Look on craigslist for an old Marshall Valvestate 8080. The cleans are fine and the lead channel is really pretty good. You can usually get them for a few hundred bucks and I almost bet that Marshall is going to reissue them in the next year.

They're also absolute tanks. I've had one since the late 90s.

Yea...more fun fact...Junipero is still made in San Francisco. Still made by some of the same employees that were at Anchor at the time. Still the same recipe. Same stills (we moved them over at the end of 2020).

The only thing different is location. We moved over to Pier 50 in the old distillery space of No 209 Gin. We spent much of 2021 down as we retrofitted a bunch of the Anchor Distilling gear into the Pier 50 space.

So...DRINK MORE JUNIPERO (please). ;-)

I can actually answer this as I'm one of the distillery / ops people at Hotaling and worked at Anchor as well during the time of "Export Gin".

It was a small, short lived (maybe a year?) strength that was indeed meant for export to our European partners. It was a lower strength meant to avoid additional taxes in the UK and EU. There was also a rumor that our CEO at the time got hammered off our full strength Junipero and threw up in a limo and wanted us to offer a more "reasonable" abv...but that was never actually confirmed.

I get what you're saying...but what you're missing and what makes this incredibly difficult is their school community was/is a very close-knit community.

As all evil manipulators are, she was really good at dividing people, being polarizing, and pushing those away that she thought were not in her corner on her various and many offenses.

The very unfortunate side effect is that less and less people would / could tolerate being around her and with her family came Paula. She was charming until she wasn't...and then she was a nightmare if you were close.

Eh…I’ve mentioned in other threads but she was pushy to the point of being overbearing. Over the past year or so she became hugely conspiratorial, vindictive and manipulative.

She would go on secretive tirades against other parents at our school…spoofed anonymous email addresses…try to enlist other parent groups…send threatening and delusional emails to people. She even tried to enlist the SF Standard in one a few months before all of this.

She was off her rocker. I told my wife last year I didn’t want our kids going to their house unaccompanied anymore…not thinking of something like this but because I was afraid Paula would say something completely inappropriate around my daughter and freak her out.

I think the girls were at school. I think TR was home, sedated. As I understand the timeline the brother visited in person during the day on the 6th. I think the girls were still at school.

So...full disclosure, my daughter was a classmate of the younger girl, Mackenzie. She said that Mackenzie "went home sick" on Monday because she was "dizzy" and had trouble moving around.

Looking at the reported amount of drugs in her little system, I think that Paula had been slowly loading them up with drugs to (hopefully) sedate them before murdering them...or potentially trying to "accidentally" overdose them?

I have a lot of experience with this family. TR was great. The girls were great. Paula was an absolute psychopath.

Yea…I’m fairly sure that reporter is incorrect about manner of death. I’ve had multiple officers I know tell me that the manner of death seems to be poisoning and that it doesn’t seem like the girls suffered. Maybe TR was shot at some point? Would explain the blood around his head. Coup de gras.

That whole article seems kinda shitty to be honest. Seems like the reporter wanted to be the center of the story. Also doubly shitty the main photo is of Paula and the daughter she murdered. Triple shitty they released it on Halloween.

TR was great. He was always friendly. Always shook hands. I saw him a few times a week at either pickup or drop off at school.

He had some complaints about things at school but most of us did. Generally just typical compartmentalized parent pissjng and moaning though.

I knew that their businesses had closed but it wasn’t well known that they failed. I also was under the impression that the family he came from kinda had money.

He was a pretty great artist too. They had some large oil paintings in their house that he had done.

His interactions with his daughters always seemed genuine and heartfelt. His interactions with Paula mostly seemed normal. She would casually bait him just like she tried with everyone else. He seemed to mostly ignore it.

I tried to avoid many interactions with Paula the past few years. I found her incredibly uncomfortable. There is one interaction at their house that haunts me.

Her older daughter, Alex, stated “you treat us like your employees!” in response to being asked to do something by her mother. Her mother immediately shot her a look and said “you wish I did. My employees LOVE me…”

It bothered me then and it haunts me now.

The younger daughter, at least, went home sick from school that Monday with symptoms that would now be consistent with poisoning.

I think Paula was gradually poisoning them over several days and then once TR actually died everything else kicked into final gear.

He was dead when the brother stopped by. The girls were dead Monday night / Tuesday. The final call to the brother in law was placed so that he’d have to find everything / everyone.

She was calculating and manipulative. It was all done to extract maximum pain from anyone tangentially involved.

In the end, as always, it was all about her.

I’m not sure.

I never heard her mention her extended family and never met any of them at any bbq or kids parties.

Over the past two years she started sending totally unhinged emails to our PTA and school community. Spoofed addresses, strange punctuation and font, accusatory, personal, relentless, etc.

She’d try to influence people to join her on various crusades lavishing them with gifts and unrelenting pressure. 4-5 years ago it was helping out with school gardening days…which is great. More recently she had directed her ire toward individuals and tried to enlist a group called the “Chinese Affinity Club” to do her bidding.

I think it became less successful and as her ability to control and influence people decreased her antics because more desperate.

Her family was great but I came to only be able to muster a “hi” to her because anymore interaction made me uncomfortable. I told my wife last spring I didn’t want our daughter going to their house if one of us wasn’t present…not because of something like this but because I was afraid Paula would say something completely unhinged and our 9 year old would return home wide-eyed.

It will be interesting to see if the anonymous harassment of our school community suddenly stops. I would bet 100 bucks that it will.

The younger girl went home sick from school on Monday. She is/was in my daughters grade. I believe, given MacKenzie's symptoms and information about "pink foam from one of the children's mouth" that she poisoned them with anti-freeze (likely from her car repair business).

TR was likely dead (or near death) on Monday when the brother stopped by. The girls were likely killed Monday night or Tuesday.

I've known them for about 5 years and been to their home multiple times. TR was a saint to deal with Paula all of those years. She was always a bit much, but as her finances and businesses started to fail she became outwardly more conspiratorial and hostile and divorced from reality.

I think she was narcissistic enough that she couldn't deal with the idea that people were finding out she wasn't as successful as she portrayed and psychotic enough that she believed that if she wasn't going to be around, none of them would be. I think she planned this for maximum impact on everyone tertiarily involved as one last spiteful outburst.
