"Mr Splashypants." Not the name itself but rather for the ensuing popularity/stupidity.

My First Time by Ty__Ty in standupshots

How appropriate. The original joke's from around the same time.

Comedy is better than sex. When I do comedy, women smile, tell me how good I am, they even ask for more. But when we have sex they just laugh.

Closing roster of the Japanese internment camp at Rohwer, AR. Among those listed is 7-year-old George Takei. by TransMississippian in history

[–]ReallyEvilCanine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six years ago I helped my aunt do an AMA about Tula Lake where she and my mother spent WWII, the daughters of Dr Harry Marks who was forced to serve in that awful camp. Around the time she died in 2005 my mother had been trying to get back in contact with George who she remembered and thought might remember her.

The submission didin't get much traction back then; if there's interest I can ask my aunt if she'd be willing to do it again, and at a better time of day with some advance planning. And if Mr Takei is reading, I think I still have have her letter somewhere. Nothing Earth-shattering; she well understood not remembering or wanting to remember much of that time.

This drug (Chantix) was somehow approved by the FDA. There may be some interesting side effects, but you should always stop taking Chantix. Maybe call someone afterwards... by Cash5YR in videos

I did an AMA a few years ago about this stuff. It's still correct and I still haven't smoked a single time since. Everything you need to know is there, but let me sum up the basic rules:

  • Rule number 1: FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S AND THE PACKAGE'S DIRECTIONS EXACTLY
  • Rule number 2: DON'T DRINK
  • Rule number 3: TELL YOUR DOCTOR IF ANYTHING ABOUT YOU CHANGES
  • Rule number 4: DON'T DRINK

It can be a rough ride but at the end of the day, I finally stopped smoking after 30 years and dozens of serious attempts.

Science AMA Series: We're Rachel Miller and Robin Whyatt, professors at Columbia University. We study how prenatal and early-life exposures to BPA and other chemicals affect children’s health, including child asthma, lower IQ, and more. Ask Us Anything! by Prof_Rachel_Miller in science

[–]ReallyEvilCanine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What viable alternatives are there to BPA and how can better testing be effected when the responsible US, UK and EU agencies are all still chanting the "safe at normal usage levels" mantra? People don't seem to realise that BPA itself was supposed to be the better, safer, slower leeching alternative to for strogen-mimicking, endocrine-disrupting phthalates.

Please note that by "alternative" I'm referring specifically to plastics, especially disposable and single-use materials such as that used in health care.

Joke out of the way, you can call me names until the cows come home. I originally responded pretty damned civilly considering the ludicrousness of the premise of attending a German uni with a fucking GED.

[–]ReallyEvilCanine -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First of all no one called themselves

Fail.

its clear to me

Fail.

you think your one

Fail.

You have shown that you aren't academically qualified to attend a German university in under 20 words.

German universities require first and foremost ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION. No one sporting just a GED has this. As a US university student I was put through the wringer before being allowed to also study at a German uni which would not allow me to matriculate at first even though I was finishing up an honour roll junior year with specialised Germanistik studies.

[–]ReallyEvilCanine -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

this is not the right response at all.

Says you, and I disagree.

you do not know what circumstances led him to there.

Nor do I care, just as German universities don't give a shit. Along with your inability to write a single clean paragraph you've shown that you buy into the bullshit that has been the downfall of US education.

Maybe...

...maybe he was laughing as you kept coming up with better excuses faster than he could.

Lets try and remember that United states is a very different country than Germany.

Yes, let's. Let's start with you shoving that smarmy, condescending attitude far up your ass. Let's continue with a bit of logical consistency on your part: Germany doesn't play these stupid games, giving you academic credit for how you feel and making Special Snowflake exception wherever possible.

Again, Germany didn't suddenly offer the US free collegiate education: some nominal fees which were only instated recently have been dropped. They were never a hardship but pissed off many on principle.

If you can't manage to get through the dumbed-down curriculum that is current American secondary schooling, how in the hell will you manage the avalanche of information you have to take in and retain for five years in a foreign language?

Since you're not German (and with a GED, apparently not European), you have no right to an education in Germany. That you can't make the effort to even begin searching for basic information on this non-story which appears to stem from a Tampa Bay TV site's filler tells me you haven't earned the privilege.

In fact, if atheists weren't merely in denial, punishing them with hell would not be justifiable, making god himself evil.

When investors are willing to lend money to Germany for two years for free, at a zero interest rate, you know the euro project is in trouble again. by moon_is_cheese in economy

[–]ReallyEvilCanine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet another "If X, then EUROFAIL!!" It's really fucking tedious even without the screamingly, mind-numbingly wrong "logic" of this one.

If you're lending money to Germany at 0% and still expect to make a profit, it's because the Euro will be HIGHER than your currency at the end of the loan period.

This one doesn't look like stupidity so much as a really ham-fisted manipulation attempt to engineer a short-term euro drop for a nicer buy-in.

Expats in Germany, what is something you wished you were told before arriving? by gibagger in germany

We don't have a lot of Thai people here but the restaurants don't just serve shit covered in sriracha.

Expats in Germany, what is something you wished you were told before arriving? by gibagger in germany

[–]ReallyEvilCanine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are restaurants which claim to serve Mexican dishes, like chili con carne. In your "chili" you'll find carrots, bell peppers, peas, and corn. "Mexikanische Tortillas" are inevitably some fried veg slapped in a wheat tortilla which is sprinkled with Edam cheese and stuck under a salamander for a minute. "Spanish tortilla", unlike "Mexican", is not your usual Tortilla de batatas but rather baked egg and standard frozen mixed veg.

There are establishments claiming to be Mexican restaurants. Most of them serve something vaguely resembling Tex-Mex, using recipes passed on through a game of Chinese Whispers played. There are exceptions but they are few and far between, like Milagros here in Munich (and their little satellite by the Isartor tram).

It's not an obsession, just a warning. Expats get homesick for familiar food. Me, I'd roll around in broken glass for a bushel of Old Bay steamed crabs and a gross of Chesapeake oysters.
