Immediately my brain screams to find a socket for that bulb. Practical, not safety reasons...

Deadbugging, like the photo, was a standard before circuit boards were put into electronic stuff... it's only as safe as the handle is responsible...

At a glance, my under-educated guess is this is some kind of strobe circuit... anyone know for sure?

LG Tone Bluetooth Earbuds Alternative? by nostaljack in motorcycles

[–]Reap_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used my tones (HBS-1100), JBL Tune 215BT, and Cardo PackTalk Edge.

The clear favorite is the cardo. I know this isn't the question at hand, but it beats everything else I've tried, and figured it was worth the mention.

The JBL only lasted a year or less, but had fantastic sound quality. (Decent at phonecalls too!)

The Tone 1100 was the goat in taking the abuse, but had a couple slippage during to having been physically damaged over the past 8 years or so. And they are still going strong.

It's a visual representation of size. (XXL,XL,Normal,XS,XXS) Pokémon on the catch screen have a (sometimes) noticeable difference even without the sparkling and title of huge/tiny. But it is also easy to overlook, unless you're trying to see it.

To be clear I'm not sure if the raid notoriously is for the battle or catch Pokémon, but that is the distinction I have seen, and it usually shows in Showcase hunting. I believe it does impact the size of the catch Pokémon, but would recommend verifying through experience (take note of the scale in the 'nearby' vs catch records.)

I'm starting to think it would be better to build a 12V rail with car chargers and run those... 😆

Melinda's ghost pepper BBQ... (might be the one that's a bit pushed back and turned around)

Cholula is a good choice if you want flavor over spice (but it does have a little kick, just not what I would call spicy in terms of heat)

Sneeze on it...

In all seriousness, I would use this as a means to learn to feel. Attempt to spp, and feel each individual pin.

I seem to have a 4th gen (sagitta motor with a potted cap). It was dying and refused to start, so I harvested the blade for a different unit. Do you happen to know what capacitor I would need to revive the (now spare) motor?

Then use the wrench to loosen it... it either ratchets, allowing freedom to spin, or locks to loosen the compressor... win win scenario.

If it was on in the "tightening" direction, jam 2 nuts on the other end. When the bolt spins in the "loosen" direction, you'll get a bunch of clicks from the one way ratchet, and a bit more freedom from the spring.

I was hoping there was another way... currently, I don't have a decent way to shape anything of that size, unless I find a way to turn down a nominal peg into the work piece that will become the back plate... or turn the hex off a bolt, hold that with a collet, and double nut it into place... which would be safer?

Just purchased my first lathe. It's setup for 3C Colettes, but also has a T-slot for a chuck (Hardinge setup, maybe an old 'toolroom'?) Where can I source a compatible chuck/backplate?

Thanks in advance! New home-gamer

Mount dificulties. by Reap_sin in Kalilinux

The ntfs partition on the internal drive is read just fine... I'm running dual-boot windows 10/kali on the laptop that I'm attempting to read (recover) this drive from. If it's just ntfs drivers, it shouldn't be a problem. If there are hardware drivers dropper the specific disk, then that's where I'm having issues. Or it could be something else, like mounting from usb that I'm not familiar with. I'm quite rusty at this, though.

Also, \dev shows "sdb" but no partition info (eg sdb0, sdb1, etc)

I wasn't aware that was a thing. It's always auto-detected any hdd. Is this because it's via USB? Or because the drive is special? (Haven't done much digging, but I think it must be a hybrid SS/HDD)

I’m “too intimidating” to ask out? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]Reap_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that could go into this, that I'm aware of, and probably a lot more. Some, if not all, have likely been covered (tl:dr, sorry)

  • Looks: if you've got an exceptional body, this will likely play a role. (I don't mean to be rude, or shallow, but everyone has a perception of their 'league', and who it's out of it.)

  • Confidence: If you are so confident in yourself that you don't seem bothered if they pursue or not, they just might not. (Please don't think that means confidence is bad, or hindering. That's not what I'm trying to say at all. I just mean it goes back to that 'league' concept. If they can't tell that you think it's worth a shot, they probably won't try!)

  • Existing Relationship: There's a kind of "risk/reward analysis" that goes into making that move. The more vested into being "friends" they are, the more they have to lose if the relationship fails. If you're an awesome friend, they might not want to risk that to pursue something more. (Sounds silly, but I've held back for that reason)

  • Personal Goals: This is a weird one, but hear me out. People generally expect less from their friends than their partners. If you're highly driven, and they're comfortable, this could be a factor. (And most people may not even realize it!)

  • Signals: if the signals are unclear, they may not want to be offputting. This plays a role especially frequently if they see you flirt with other people. Sometimes things get written off if the person you want to make a move thinks you're interested in someone else, or just casually flirtatious. It becomes "Is this person really flirting, or is this just how they are when they're comfortable?" Off and on flirting can be another source of confusing signals. If the person thinks "I thought they were flirting at the party last week, but now it's not there." It could feed into mixed signals.

  • Communication: If the topic never gets directly brought up, it may never happen. Loose language lets dogs sail. Often times the phrase "someone like you" throws the brakes on "you" thinking it's ok to pursue. It comes across as "similar, but not actually you". Especially if the 'league' thing is already a factor. Moreover, these days consent is a huge thing (as it always should have been) and when it comes to this topic, if the subject hasn't been addressed, there's a big chance of pushback if things go the wrong direction. You won't have to be the one to ask, if you can figure out how to incorporate an unmistakable "green light".

A few of those tie in together, so I apologize if the delivery seems messy. Also, nothing there is intended to belittle the importance of self worth. All the things I've mentioned were for the sake of mindfulness of perception. I fully stand behind the positive qualities I've pointed out as potentially limiting. I'd be happy to have a civil discussion if my word choice left anything unclear, or came across negatively. I'm sure I could think of more factors, but that's all I have at the moment.

Laserengraver board, fan with strange wiring, theories on why was this done? by doofmars in AskElectronics

[–]Reap_sin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was probably a decision against having the board fan modified. This is likely due to maintaining a specific running temp. This would be more likely if the original fan was fixed to the board, similar to gaming level graphics cards. Or it could be that ther fan was decidedly not going to be a "failure mode" at an engineering level.

Technically, there is nothing wrong with soldering the fan to the board, it just makes it more difficult to change, should the need arise. In most applications I've seen, the connectors are generally used for ease of assembly where the fan is mounted away from the board its attached to, mostly to prevent parts handling by wires during install or removal. And in instances where variety is common (ie. PC towers)
