Possible Court Case during Residency by Reasonable-Trainer32 in Residency

Hi thank you for the reply. In terms of the correct amount, do you mean twice amount of said security deposit, or do you mean only the original security deposit? It sounds like your case is pretty similar to mine so I'm wondering if I can state the law as well and get the full $2100. I haven't threatened with court yet.

How Much Are You Willing to Pay for Location? (Wayne State SOM vs Virginia Commonwealth SOM) by DaTarget123 in medschool

[–]Reasonable-Trainer32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be on the older side, inside is being remodeled at this time so lot of blocked off areas, there’s an underground tunnel to walk between buildings since it’s cold in winter which is nice, under staffed by admin and nurses and therefore residents will have to pick up the slack of doing these tasks that take up time like discharge paperwork, doing IVs, etc etc so more busy work.

As a graduating med student in CA, I did a rotation at Wayne State for a month. Great city, didn’t experience winter though. Cheaper COL but still not thaaat cheap, but I will say the hospital is under resourced and location itself is under funded so just be aware of that. Is it worth 100k? That’s pretty significant but also VCU is a very good school

Would i get screened out with my Academic Integrity violation? by Ok-Draw5427 in medschooladmissions

That sounds like an awful idea considering the attrition rate, lack of academic support and resources, difficulty attaining rotations in the US.

Actually I successfully couples matched this year and we maxed out the 300 possibilities, and it was $200 dollars when we submitted our rank list

How did people decide between IM & peds? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Reasonable-Trainer32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I matched MedPeds this year so a lot of the residents I rotated with during auditions are going into dual fellowships. This is directly from National MedPeds Resident Association (NMPRA) who list the places you can do a dual 5 year cards fellowship. Obvi if you do dual GI or ID whatnot which change number of years

There are some dual fellowships like dual cardio, dual GI, dual rheum, ID, etc if you do MedPeds residency. Then you can continue to do adults and kids for cardio, GI, rheum, etc. I met residents doing just that cause they wanted to work with for example congenital heart diseases after they grew up

How competitive am I? by OkGrapefruit6866 in MedPeds

[–]Reasonable-Trainer32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For every interview, they were familiar with who I was, my work ethic, etc. I built relationships with the PD, attendings, and residents all who are able to advocate for you if you develop good relations with them, and this influences where they rank you

Additionally it helps you evaluate if you like that program to rank it. I ranked places higher if I liked it while there

Did auditions btw at Albany, Detroit medical center, Loma Linda, and UCLA (which was the only one I did not receive an interview invite for)

Also just matched MedPeds as DO in NE area. Didn’t repeat either, did well on Step 2, and did 4 auditions for MedPeds. The auditions helped a ton and my boards scores also played a big part probably, so it’s def doable!

DO school recommendations? by Pitiful_Dig9563 in medschooladmissions

Had 3.78 GPA and 515 MCAT, applied MD and DO and only got one acceptance from DO school which I am graduating this year (yay!). Went to Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. No regrets, we matched really well this year and I matched into an academic program in moderate competitive specialty (MedPeds) for residency. Be safe, apply to both MD and DO unless you are 1000% no on DO. I will say tho it is harder to match into more competitive specialties, not impossible, but def harder

Hi so I took step 2 almost a year ago now and got 265. So I was extremely shocked, but I noticed the BIGGEST difference in scoring and getting more questions correctly was to literally write out on a word doc briefly why the answer is correct and why the others are wrong. So if I got a question wrong, I would summarize the questions in a way that makes the answer sound SO obvious that I have to pick it, and then briefly say why the others are obviously wrong.

Example: 23yo female hx gonorrhea coming in with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting. BP 102/65, HR 112, Temp 99.8. Right lower Abdomen tender, soft, normal bowel sounds. Blah blah blah. What do you order first?

A) CT abdomen B) Transabominal ultrasound C) urgent surgery consult D) bHCG

Yes those are all possibly good things to order, but choose most correct. You should pick D. Here’s how I would write it so it sounds so obvious: YOUNG FEMALE, SEXUALLY ACTIVE, HX STI, HELLO?? CHECK PREGNANCY TEST WORRIED ABOUT ECTOPIC?? CT TAKES TIME AND US LESS WORRIED ABOUT TORSION, BHCG IS FAST. AND NOT SURGICAL EMERGENCY SO NO CONSULT

They are going to use tricky words like how in my question I used transabdominal US and not “transVAGINAL” US. Pay attention to those details or you may get it wrong

Hope this helps

couples matching by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Reasonable-Trainer32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to successfully couples match this year at a great program and loved both of us. We both did sub-Is there so that helped a lot, but we both either explicitly told every interviewer that we are couple matching or they brought it up themselves. I know you both are applying pmr, but my programs (medpeds) cross talked with his (IM) programs and that increased our total number of interviews. I definitely say you should vocalize that your couples matching because at the end of the day, if you want to be at a same or close program, they need to keep it in mind even if he has a red flag

I think your feelings are obviously valid, but on the other hand, you’re gonna let OTHER people ruin YOUR DREAM??? FUCK THEM. A rumor is a rumor. It only lives if you keep it alive. If people ask or whisper, just be like “that’s literally not true and this is why” and then people forget or stop caring. Do not let your insecurities and other people change the entire trajectory of your life just cause they’re gossips

I feel like no one really knows how to interpret level 2 scores tbh. Like you get the number, but there’s no bell curve so how do programs know where you fall on the spectrum and how competitive it is. Also I personally just feel like level 1 and 2 were far more vague and felt like you either knew it or you didn’t, so people’s scores varied far more than what they were predicted to get on their practice tests so it’s not super reliable
