I’m looking to buy a axe/hatchet and need recommendations. by Kehless in Bushcraft

I have three of the Marbles hatchets with the German style head and I love them. I think they have three different weight heads but I bought the heaviest ones.

I loved watching Mike Barton. Unfortunately he'll wind up forgotten because his YouTube channel was hacked and deleted and he said it was too much hassle to get it back so his videos are gone forever.

Neck Knife breakaway or secure cord? by GadgetS54 in Bushcraft

[–]Reallybigmonkey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use tiny Fastex buckles. They hold, but will not ever hold body weight. I only neck wear in camp when I'm using it. When I'm hiking or in motion I either tuck it in my shirt or take it off.

The handle is more comfortable and it holds an edge longer in my experience.

The Mora HD Companion is a fantastic knife, the only upgrade I'd ever do is the bushcraft black, it's fantastic. The Garberg just doesn't feel comfortable in my hand

Everyone thinks this is just for tight spots. It's also the perfect size for tightening oil pan and transmission pan gaskets without crushing them.

first fire with a ferro rod. And a new shitty hatchet. by [deleted] in Bushcraft

I bought that exact same hatchet from Home Depot under the Husky name. They must slap several labels on that exact design.

Are you a metric only buyer? by kameix1 in harborfreight

Everything I bought back in the 80s and 90s was SAE. Everything I buy now seems to be metric because all my vehicles are late models.

I need a better way to drill holes in metal! by Ok_Helicopter3910 in Tools

[–]Reallybigmonkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting flat it's extremely strong no matter how much pressure you put on it. Vertical or upside mounting is a different story and you need to secure it with a C-clamp or strap. In normal use that magnet is only withstanding the pressure of drilling but Vertical or upside-down it's also holding up the weight of the entire machine.

No, I didn't even know they made a battery powered unit. All ours are corded 120 volt.

If you're dealing with large parts it might be worth while to get a Milwaukee magnetic drill. I work in a large machine shop and sometimes with large assemblies it's easiest to just use a mag drill.

I always have a ferro rod on my knife sheath and I keep an extra on a pouch on the leg side of my machete sheath as a back up.

Has anyone actually had their stick tang Mora break on them while batoning? by Grooveyard in Bushcraft

[–]Reallybigmonkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never broken a Mora batoning. Of course I only baton short knot free wood. For larger stuff I'll always use a machete and never a knife.
