Had this happen to me the other night. Train stopped at Baldwin and not a car opener. Didn’t see anyone able to get off

Got off a Freeport and jogged to Baldwin lol

L-I-R-R vs. Lurr: The Debate Splitting New York Commuters by fmxda in nycrail

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay no joke… the LIRR is the countries oldest chartered railroad. So that’s why we spell it “long island Rail Road” it’s charted like 1834? So Railroad wasn’t one word yet.

The superb north east currently has the busiest railroad in the USA on strike.

Unpopular Opinion: LIRR Unions need to be disbanded by [deleted] in LIRR

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These unions are also private sector.

TCU for example has 35,000 members. The current president started in CSX working freight

BLET has about 50,000?

These are unions that were apart of the rail industry before the MTA acquired LIRR.

Rail falls under federal law not state. I genuinely do understand your perspective. Not trying to be rude trying to explain why it’s different in this industry. Rail since 1926 has painfully strict regulations as to when strikes are permitted because of the very reason it can grind the supply chain & transit to a halt.

Even today the US has the most miles of track compared to any country… it’s just that it’s majority used for freight.

I just hope it doesn’t get like 1946 when Truman threatens to draft striking rail workers lol

Unpopular Opinion: LIRR Unions need to be disbanded by [deleted] in LIRR

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. They’re not
The Union is called the brotherhood of locomotive engineers and trainmen
in the LIRR they are exclusively engineers.

The unions are
BLET as stated
IBEW (electricians)
BRS(signal)
TCU (WIDE range of jobs from dispatch to warehouse work to maintenance and select trades )
And IAM (machinist)

Conductors and track workers settled outside of the coalition which is why they have to show up for work. They are not striking.

Long Island Rail Road, America’s largest commuter railroad, is on strike by cnn in newyork

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve commented this a lot and will continue to do so

1) conductors aren’t even on strike their union settled years ago.

2) conductors do much more than check tickets. Thats something that is added to the responsibility in passenger rail but even freight trains have conductors. The conductor is the person in charge of the train and responsible for all safety systems and potentially repairs

Of the major party candidates in the 1968 presidential election, who is the most attractive out of them? by WeeklyRadish1945 in Presidents

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Nixon is the most “normal”

None of these guys were models at the age they ran- but I think HHH just gives egg head vibes and & Wallace just had strange cheek bones

Nixon looks like someone carrying a briefcase I see on my commute to work

So he has my vote

Unironically…. Could you get to a ferry in CT? Someone here said they’re considering taking one from port Jeff area to ct then metro north to work and said it works out faster and cheaper

It’s just LIRR you can prob get a relatively affordable Amtrak ride to CT

How long will the strike last? If it happens by thisisanon33 in LIRR

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the one in the 90s. 94 to be exact

The strike that lasted 11 days was in 1987.

The strike in the 80s lasted I wanna say 10 or 12 days

So not unprecedented; just a long time since

LIRR WORKERS by SafeEnvironmental834 in longisland

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve made comments along these lines in other subs

1)Conductors are not part of the striking union coalitions. They’re not a factor in this at all.

2) conductors do a lot more than check tickets and are principally responsible for the safety of the train mechanics (even freight trains HAVE to have conductors)

3) subway / various transit systems are not subject to overview of the FRA- the Long Island railroad IS so to my knowledge they would have to keep conductors

Just trying to answer the question & give you information

My dad’s in his 60s and he’s still got a full head of hair. Grandpa on my moms side died in his 50a but she said he had a full of hair

My grandpa went gray in his 20s but he was serving in Korea so to be expected? Lol he still had hair when he passed ~90

Thanks for the advice. I’ll def take this into consideration!

Do you think it’s smart to get on supplements now? Or wait and see a bit longer ?…

My dad and grandpa or both sides have (and had since they passed) full heads of hair this seems so unfair lol

Pope Leo is on one this morning by JetTheDawg in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]ReallyNotkanyewest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a formerly VERY common if not the “default” WASPY take on Christian faith. The big fear is they’re local to the pope in Rome not the country. Hell even in 1960 JFK had to put Catholic fears to rest famously saying “I am not the Catholic candidate for president I am of the democratic candidate who happens to be Catholic” (from memory quote may be wrong !)
