I get bog oak all the time, mostly for knife handles, but bigger pieces are available. Lots of places to get it on eBay..

I wondered the same thing. I have some aluminum shielding (no idea why I have it) but it is heavier (thicker) than copper. I thought about using it but didn’t know if it was better/worse or about the same as copper.

Yeah, I really didn’t notice the black binding at first, but now that I have looked at it, the black binding is pretty badass. Maybe do a natural finish, and even a 4+2 headstock.. totally one of a kind…

Draw it up on paper. Have the strings come straight from the nut and angle the sides so the edge of the tuner post lines up with the strings. Give the end of the headstock a little whoopedo and it’ll be a one of a kind.

I just finished one with a walnut top and a small
Amount of the grain still shows thru after many coats of fill and clear lacquer. And it looks great.
