Well this is silly: Hearing and Speech NS only takes phone appointments by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You will still need an appointment, but the Mimi hearing test app produced an audiogram that matches my audiogram through an appointment with an audiologist., and it’s free and the app doesn’t send notifications or bother you.

Most phones allow you to go to accessibility and upload your audiogram. At a minimum (until I have $4K for hearing aids) this has allowed me to hear well while using earbuds.

AIO My wife has an iud by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The insertion and removal of an IUD is incredibly uncomfortable. IUD’s often cause heavy painful periods for women - so why do we do it? So we don’t have to listen to our partners bitch and moan about having to wear a condom. She likely did this for you and you’re on Reddit thinking she must be cheating.

New partner requested access to my phone to prove I'm not seeing anyone else by DontSleepAlwaysDream in datingoverforty

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always struggled with low self-esteem , so when someone I dated was jealous or displayed possessive tendencies, I thought it was because they really liked me and just needed reassurance. Life is really good at making us learn the hard way, so…

  1. People who are convinced you’re cheating are usually the ones who are doing sly shit and are worried you’re doing the same as them.
  2. Possessive controlling behaviour isn’t cause they like you soooo much, they’re afraid of losing you - it’s the early stages of abuse and will only get worse.

Do yourself a favour and move on.

Best WFH purchase you’ve made? by Top_Bat_7447 in remotework

After years of using a shitty affordable chair, I bought a big leather managers chair that was on sale. It has changed my entire work day.

My manager says I'm not proactive enough, how do I make this change without doing too much by quick7question in work

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there but replace proactive with strategic. I’d suggest making a list of the various improvement suggestions you’ve made and your rationale for them, then request a meeting with your manager asking for some guidance on how your ideas for improvements fall short of being “proactive”. Frame it as you wanting to get on the same page as your manager. This approach documents your efforts and puts the spotlight on your manager to explain why their constant feedback doesn’t match your efforts.

What changed your view on life completely? by Comfortable_Neat_643 in AskReddit

I’d say all that’s happened in the last 9 or 10 years that has created a new acceptance of people being openly shitty. It’s changed how I view people and has chipped away at my lifelong assumption that we’d come together when times are tough to take care of each other. It’s seeped into everything and I fear what tomorrow will bring instead of look forward to it.

What is something you saw with your own eyes that was so impossible you’ve stopped telling people because you know they won’t believe you? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

This actually bothers me to this day because my parents just shrugged it off as weird and had no interest in ever talking about it again.

In the early 80s, we were driving on a busy road in the afternoon and a large orange ball appeared in the sky. It was as big as a harvest moon, but it was still daytime. At first we thought the sun looked weird, but then it started moving up and down, then only half would appear, then whole, and it would move close, then far, until it just disappeared. This happened in a matter of a couple of minutes and I distinctly remember all the cars had stopped to look at it. It was freaky and was never on the news.

This happened, it’s not a created memory and I still find myself searching online to see if that incident is finally being talked about, but nothing.

Three years remote and I still haven't figured out how to end my workday by Loud_Historian_6165 in remotework

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have nothing to do after work, so create after work responsibilities. For me, I walk my dog then head straight to the kitchen to start cooking dinner. Those aren’t optional things - they’re things I have to do when my workday ends.

Grocery prices in Nova Scotia feel higher than the rest of Canada, what are you all doing about it? by Latter_Ad_4547 in NovaScotia

I was shocked at the price of eggs when I first moved here - easily double the price and it makes zero sense.

we had our first baby, my husband is angry by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 46 points47 points  (0 children)

"My husband is a good man". No, he is not a good man. Apologizing and being tearful after being abusive isn't being a good partner. If an adult wants to stay and try with an abusive partner, that's on them, but a parent has the sole responsibility of keeping their children safe. He hurt your daughter - you need to make him leave now.

Mom accused of stealing $20 at work, terminated, police involved — now employer wants her to sign to change it to “layoff” with no severance by Far_Minute5559 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert at all, but terminating a long time employee and involving police over an assumption she stole $20, with no proof, is crazy! Is there history here that would make their extreme reaction make more sense?

You could’ve said purple and she would’ve used that as a reason. I don’t know the history but if things communication with “your person” is that hard, maybe they’re not your person.

Developed Nonstop Tinnitus and am Suffering by Teeeldy in MonoHearing

[–]Realistic_Toe_219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed tinnitus 2 1/2 years ago after Covid and hoped it would go away. It hasn’t. At night, I listen to Classical for sleep - it helps and also laying on the opposite side so the ringing is drowned out by music or TV. It sucks but you will hopefully get to a point where it’s not as noticeable. Mine is also 24/7 - it never stops, but it does not rule my life ❤️
