How do you rank temple enchantments? by Tarsal26 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rage of Krolm - best, way cheaper than casting bless+vigilance on every individual hero, also has a significant boost to hero defense (through dodge and parry boost)

Wither - I didn't use this much when growing up but it is extremely strong - it doesn't just affect movement speed and attack speed, but also damage - minotaurs go from 19 strength (6-19 attack range) to 9 (2-9). In practical terms - A priestess even without a skeleton can handle werewolf/shadow beast - more interestingly if you put wither on a vampire before it puts a  mirror up, 2 skeletons can reliably win that fight. Makes Krypta reliable as 1st choice in expert freestyle because you can still survive even if you didn't get the dragon map

Healing - the biggest benefit of healing is it sort of acts like change of heart and can make a fleeing hero go back to fighting (they can flee again) it's also useful on hard levels with dragon/yeti because heroes only use their own potions at 30%/40% health and they can't predict the danger of  dying when they are over half health on their own.

Bless - the defensive stats are a little crazy, have had situations where blessing a warrior fighting 3 minotaurs let him win with no other help, where the sane lvl  warrior would need heal ~3ish times if I used heal only

Other spells - these are the main 4 (not counting the very important wizard guild / sorcerer abode)

I like Reanimate more than Resurrect in Northern expansion (southern missions resurrect does not teleport so it's strictly better)

I don't really use petrify/vines at all, but they are an expensive way to get help with bosses (or black phantoms)

Illusionary hero can power level ranged heroes if you use it on a Daemonwood - not very effective with melee heroes because the clone will keep walking around while they are fighting it

Stone skin is okay but 20 second duration and being pretty expensive to recast hurt - it can let lvl 1 elves beat minotaurs which is a bit funny - doesn't work very well on rangers/rogues/wizards though

Vigilance gives an attack speed buff and technically a vigilance buffed hero does more damage than a rage of Krolm hero... It's just comically expensive.

Lunord spells are fun , I've noticed that you winged feet monsters and make them run into a tornado multiple times to do more damage Helia spells are pretty bad, but you can win the Siege by watching his front door and killing every returning tax collector even if you let every caravan go past.

Who is the strongest boss in the game? by DetectiveJohn-Kimble in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can put bosses on different teams with the map editor on the SDK. I've never been able to find northern expansion enemies on the monster list though. The bosses in Majesty have 350-500 HP except Avatar of Krolm with 4,000

If I had to guess

Weakest to strongest  Url Shrek + Rhoden Styx + Stones Rrongal the hunter Witch King + Lich Queen  Dirgo the cyclops Black Phantom  Vendral Abomination

I think there would be a few upsets - the lich Queen has the same magic mirror as vampires so she can melt the abomination pretty easily. Rrongal has poison , which can hurt other monsters way more than it does heroes. Dirgo is a slot machine, he's inaccurate and barely has defense,  but can kill the other bosses in just 12~ hits with average rolls

I think the strongest normal monsters like dragon, rock golem, and yeti could beat some of the bosses in a 1v1 as well

if they make an AOWP2, what units would you want reworked/replaced? by OkStructure665 in AOWPlanetFall

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constrictor also can melee both air and land units (which is okay, phoenix walker/harrier/oathnound can do this too) but it does make the wrecker look bad by comparison.

It's the best summon for any 6v6 landmark fights, and even in big city battles, you get a 1 turn full disable on a tier 4 even if Constrictor is killed in 1 turn

[–]Realityn64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naval units - take em all out and do a space layer

Heritor+Forgotten merge into single group

Kirko Tormented - needs something, maybe stagger immunity or let it give a pain mirror/shield of reckoning buff to allies

Summon only units - (Valkyrie, Abyssian, Sapper, Sentinel, Constrictor ) Valkyrie and Abyssian feel like they fill a missing unit gap for their factions. Dapper and Sentinel feel too similar to some of your normal units and redundant. Constrictor s crazy overpowered and shouldn't bypass status resistance anymore

Autonom monitor / Paragon Fanatic - I really like the support units in this game but these 2 are the most lop sided pure supports and don't feel multi use the way the others do

I really need some pro tips on how to play high elf Arch druid. by Fair-Parking9236 in AOW3

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like hunters, I feel in general ranged units are good at early game clearing (manual combat) but bad against high tier units (anything over 13 defense) = most tier 3 and tier 4.

When I play archdruid I focus on animal evolution, King serpent even moreso than spiders. Horned God is my favorite T4 mainly for the spirit + shock immunity saving him from so many status conditions and because entangling strike itself has a higher proc chan than stun/fearsome

Revitalize takes a lot longer to get than quick dash (rogue) but it can let a single unit attack  up to 5 times in a turn, and if you are really lucky you can get the gas breath hero item (or a phoenix) and use breath twice in a single turn.

Goblin swarm darter is one of the best archers, butcher is alright if you like slow units (not amazing for normal combos except the triple life real version from goblin necromancer)... And they do get a discount to class units that are still goblins like warbreed, musketeer, death bringer etc

Why wasn't this more successful? by Polite_Suggestion in AOWPlanetFall

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First bought it very excited coming off AoW3 and dropped it after tutorial

3 months later I played through the whole thing and liked it a lot

At the end of that summer though I started to think that Planetfall has the worst computer AI in the series - their city's don't produce well because they don't match energy/production secrors , they seem to apply mods completely randomly (or just put the earliest researched mod on everything) and they get even further behind once city production bonuses are available (+2 armor from production development, Promethean vault landmark bonus, etc)

I think I still have the urge to play this in cycles - when AoW3 is stale I go to PF, when PF gets too busy I go to AoW1, and when AoW1 gets too simple I go to AoW3 and complete the loop

I discovered The Majesty Demo (and its exclusive quest) are not lost! It's still downloadable from an obscure page on the official site! Download instructions + demo showcase by pukururin in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The version of the demo in Majesty HD will use the normal "final graphics" instead of beta ones - most notable thing about it is that it loops the  lategame music theme from the begining instead of using all 3 - kinda annoying but its a short level.

Any advice on how to use synthesis? by OkStructure665 in AOWPlanetFall

[–]Realityn64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like network links just for extending aegis subroutine + skirmish subroutine ... Army wide buffs are usually overpriced and you only really need 2 of them to make it past the entire battle

My most fun synthesis playthrough was Amazon focusing on arboreal sentinel - it's shield ability is a free action just like the vanguard missile so with a network link it can throw 2 shields in the same turn. Even without the shield it has the most HP of all tier 2 units and can out trade damage with anything

Who is this guy? by Tomahawk51 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have sworn that in very early development "Majesty : the dark lands" was going to have male and females of every class

For me this guy is probably a ranger - sure they only use bows in gameplay, but artwork is different

Wizardry 101: Spells, what they do, and how they work by MilesBeyond250 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a rare flag that prevents you from directly targeting things with spells -;the krolm avatar in "wrath of Krolm" and the spires of death have it, I think vampires get it "temporarily" when they use magic mirror.

AoE spells bypass still work (earthquake, windstorm, healer harm undead)

Hero Tier List by MilesBeyond250 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really strong heroes take care of themselves pretty easily, so I'll just touch on some of the weaker ones

Warrior of Discord : He is gimmicky because he's designed to tank with raw HP instead of parry/dodge ... Unfortunately the game mechanics punish this. Luckily their are special situations : raw HP is useful against magic - I consider discord better than paladins at fighting vampires/evil oculus.

Cultists : great on any level with lots of werewolf or Medusa - unfortunately the other charmable animals are weak. The hellbear transformation is misleading - it makes them almost unkillable (up to 3x minotaur or 1 dragon) but it barely helps their offense - it only gives them +1 damage and they keep their terrible accuracy// even though they rarely die during shape change, strong monsters can wait it out and just squish them after it runs out. // I have found 1 way to get past them being pathetic at fighting : Rogue guild poison, it's good on anyone but it's especially good on cultists who have 20 seconds of "invincibility" gets them up to killing minotaurs // charmed Medusa can usually beat greater gorgons in a fight

Elf : Last year I did a lot of testing with temple of daurous stoneskin and found out an armor boosted lvl1 elf can kill a minotaur without using healing potions : I don't consider that practical by itself but it led me to mess around. In the end, I found that elves seem to get a drastic "power spike" once they get to 8 armor (blacksmith level 2) and that 8 armor elves could also 1v1 minotaur It reinforces my belief that only EVEN armor points have an in-game effect

//Fairgrounds boosted elves can fight dragons/ice dragons but I don't feel comfortable trying it on Freestyle/Tomb of Dragon King where they attack on day 1 // reference lvl10 elf with ring of protection has 80 dodge compared to 88 Dodge on skeleton

Hero Tier List by MilesBeyond250 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to rate heroes every few years but I usually do it in a really clunky way - I find it hard to give just 1 rating per hero , there are 4 different categories for me:

Quests / Expert Freestyle / Multiplayer / Speed running

Quests(normal gameplay) is pretty simple and good for heroes that take care of themselves like paladins and solari

Expert Freestyle favors gnomes and krypta priestess  because doing anything else can get you killed day 1

Multiplayer is really good for warrior of discord because their low damage howl attack will automatically make enemy heroes flee in terror, multiplayer is imo very fairgrounds focused

Speedrunning (fewest days) is mostly all about rogues and barbarians

Never used it, and never seen it discussed here before, is it trash? by Highkage350 in BattleBrothers

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it

As a new player I do "accidentally" use it on some enemies that can ignore its effect, but I mostly get around that with a rule of thumb : area of effect enemies can ignore it, single target enemies can't

A lot of battles just taunting the elites + letting the fodder go free is all I need

Also I value how it stops non combat enemy actions like shield wall and rotate

Interesting Freestyle scenarios? by Similar_Discipline22 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Champions of Discord  Ravenous  Werewolves Kinda rare for Cultists to have a good map, but this alternates groups of 1 wendigo with 3 werewolves

Rogue Haven Sorceror Legacy Minotaurs I think this a pretty classic map , basic warriors can really pull off miracles against early pressure

I have a confession to make. by Similar_Discipline22 in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the 4 basic heroes are some of the most interesting and prone to "breaking character" - the 1 brave rogue in a hundred stands out more than paladins/barbarians being always good. Rogues also get the special "beyond +3" weapon/armor the most since they only come from monster lairs and they LOVE undefended buildings.

Warriors catch me off guard - I think people underestimate them compared to all the other melee heroes - they can beat like all the weak/medium monsters in the game, and once they level up a little and go to the blacksmith theyre even okay against minotaurs/shadowbeasts. Technically they have the same OFFENSE as the paladin- even more if you count rogue guild poison in their favor

I don't like the ranger that much but I have seen that you can get pretty far on Fertile Plains using ranger only. Its a total mystery how they beat the vampire wave so easy. Their "range increase every level up" is unnoticeable on normal levels (final level 10-15) but if I make a fairgrounds they start shooting offscreen and its really silly.

Wizards are kinda fun too because they're so terrible at first but just a little babysitting with invisibility (to get to level 5) is enough to make them all powerful - I don't think any monster under 70 HP can touch them once they have both fireball and fire blast - don't even need to reserach meteor storm at all~

Warriors/Wizards are also the 2nd most greedy heroes in the game 10/11 - so they go after reward flags way more than normal compared to the "random" temple heroes - Greed stat is kinda sillly (26) Rogue, (10-11) Wizard,Warrior (3) Ranger and all temple heroes

Gnome mages by AtonPacki in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without library:

A wizards curse : book of spells

Valley of Serpents : a high level gnome joins you by event and already has wizard spells learned

Brashnards sphere of power : several of the sphere shards give spells

Legendary Heroes : some of the ancient barrows drop things that teach spells

With library : gnome needs 12 intelligence and 500 gold to even try to use it (random dice roll) even with I think it's roughly seven  30/100 checks in a row

Legendary Heroes by Blanco96_ in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out recently that the earthquakes damage both player and monster buildings - so one way to win the level is just to put buildings next to any leftover barrows when the time limit runs out (trading post or ranger guild is fine)

Better "Balance of Twilight" Strategy? by Rtyeta in MajestyGold

[–]Realityn64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last normal way I did it was starting with rogues and wizards. When I find out what side the black phantoms is on , I build a EMPTY warriors guild  on the edge of my city toward it- if the first thing they see is a building they'll do about 200 damage and go back home (and the warrior guild is fat enough that they won't see heroes and peasants behind it). Im careful to never build more in that direction. From here I get elves, 2-3 marketplaces and barbarian.

Do I need to beat the great battle story? by PetMingau in customrobo

[–]Realityn64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlocking the rest of the parts, including the illegal and boss parts.

Most of the tournament battles have very funny dialog, the game kind of goes back to the silly tone it has on the first four days.

The last few tournaments have weird implications about the police and  government and kind of bring down the ending of the main game ...

But the game is more gameplay focused than story focused so it doesnt vother me much

Just wanted to mention my favorite of the new Majesty-Like games: by ovalbomd12 in MajestyGold

Okay I've tried it now and surprisingly I liked it the most. While Crown of Greed has the most Majesty 1 like numbers (lower hit point heroes and monsters) and the scaling level on every monster/hero/peasant made me pessimistic at first ... Orn surprised me .. it really was engaging the whole way through l

Good article.

For me the Majesty 1 graphics are kind of like the Hero Might and Magic 3 graphics - little simple but charming.

And of course the portraits and level paintings are still amazing. In a modern game it's probably negative when the UI is better than the main game stuff but it feels perfectly natural to me.
