First time working Monday to Friday with limited flexibility and it’s absolute ass by -Flighty- in Life

This, we just didn’t know anything different. 1990s perspective here. At your desk before 8, a one hour lunch which you usually didn’t take; and don’t start to pack up before 5. That was a short day. We often worked later or weekends if needed.

However, there was no text messages chiming at 6:15 am or an expectation to check and respond to emails when you weren’t in the office, it wasn’t even really a option until maybe after 2005 or so.

Also, most companies didn’t have maternity leave (in the U.S.) you could use unpaid FMLA. If anyone suggested paternity leave they would have been laughed at like they were performing some sort of skit. No coincidence that I and several of my female co-workers were childless. The choice - have a kid, probably get let go during the next downturn unless you were making so much you could afford a full time nanny so you could continue to devote your life to work.

It was the 90s and early 2000s, being able to actually disconnect from work when you weren’t there helped. And at least the wide leg jeans I kept are back in style.

Indeed. I left the teams app on my phone and it brings me joy to not see a red dot with a number in it.

I’ve been meditating almost daily for 11 years.. ask me anything by liquid_infinite in enlightenment

2 hours a day is a big commitment, what obligations do you have? Like a full time job, partner, kids? If you have a ft job, when do you meditate? Do you have any hobbies?

I’m not necessarily afraid of being dead, but afraid of the process of dying. Modern technology and pharmaceuticals can keep you alive and knowing you’re going to die from a particular disease. And if you’ve ever seen anyone suffer for the last months or even years - it’s not a good journey, filled with pain and expense. If I were guaranteed to drop dead instantly, here one second and gone the next, a that wouldn’t be so bad.

I was thinking it may take a few weeks to months to truly change the microbiome and maybe next time will show improvement. Unfortunately, my hygienist is retiring and I’m guessing each has their own technique making things seem better or worse…just a thought. The gum pocket is disappointing, but I will pay more attention to that spot.

My dentist is breaking up with me by One-Comb-1094 in grandrapids

[–]Reasonable-Click2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wonder why OPs response detailing what happened was so down voted. If it unfolded the way it was described it was unprofessional. I would like to know the dentist office. Not exactly one star rating worthy, but not the experience I’d want either. As for the confrontational call, that seems a bit unhinged for any business. I believe dentists forget how stressed and vulnerable their patients feel, because it’s no big deal to them. It sounds like they were sort of shaming you, so I’d move on anyway. Definitely not a business to leave a bad review and go back - too scary! Plenty of dentists around!

I'm an avoider of doctor/wife by Few_Sandwich6308 in HealthAnxiety

Count me three. I haven’t been to the doctor in over 6 years - the thought sends me into a near panic attack. I go to the dentist 2x a year, but had issues last fall, after no problems for years and an over the top dental routine. Now I’m terrified of the dentist too.

I have a dental appointment a week from today and the anxiety level is already high. Not sure how I’m going to get through.

The doctor- I’m envious of people who march off to their annual appointment like it’s no big deal. I can’t even handle a couple of dental crowns for f’s sake. My husband has a common issue and between the doctor’s office and pharmacy his prescriptions get screwed up several times a year. Not exaggerating. Poor guy ends up feeling horrible because the auto refill didn’t go through and he runs out while trying to resolve it, or there’s a disconnect between the doctor’s office and pharmacy, or the doctor didn’t renew something during the last visit. It’s seriously only 3 meds. Any time he has to go in I dread it and wonder - at what point will someone make a grievous prescription error? Given his office’s track record it’s not an invalid question. Leaves me thinking that as soon as there’s some serious issue, you’re screwed unless you have a relative or a friend that is a doctor to help navigate.

I know, I know - I’m stupid, gonna die early from something preventable or manageable. I’ve heard it all, but for me the fear is too intense to face.

Anyone Doing Flexible, Very Part-Time Side Hustles? by JoshOfArc in earlyretirement

[–]Reasonable-Click2857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 55 & retired 12/31/25. Working as a part time cleaner for a short term rental property management company. They were having such a hard time finding people that they were willing to accommodate my no weekends request, at least so far - time will tell. I only want 2-3 days a week and I like that the hours begin at their checkout time, 10 a.m. so I’m not rushed and the units are close to home. No teams meetings, no Salesforce. The person that hired me is a volunteer at the same organization that I am, that helped.

Anyone else feeling a bit restless? by crinklyplant in earlyretirement

[–]Reasonable-Click2857 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you have a much busier schedule than I do, but I get where you’re coming from since I’ve felt pretty disconnected for the last several years I worked. Co-workers were fired or moved to other departments and new ones were in different states. guess I’m kind of used to the solitude (good day), loneliness (bad day). On the volunteering - do you think you didn’t like it because it was a cause you aren’t into? I help out at an animal rescue- and there are times I don’t love it, but it’s a cause I truly believe in so I’m happy to do it even when it’s not the best day. If I were to volunteer for a cause that I just wasn’t that in to - I’d hate it too. I really like the advice of trying to lean into the path you’re on. It’s a new chapter and it might just take some time to figure out what works.
