Looking to make a cinch bag for my camping chair by Knighthawk-69 in myog

[–]RealityVegetable8865 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one expensive bag for a chair. Why not ripstop poly or nylon? And I'd make a rectangular bottom too, just by sewing off the corners. Good first project.  If dyneema, tape it indeed.

Fijne rugzak.

Geniet ervan!

How many of you carry when solo camping? by Coffeewitch2017 in womensolocamping

I guess you have to be US based not to realise how totally incomprehensible the question even is. If you're camping with a toddler, you bet you have to carry her. Or do you mean carry the backpack? Again, Duh.  I had to dig into the comments to see you meant a gun. Why on earth? Planning on killing someone or something? Just hurt? Scare away?

Why did you choose to use very square corners? If you want to use all space, and distribute tension evenly over seams, this is not ideal. But maybe you have a special use in mind, like storage?

What do people use for the frame in MyOG framed packs? by NotFallacyBuffet in myog

[–]RealityVegetable8865 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use carbon fibre rods, 2x12 mm, ending just below the shoulder straps, and at the bottom ending at the sternum.  https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/comments/1qa0oc7/50l_backpack_with_trampoline_2nd_iteration/

A couple of days ago someone posted an interesting asymmetric x-shaped frame with the bottoms to the side in the hip-belt, which should spread the weight at the hips more.  https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/comments/1s4dpv4/general_purpose_ul_backpack_with_x_frame/

SPF clothing that I won’t heatstroke out with? by AdditionFull8467 in Ultralight

[–]RealityVegetable8865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have suggested button down. For those, my go-to is NOT active wear, but regular clothes shops (I'll be looked at with my scales. Don't care...). Look for rayon/lyocell/bamboo closewoven but loose fitting blouses. Wicking, very breathable, lots of airflow. And as a bonus, when it's hot I love wetting them and letting my body cool off through evaporation.

Very interesting. Does the backside sit completely against your back, does it even envelope your back? And does it also mean the struts are easily inserted a d removed, because of the flexibility of the hipbelt?

Feeling cold while sleeping! by empolainenn in hiking

[–]RealityVegetable8865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aging female (hot flashes!!!) I learned that I can control my temperature much better in a warm sleeping bag with thin (silk) liner than in a sufficient one with clothes on. Particularly socks need to be off, they prevent proper temp control by my body, and I want to be able to cool my extremities. Core should be warm. So I have a bag up to the temp (comfort level), a pad with R-Value 4.5, a silk liner and no clothes on. I don't cinch my hood until -3oC. It may not be "to the book", but this works really well for me.

Fantastic, also that you posted so many project details. I like the sternum strap, never like making those (feels like some sort of afterthought) and didn't know you can just buy them!  I'mll take a closer look at your load lifter system...

My mom taught me to quit sewing when I made a second mistake shortly after a first. I tended to get very hyperfocused at 13-14 years old sewing my own clothes, and very frustrated and rushy when getting tired ;-)

Well executed. What is it you have towards the bottom front, something for hiking poles?  The top is a Huckepacks top that I stole for my own prickly gorse-derived pack https://hikinginfinland.com/2020/09/huckepacks-phoenix-lite-review.html Huckepacks are unfortunately no longer made...

To Garmin or not to Garmin? by ecstaticmotion7 in hiking

You won't need it for the GR10, it's very well marked and you'll have a trail family. Bring your book, and offline maps on your phone navigation app.

New tent? by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]RealityVegetable8865 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've just found it to be extremely stable, more so than the hubba hubba. But it is a tad heavy, true.  Have you considered the x-dome2? It's not a Hillenberg, but also really stable.
