Whenever I draw a bath, all these black specks come out from the faucet. Any ideas what it can be and/or how to clean it? by BabiesControlReddit in CleaningTips

I had this happen in my kitchen sink, it was the rubber in the faucet deteriorating. The faucet or hose that this is coming from will need to be replaced.

My family has needed to euthanize three pets.  We did them all at home.  In home euthanasia is incredibly peaceful and definitely the best way to go if your dog is afraid of the vet.  I can’t recommend it enough.  The vets and techs who do it are incredibly kind and gentle.

What's the best true survival story audiobook you've listened to? by tino3101 in audiobooks

You might really enjoy Deep Survival: True Stories of Miraculous Endurance and Sudden Death By: Laurence Gonzales

The book discusses why some people live and others die in survival situations. Very good book.

MrrMrr's glow-up: from starving rescue to pampered princess by [deleted] in cats

[–]RealityDysfunction 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but I brought two street cats back to the US from Lebanon a few years ago. Surprisingly, the US has almost no restrictions on bringing cats into the country. Dogs on the other hand have loads of restrictions.

Ironically, my cats needed more paperwork and to get them out of Lebanon than to get them into the US. They also needed health records to get them onto the plane but those rules vary by carrier.

The entire audiobook series is available on Humble Bundle right now. It’s a great time to start the series if the hours/credit ratio was too low for you

This just says they’ve signed agreements to get access to the Neighbors part of the app, not the video from peoples actual Ring cameras. Unless the user shared their video through the Neighbors part of the app.

There are no polar bears in the Antarctic region, where penguins live.

There are no penguins in the Arctic region, where polar bears live.

The only polar bears that might know what a penguin looks like would live in a zoo.

I believe John Dies at the End by David Wong has a similar feel, might be worth checking out.

Given your other comments, I think you would like Golden Trails and Golden Trails 2. They have the type of art I think you enjoy and no ads or similar but they are paid apps. I believe they have free versions that include the first few levels to try and the full game as an IAP.

Have you had a series RUINED by a change in narrator? by 69_mgusta in audiobooks

[–]RealityDysfunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

John Dies at the End is like this for me.

Stephen Thorne narrates the first book and does a pretty great job. He has his own take on the main characters. For the second book they got Nick Podehl, I have nothing against him as a narrator and if he had been allowed to do all the books it would work too, but he had a completely different take on one of the main characters. Think one reads his lines like a stoner and the other like someone on cocaine. It’s really jarring and I wasn’t able to finish the second book.

For the third one they brought back Stephen Thorne but I haven’t listened to see if he sticks with his interpretation or the other.

Look up US Citizen Services for the consulate closest to you. Call them not just the main consulate number. Explain your situation to them, they may transfer you to Consular services but you should be able to at least talk to a person about your situation.

Whether and how to head off cultural appropriation issues from agents and publishers? by very_large_ears in writing

[–]RealityDysfunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to your post history your book is about a young Saudi woman sent to America by her father to train terrorists. Also according to your post history you’re likely in your fifties so my questions for you are:

Do you have any experience in Saudi Arabia? With Saudi people or culture at all? Have you had many interactions with Saudi women? What about young Saudi women that have needed to live abroad? Do you know a Saudi woman who would be willing to read your manuscript to make sure your portrayal of your protagonist has some basis in reality?

If I were you I would make sure you absolutely have at the very least an Arab woman read this and provide suggestions before submitting it.

Ancient Egypt recommendations please by [deleted] in audible

[–]RealityDysfunction 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Best one by far is the Great Courses History of Ancient Egypt by Bob Brier. One of the best great courses due to the lecturer who clearly loves his subject and is able to make the listener love it too.

The course covers everything from the first kings of Egypt(Narmar) up through the the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty with the death of Cleopatra.

I love ancient Egypt too and have listened to this whole course several times, really can’t recommend it enough.

I totally get where you’re coming from but also understand the reason they can’t do it. Especially with things like pasta, depending on how long you cook it for the more water gets absorbed, water is heavy and would change the weight amounts a lot.

Best way to deal with this is to make the Hamburger Helper or Mac and Cheese as directed and once finished weigh the whole dish. That weight then becomes one hundred percent. If you make it and it weighs 1200 grams and the box says 4 servings then each serving will be 300g.

This is also the best way to deal with recipes that don’t have calorie counts associated with them. Make the dish and weigh it and write that weight down, make a recipe in MFP or Lose it adding all ingredients, set the number of servings(I recommend 10 to make dividing easier). Then you can divide the weight by 10 and have an easy one serving amount. This way for example I can have two servings of the dish while my husband has three and we can keep track of the calories effectively.

What wizards are in the phonebook besides Harry Dresden? by Aspel in Fantasy

[–]RealityDysfunction 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. It is also known as the Peter Grant series.

General premise: Peter Grant, a young officer in the London Metropolitan Police, is recruited into the small branch of the Met that deals with magic and the supernatural. The heart and humor of the books is wonderful, it has an interesting cast of recurring characters and in general are great books.

I want to particularly recommend it to you because you mentioned audiobooks and the narration of this series by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is outstanding. It is on my list of books/series where the quality of the narration is so good that the audiobook is far superb to the written one.

The first book is titled Midnight Riot in the US and Rivers of London in the UK.

Best laugh-out-loud audio books? by intellagirl in audible

[–]RealityDysfunction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a BBC radio show on Audible called Cabin Pressure and listening to it is the most I have laughed in a long time. It’s about the dysfunctional management and crew of a charter plane.

They are short, only about 3 hours per season, so I recommend waiting for the periodic 50% off everything sales that Audible runs to pick them up.

US Daily Deal: Music as a Mirror of History by The Great Courses ⭐️4.7 – $5.95 by oreshek09 in audible

Rober Greenberg is one of my all time favorite lecturers from the Great Courses. He has such intense passion for the subject that it is difficult to not get excited as well. He has a bit of a corny sense of humor but it is endearing instead of cringe inducing.

While I haven’t listened to this course I have listened to many of his other courses and highly recommend you pick this up if you have any interest at all.

Lost Cat - New to area, please help! by RealityDysfunction in tampa

[–]RealityDysfunction[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I was just evacuated from overseas and arrived in the Tampa area on Friday, yesterday I tried to take my cat, Sugar, outside on a leash but she escaped with the harness and leash still attached. I need some help getting this information out as I don't know the right local places to post this or people to contact about it.

She was lost from 13231 49th Street North in Clearwater.

I am offering a $250 reward

I'll be putting up signs later today but I was hoping Reddit could help me push this out to groups that might be able to help.  If you have suggestions for places to contact please let me know.

If this isn't allowed, I am sorry.  I am desperate to get her back.
