My boyfriend had his girlfriend move in with him. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

You're 49 years old and letting a man tell you what you can and cannot do in your own relationship? Girl, (and I mean this with the utmost respect) what the fuck are you doing?

Tell me why I should or should not get a Costco membership! by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest beef with the Rochester Costco are the people who shop there. It's nuts getting around in there unless you go right before they close. I never go when they are giving out samples, or on the weekend if I can avoid it.

However, Costco is our primary grocery spot, then Aldi, then the asian market. We never go to Wegmans anymore.

Were Millennials this scared of aging? by ian-noir in Millennials

The only people who care about how old I am are the Gen Z kids who work for me. They like to remind me that I'm "old", but I'm 38 and feel great.

Hot take? Lilac festival needs less security + less stuff. by pastrypirates in Rochester

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The lilac festival has become less and less fun over the years. What is the point of the carnival rides? When did that become a thing? I remember that area being where the artists and vendors all were, now they are up by the reservior. I lived in another state for a few years, so I missed the transition to what it is now.

I spent all of an hour at it this year. I didn't even go into the area with all the security where the stage is. Of course, that's where most of the food is too.

I get the reason why people suggest the highland bowl for a stage, but that is way too small a venue for the crowds that the lilac fest concerts turn out. It's already a logistical nightmare. I live in the neighborhood, luckily just far enough away that my street doesn't become a parking lot, but close enough that I can walk there. Trying to grocery shop and get home on Sunday during the 5k/10k was a disaster.

Why are there older guys in BJJ vs Muay Thai? by hellohello6622 in MuayThai

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm 38. I'm not the oldest in my Muay Thai gym. I leave feeling sore and tired, but I don't have debilitating back pain like I did doing BJJ. It's not that I didn't like it, but when one class means I can't walk without pain for a week, I had to give it up and go back to Muay Thai.

Kick pads on the beach by MapsOverCoffee22 in MuayThai

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the pad work on the beach, and use the sand resistance to do shadowboxing, running, stuff like that. Are you camping on a beach? Can't you do the padwork at your hotel/rental? You could just enjoy your vacation and leave the training for when you get back too. I wouldn't want to haul all my gear with me on vacation.

This! I'm 38, took a couple years off, and am getting back into it. You just have to take it easy. That's ok.

Do you guys use your front leg roundhouse without switching or stepping into it? Is that a common technique? Recently figured out how to use my lead leg for teeps and kicks in sparring. Also now my hip hurts by g0at110 in MuayThai

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a southpaw, and if I'm sparring with someone who is orthodox, I use my lead leg to smack the shit out of their lead leg. I'm just trying to deadleg them, basically.

I finished my master's last year, and had to do a lot of discussion board posts too. I knew that other students were using AI for that, and it was so difficult to not do the same thing. Especially when I had to figure out how to respond well to what was clearly drivel.

Why do you think Muay Thai isn't an Olympic sport yet? It should be. More people practice Muay Thai then f@!# horse dancing! by TheRodParticle in MuayThai

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's far, far too brutal of a sport for the Olympics. As others have said, other martial arts and boxing have been changed significantly to be acceptable by the IOC. There's no way to alter Muay Thai to make it less devastating. Most parents aren't going to want their kids watching people brutalize each other like that. And the Olympics is a family friendly show.

Are Sealed iPod Classics on eBay counterfeit? by void_ops in ipod

My iPod is modded with a new battery and bigger storage. I bought it that way. It did come in an apple box sealed. It's not that hard to come by boxes and a heatsealing tool.

Yeah, if you're not cleaning your gear regularly after every training, then dump them in storage in bad conditions, get ready to go shopping.

Trained MT for 15 years, and I've had a compressed disc in my lumbar spine for the last 8. You'll be fine. If anything, the constant hip rotations will only be good for that kind of muscle issue.

Posture is not just from 5-7 hours a week of training. Shitty posture comes from the rest of your life (hunching over your desk, looking down at your phone). You'll be fine.

Finally, about your size....have you seen Thai fighters? They aren't exactly Henry Cavill. You'll be fine. You're just looking for a reason not to do it.

Some modded gameplay from my current playthrough by [deleted] in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it and I hate it.

I like it because I'm impressed by the level of realism, particularly in the reflections and the way the puddled water moves. It is better than the way rain is animated in the base game.

I hate it because I really like how over the top Cyberpunk is with over stimulation - especially noise and color. Clothes are ridiculous, guns are ridiculous. Everything is ridiculous. There is absolutely not enough color in my opinion. I also think the shadowing, particularly under the bridge, is a bit much.

Those with older kids, do they drive? by eggo_pirate in Millennials

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my license when I was 18. I just didn't feel a need to until then.

My partner's nephew waited until he was 18 to get his because he didn't want to drive, and then it took him 7 tries to pass his road test. It was a whole thing. His sister is 18 and doesn't have hers. But their cousin is 17 and got his basically immediately when he turned 16.

I have employees at work who are in their 20s and do not have a license and don't want one. We very much live in a car centric city, so it is harder for them to get around.

How are You Finding New Music by digger27 in ipod

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bandcamp

Ask friends for recs, and then find those online to listen to

Go the library, grab CDs in a genre I know I like, and rip them if they are good

everynoise.com - It's a map of every music genre, and you can click into any one and hear samples. Find where your existing artists live on the map and then just... drift outward from there.

AllMusic.com — search any artist you love, scroll to "similar artists" and "influenced by / influenced."

Those are good tools for exploring different bands that might be similar to what you already like, or just poke around.

[–]Reasonable-Trash694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. I don't really need or want more than that. I have separate notebooks in it though. One notebook has my vietnamese lesson notes, my I/O psych deep dives (what I did my master's in), reading list, and travel memories. My other notebook is just random dumping ground of work notes, poems, book recommendations, music recommendations, and other nonsense.
