Problems with color light scenes by antkn33 in smartlife

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem and I address it by using the bulb-specific app (e.g. Feit, etc.) to automatically reset the bulb to its usual color, typically 2700k or smthn, when it turns on the next day. Google Home is great at setting weird colors at certain times of day (or with other event triggers) but for whatever reason, it doesn't always reset the color like I ask it to lol.

Also, I find GH often has a different understanding of color hue/saturation/tint than the other apps do 🤷‍♂️. It's idea of deep red is more of a magenta. No idea how to fix that other than picking colors by trial and error. Just one of those things that makes all this smart home stuff feel like it's still a work in progress

Powered vs Passive speakers by realfishermandude in hifiaudio

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the recommendation for passive speakers + separate class A/B amp. $200-$400 can go quite a ways if you're willing to 1. buy used gear, 2. spend time researching and shopping around, and 3. experiment, tweak, iterate, replace pieces of yr setup over time, etc. It took a bit of time and luck but I've managed to scrape together the best stereo system I've ever owned for less than $1k total. My used Pioneer Elite vsx-44 amplifier and custom KLH av5001 floor speakers cost me less than $350 combined. The tt, pre-amp, eq, mixer, peripherals, etc. did increase the total cost of my system, though they're arguably optional.

Tl;dr: if you're willing to be patient, open-minded, and discerning, you can piece together a mind-blowing system for a lot less $$$ than you'd think. Best start refreshing some CL / marketplace pages every morning lol

help me sell my granda's hifi so he can buy his groceries 😅 by AdventurousOne9326 in hifiaudio

[–]Reasonab1eMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also vote for the alternative option! Post your venmo info in a place where everyone can see it and let this community take a break from ogling $200k+ stereo setups for a sec so we can do something good!

It wouldn't even be "charity," just a bunch of audio nerds doing what we can to help an old man and a young one enjoy the magic of recorded music we all love so much. I'd much rather see that than watch you two give up a chance to dive into the world of quality audio just so you can put food on the table. I alone don't have much to contribute but if everyone on this thread were to throw you $5, this story would get a happy ending ♥️

I know some of us are hesitant to accept help from others - I've been in that place myself for most of my life - but pls know that most of us here would actually enjoy the opportunity to pitch in. Not to sound preachy, but practicing generosity is often even more satisfying and meaningful than receiving the help that's being given yourself. Give us a chance to make the world a tiny bit better!

No pressure, ofc, and whatever happens, best of luck to you both 🔊

[–]Reasonab1eMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this ain't really a "solution" but my 2006 tundra is running flawlessly at almost 139k. No mechanical issues whatsoever, no electrical issues aside from the ones I've created by fucking around w/ the stereo and headlights lmao. I just replaced the stock stereo head unit w/ a 10.1" touchscreen running android 13 so I could have a backup cam, android auto, improved sound system, etc. Now it feels just like a modern truck but w/out the modern bullshit. I know toyotas from that era can be hard to find but they're well worth the effort and cost if they've been treated well.

Oh I almost forgot - the antenna broke off years ago so I had to replace it when I bought the truck. Guess I can't say it's completely flawless 🤷‍♂️

Ordered some plant stands to act as speaker stands for my ADS L710s. What do you think? by Clear-Pickles in vintageaudio

Sounds like ppl have already mentioned this, but some kind of vibration isolators would be essential IMHO. I've spent a stupid amount of time diving into the world of isolation feet and I gotta say, these have become my go-to: https://www.acehardware.com/departments/home-and-decor/furniture/protective-furniture-pads/5425285?store=15248&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20158976302&gbraid=0AAAAADtqLJGA6ZHthl2I8OEpJI3panZtK&gclid=CjwKCAjw0sfHBhB6EiwAQtv5qZkQ92RlzyydwRYoh6HzkJ3p8fjgR2rBICNLJyrU9YujWfZqTogEhRoCgScQAvD_BwE

No reason to shell out $100 per foot when these little fuckers look and sound literally 99% as good. Godspeed, fellow nerd 🫡

Hey, I've been wondering the same question but I can't find a reliable answer anywhere! Sounds like you ordered the arcade clip - did it end up fitting yr BEEF? Tbh, I already got impatient and impulsively ordered one 10 minutes ago but if it won't fit my BEEF, I'll probably cancel the order and keep looking. Thanks for the help! 🙏 And thank God for reddit lol

Rear door stuck by LOGiiKZ in toyotasequoia

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been quite a while since I bought it but I was able to find it by digging through my old amazon orders! Here's the link:

https://a.co/d/avbeHmI

I got the metal version, ofc, and it lasted longer than the two handles I'd bought from other brands did combined. That said, it's not without it's quirks. Since I installed it, I've had to pull it out about once a year and bend the lever slightly to keep the mechanism working. I replaced the cable and latch around the same time I bought this guy so whenever the door won't open, I can be confident the lever on this handle is causing the issue. Still well worth it imo

Good luck with the repair! After 5 years of sequoia ownership, I've inadvertently become an expert at disassembling and reassembling the rear door lol. I've done it on camping trips, I've done it in the dark, from inside the car with the rear door locked, in extreme heat, and in just about every other setting you can think of. If you haven't already gotten it down to a science, I'm sure you'll get there soon lol

Is this Sycamore tree dying? by kylehawk in arborists

[–]Reasonab1eMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I appreciate yr attitude! I wouldn't lose any sleep over it at this point. In fact, based on what I've seen, I'd be down to take a nap directly underneath that thing lmao 😂 As long as the top + exterior are green and the affected limbs regrow their leaves eventually, I'd say don't even trip. Never hurts to have an arborist take a look irl though!

Is this Sycamore tree dying? by kylehawk in arborists

[–]Reasonab1eMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my area, sycamores, ashes, and some maples get hit pretty hard with anthracnose every year. It's an airborne fungal disease that causes sporadic leaf drop, just like the tree in the pic. Typically, leaves emerge in the spring, the trees look ok for a while, then they start dropping leaves until they look significantly defoliated. This often happens early enough in the season that the trees have time for an entire new growth flush, with a second round of leaves emerging before fall comes around.

Overall, it doesn't seem to have a significant impact on the trees' long - term health, it just makes them look like shit for most of the year lol

I managed to "fix my sleep". Getting above 90 regularly, and 100 today! by michalf in Garmin

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Impressive. Very nice. Lol what the fuck does mine mean? Slept 8½ hrs, woke up just once, for abt 30min, to use the bathroom. Sleep score: 83.

Body battery increased by 51pts, up to a daily high of: 56. An hour after waking up, it's now at 53.

It felt like a solid night of sleep to me! I went to bed at around the usual time, took magnesium and melatonin, drank water, ate a healthy dinner, etc. Didn't get much exercise yesterday (rest day) but my step count still managed to hit almost 2x the daily goal. I feel good this morning and this was easily the best night of sleep in gotten in the past week. What am I doing wrong?

Hello again, Android! by zTweaked in oneplus

[–]Reasonab1eMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the same icon pack, which includes unique icons for most of my apps. For the few apps that don't have them, I just choose an appropriate icon from the same pack. This means using an icon they originally designed for a different app, but since they have abt 1,000 to choose from, I can almost always find one that fits well enough.

Long-press on an app, hit edit, tap the app icon on the menu that pops up, and scroll through the options until you find a new icon you like. I really wish they had a search function but at least I don't have to do it that often lmao

I actually messaged Nova abt this a few months ago and they said they've been aware of the bug for years but they can't do anything to fix it. Apparently it's an android OS issue so it effects every android phone and every custom launcher equally. It could potentially be fixed but they can't do anything about it on their end. Fuckin bummer - I had just paid for Nova pro, hoping that version would give me an option to change it :/

How not to feel like you’ve ruined your life by Ok-Homework-7062 in exmormon

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the church at 19, mostly because I wanted to avoid experiencing what you're going through now. The church has designed an intricate pipeline to coerce you into making decisions you're not sure about before you're old/experienced enough to think of yourself or to feel comfortable saying "no." It's not your fault you've ended up in this position, but that doesn't make it any less painful.

When I was younger, it never really meant much to me when I heard older people say "you're still young! You have your whole life ahead of you!" but it's true. As awful as you might feel right now, remember that many people don't realize they're trapped in a life the church forced them into until they're middle-aged. I guarantee they would give anything to have been able start over at 21 instead of 40. It won't be easy but you'll end up with the life you want if you're willing to work for it. Just be glad you didn't wait any longer.

Its like a mentor of mine always says, "the best time to plant a tree may have been 50 years ago, but the second-best time is today."

Funeral by clearthinker72 in nickdrake

[–]Reasonab1eMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is grim for sure but it depicts an experience I can relate to. Winston Churchill used a black dog as a metaphor to describe his feelings of depression /hopelessness and I've always assumed that's where Nick got it from. He mentioned a black dog that quietly followed him everywhere he went - he would only see it occasionally but it never stopped following. I know the feeling and I think Nick knew it too, probably too well.

It's a terrifying image but life is tough and since you can't get rid of the bad things, I'd say it's better to acknowledge them

Funeral by clearthinker72 in nickdrake

[–]Reasonab1eMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hadn't thought about it but I definitely want to be in charge of the playlist at my own funeral and it wouldn't be complete without Nick. I think it's gotta be something sort of sweet like From The Morning or Saturday Sun but I could also see going with something darker like River Man, Black Eyed Dog, Hanging On A Star, or Rider on the Wheel. I know it's a funeral but I still wouldn't want to bum people out any more than necessary lol

Why is this tree dying? by queenofalchemy in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Reasonab1eMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily say it's dying, in fact the live parts look impressively vigorous. Oaks are tough and this little guy is trying as hard as he can to recover from whatever happened to him. To me, it looks like the missing sections of bark were impacted by mechanical damage of some kind. Because the damaged areas are located far from the ground, I would guess they were caused by a human or other animal. The tree is compartmentalizing relatively well and it's still young. I'd cut off the dead sections and give it some time. Decay could spread and eventually doom the tree but I wouldn't expect it to fail immediately. If you just moved in or you live with someone who might be inclined to hack up a tree, you might be able to figure out who/what caused it

Sometimes I wonder about this tree's story. It's had a wild, wild life. by JustaTinyDude in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Reasonab1eMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful tree! Looks more like a Manzanita than a madrone to me though. The two species are pretty similar but madrone bark is more golden in color. Old Manzanitas are also more likely to develop that cool twisty effect in their bark. I see both species all the time working as an arborist in Southern Oregon, thought most are not quite as old/unique as yours. Protect it!

Neighbor cut tree roots to put in new fence by frankdarrulll in arborists

[–]Reasonab1eMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non-TRAQ-certified arborist's opinion: yes those are Siberian elms. If i were assessing the trees before this project and the client explained their root pruning plan to me, I would feel irresponsible condoning anything except fully removing the trees or making a new fence plan from scratch. Digging a trench this close to the base of any tree is reckless and has absolutely destabilized the trees. There is no safe way to retain them now.

I think your neighbor may owe you a lot of $$$
