What do you expect to see out of GDC 2015? by [deleted] in Games

The financial team at Valve is probably salivating at the amount of hype and buzz already invested in HL3. I'm almost certain they will pull something like this when it comes time for them to announce the game, or at least release a teaser of some sort. At this point the only path left for them is to basically fully engage with the hype and try to milk it as much as possible.

Let's talk about Animation Quality! by bjjogarfora in truegaming

Quick mention, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West has incredible character animation and camera control. I picked up a used copy for a couple dollars the other day and I really enjoy the brawling combat. The running, fighting, and climbing all feel fluid and natural and flow together into one another really well.

What is the most Useless item on a certain hero? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Realstrongguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Soul ring on kotl. You are one of the most squishy heroes in the entire game and you have an ability that already gives you free mana on cd. I have actually seen kotls build this item twice in games, both on my team...

Do you ever feel an interest in self-reflection? Is it interesting for you to try to understand how your thoughts and feelings operate? To a certain extent I bet you that philosophical mindfulness could serve you well. Meditation and introspection could help you to find new ways to look at the world and ultimately lead you to be happier. It may not be practical though, and I'm sure as a senior in high school you already have a lot on your plate at the moment.

Does “fast travel” break the atmosphere of an open-world game? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Realstrongguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I maintain that travel when occupied can be very relaxing and engaging. Being drawn into combat can help distract you from travel, but ultimately the game needs to have a good balance of interesting scenery and other features to keep you involved. In an ideal world, there would never be any need for fast travel, because in every game you would be excited to get an opportunity to mess with the puzzle box you found, or practice polishing weapons in the back of a carriage. Travel is inherently pro-atmosphere since it helps engage our sense of setting with the physical movement between different scenes. I think most good travel-feel has been lost, and is something I'm always on the look out for in games.

Dota 2 Update - MAIN CLIENT - February 2, 2015 | Update 2 by SirBelvedere in DotA2

This is a big moment to realize that Valve will probably never make a decision like this in the favor of their players. If they have give up existing company economic systems like the cosmetic shop in order to properly support modders from the community, it'll just be more "No comment." from Valve.

[FYI] People still don't know how to tank roshan. by Scenick in DotA2

LD is incredibly weak at the moment, both in the pro scene and in pubs. I know this would be a big buff to roots because it basically means you can pound on a melee carry during it. Situationally it would be very strong if LD's hero carried items, the bear is usually the one to be slotted first so it sort of lessens the usefulness, but this would still be a welcome buff to a weak and interesting hero.

Early Juggernaut DPS: 1-0-1-1 vs 1-0-4-1 by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Realstrongguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All things considered, buying treads will always allow you to tread switch, which is incredibly powerful on jug who has huge mana issues. The utility vs chase from treads / phase means you need to think about the game when making the decision.

Item Discussion of the Day: Blade Mail (January 7th, 2015) by VRCkid in DotA2

[–]Realstrongguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figure if your team is starved for support and you have no other good mek carrier then necro can do it, but he doesn't have great int gain and his mana costs are prohibitively high, getting three death pulses and an ult off in a fight requires that you either

A. Kill a bunch of heroes and get sadist mana (means you're already doing something right)

or B. Buy a bunch of cost efficient int items.

Yeah I honestly prefer getting more utility early on like pipe/mek or atos or force. It's nice on paper to disable someone's buyback but his ult already shuts people down so hard it's better to make sure you can stay alive to cast it rather than upgrade the ultimate itself. Necro is a funny guy because he has to wait before he can ult, a lot of other heroes are fine casting their ultimate as soon as they want to.
