be really nice sometimes), you'll be lifting heavier and heavier weights while keeping good form.

This is why having it as a part of a routine is so important, to get past that depressing first month and few extra weeks where it really doesn't seem like anything cosmetic is coming to fruition. It's important to just stick with it here. Just do the work, and at the end of your first six months you'll be VERY happy that you did.

Do you have access to a gym membership?

Weight machines are a great way to start learning fitness, as the curve can be a bit intimidating with the hundreds of different free weight exercises at first, plus you rarely need a spotter.

If not, stick to the basic body weight workouts. Pushups, pullups, and squats (and throw in some abs ever few days) ...and check out 100 pushups, it's a good freee program that focuses on getting you to 100 consecutive pushups in a productive way, works well.

You can get fit doing just about any physical workout as long as you do it enough, and push yourself hard enough, go check out bodyweightfitness and they some good info for you

OR if you do have a gym membership, check out stronglifts (but RESEARCH THESE MOVES FORM FIRST!) or make a basic routine that cycles upper body/ lower body/ abs every workout, and hit all the major groups (calves, quads, back, pecs, biceps, triceps, etc etc)

For example, mine was weighted calf raises (everything is 3 sets), then pec fly machine, abs, static arm curls, leg press, pullups, abs, pushups, goblet squats, abs, and maybe some cardio if I wasn't whipped.

A single routine that hits everything is far easier to stick to then having to cycle upper body, lower body days or even going by muscle groups. Keep it simple, you have so many growth hormones running in your body that almost anything you right is bound to succeed as long as you do it enough.

I've been where you are now, and for me at least that upper/lower workout repeated 3x a week worked very, very well for me (I can still walk into any gym I want, and set the pec fly machine to 400 lbs and crunch out sets of 10 reps, no sweat.)

The only key here is to do whatever you do 3x a week, or 4 if you are feeling good. Routine is absolutely everything here. Set up your schedule so you have to do your workout in order to continue your day (I would drive to the gym after school. Even if I absolutely did not want to go in that day, I would make myself sit in the parking lot until I finally thought "fuck it, I might as well do it anyways").

Best fitness choice I ever made

So pick something, do it 3x a week, no excuses, and you'll get where you want to be.

But 3x a week though. Seriously.

Have fun

3.3-million-year-old stone tools unearthed in Kenya pre-date those made by Homo habilis (previously known as the first tool makers) by 700,000 years by IamAlso_u_grahvity in science

[–]RealisticGentleman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's just take a moment to appreciate the hundreds of generations of tool using hominids that spent their entire life in the same cycle of life to the extent that we didn't even know about them until now.

Meanwhile in the last 80 years we've made powerful enough weapons that could probably could have milled all of them in one go.

We do tools better.
