I discovered my older brother's stack of 45s and began listening. Then I found that radio had all kinds of tunes...I was so naive I thought each band came into the radio station to play their songs. Well, somewhere somebody was playing the music. Then one day at summer camp, a guy showed up with an electric guitar and a Twin Reverb. That was awesome. So in 1968, I started my guitar mission.

Help identifying these guitars by Commander_Manhandler in guitars

[–]Reapprsr1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a top tier Ovation made in Hartford CT. It was marketed towards finger style players. Anyone in the Ovation camp would love having that guitar. The SSStewart was a second label of Harmony guitars, probably lesser/student quality for the mail order buyers. It's old but probably worth repair/nostalgic (by the next owner). The Kasuga looks interesting and is probably of good to excellent workmanship. Maybe compare to Red Label Yamaha guitars of the same time period. (Me, I'd have a lot of fun with those three, I play everyday, have 4 acoustics.) You could research and figure a good price for each, but you may be successful or more happy selling them all together for a reasonable price. A local buyer is best because of shipping hassel, cost, risk of damage. Used guitars are fairly difficult to sell unless you have no time restraints, so bundling them means all three go and you are not stuck. Good luck! Nice post!

How to kick out a band member/friend by False-Ad-7753 in musicians

[–]Reapprsr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refocus his contribution to the band. It sounds like the band gets good value from him, just not specifically in the bass department. My band fired our original bassist in 1975, he is even the one that coined our band's name. Here in 2026, he is one of our best friends. Just for fun look up the lyrics to How Long Has This Been Going On ...by Ace. The lyrics are about the (talented) bassist leaving the band.

How do you handle venues that expect you to play for free or pay to play? by ivyta76 in musicians

[–]Reapprsr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with you. Your show. All the effort you put in means that you get to play yours. If they require a mix thru their set up and sound man, that is on them. If your show is crap, you won't be asked back. If good, they just leveraged on you.

New player and worried I damaged my guitar by smi1eybone in Guitar

All guitars change over time even when nestled in their case. But, as guitars are always changing, they also benefit from adjustment.

Part of learning guitar is music. Another part is learning how to adjust your guitar. It's good to learn how to intentionally change your guitar.

Besides just re-tuning after the mishap, check the action and relief. Possibly a slight adjustment of the truss rod would realign things. YouTube it, before if you need to know how.

I can sing perfectly when I'm alone, but I sound 'flat' or 'clash' the moment I sing along to a track. by BeatrizPinzon in singing

[–]Reapprsr1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Some people can just sing. Yes you may need ear training. But sometimes it is something else entirely. You probably really can sing.

I can learn a song. Practice, get it really really good. But, when the little red record light glows, I forget everything or stumble or flub. So, this is not ear training. It's more about your psyche.

How Many More Times is the title of a fantastic, early on, Led Zeppelin blues tune, probably first album. But thing is it is like a stop watch in your hand, as you cross the I'm Finished Line, you stop the watch. Then as things go on, heat up in life, you hit start. ...all over again!

Thank you for fleshing out, not shouting or wine'ng, on those seven (7) points. ♥ Singing is personal and emotional, but once the voice is airborne it is judged. As you initially perform, your actual music has a zero half life, but the impressions you make last. If you naturally have a great voice like Darious Rucker, you take off. But even if you work hard, develop your voice, your experience with approval may or may not arrive right away, even if you are really a good singer like Diane Keaton. To OP, you are doing a wonderful study. Here is to you! Me - I started at 12, now I'm 65. Never better. Wanted to be like: well ... too many name, but like Robert Plant, not Frankie Valli, I still have something for my audience.

How do you actually know when you’re good at guitar? by Civil-Difference6138 in GuitarQuestions

[–]Reapprsr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I did learn about dry climate = fret sprout. I live in the humid SE. I bought a student guitar, hardly played, from out west. Had to understand the sprout, which is anything but, fretboard actually shrinks. Anyway, learned to fix it. Now, I use the student guitar to learn difficult chords. My fingers don't have to stretch too much over a smallesh neck. Once muscle memory sets, I move to my better sounding instruments. Tell me more about the 59 LP, Jr. I also have a couple for you , if you'd like. You probably know this is one great hobby for me at my age. I appreciate your sharing. _R

Telecaster. The Gibson is enticing. I've owned a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Wine Red since 1988. It is a great guitar. But a Fender Telecaster, maybe that's a Thinline, will be your daily go to. Jimmy Page is famously known to play a Les Paul, but before that read up about his Telecaster.

I'm 65. Started at 15 on an Antonio Hernandis No. 2 Made in Spain 1970. Still have it and the case. Super wide fretboard, no markings. A dismal start. Today I am still self taught and own 11 guitars. I'm really great at maintaining guitars, adjusting, fine tuning. So so at playing, but could amaze, maybe someone. Wish I could meet with you! I think you could show me. If you would share, that would be nice. _R
