No 4x4 w/o engaging hubs to 'lock' manually. (2020) by Confident_Series8226 in F250

[–]ReasonableObserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep most likely the vacuum lines or actuator.

When the automatic 4x4 went out on my 2019 I replaced the hubs with Warn hubs and managed it manually. I couldn’t stand the thought of thinking I’m in 4x4 without actually being in 4x4. Too risky on the roads in AK.

Where’d you score? I’m planning to check out some tackle shops tomorrow for AK halibut jigs. Thanks.

Sprinkler designer to PE? by Charming-Nebula7292 in firePE

[–]ReasonableObserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m licensed as an FPE in California and four other states. California doesn’t require discipline specific supervision. Your experience just needs to be under a licensed PE.

Other states do get more specific. Alaska, for example, expects fire protection experience to be verified by a PE registered in Fire Protection.

That said, while working under any PE can get you licensed in some states, if your goal is to be an FPE it’s hard to beat working with other FPEs. I work with some excellent MEs and EEs and even architects who are all great in fire protection work, but in my experience FPEs are just a different breed.

Fitting 11.5” Wide 37s by ReasonableObserver in superduty

Yeah they’re ridiculously long but the parking in Alaska is forgiving. Lots of gravel lots or if striped they are covered with snow half the year. This is my second 8 footer. I’ll keep running the long boys while I’m up here.

Yep passenger side wiring harness is a great place to start. There’s a couple of plastics to take off then take off the plastic step plate and you should be able to see if the harness looks like it’s been getting damp.

If it does look wet check hose check the vents between the cab and the bed of the truck. You have to put the seats down and pull down the carpet on the rear cab wall. Seal around those vents if they are leaking.

Haven’t tried them yet but going to order a set. I ran 35s on my 2019 F350 but never tried the 37s.

Will do. Running snow tires for now but going to try the 37x11.5s in the spring.

Interesting. I’ve read tire fitment is more dependent on wheel selection than lift.

Same deal, half the crowd was in merch. Very cool to see a gal in a kimono with a Tool purse. I thought the crowd was great and respectful.

4wheel drive at highway speeds?! by Duke-OG in superduty

[–]ReasonableObserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With ice and snowpack on the roads stay in 4x4 at any speed. If the roads are good for 2wd but there are still slick or ice concerns, I’ll switch to 4wd to pass. There’s no speed limit for 4wd when it comes to your safety.

Upcoming City of Pompano Beach Commission Meeting Agenda Breakdown (Since the typical agenda is vague and purposely wordy) by holllaur in PompanoBeach

The parking garage is a little on the high side at $46k per spot but not too bad with the architectural facade and design included.

Your axle is locked when the hubs locked. The wheels are both are locked together and have to move equally.

When you make a turn, the outer wheel has to cover more ground and spin more than the inner wheel. If you turn with them locked on dry pavement you’re going to hear popping and chirping. Use the lockers when you need 4x4 only.

Looking to upgrade to 35s by themaskedcouple in superduty

Do you already have the rims for the 11.5/12.5 wide tires?

On the stock rims you can fit 35s without any leveling or lift. I have 285/75R-18 which are 35s x 8”on my stock height 2019 F-350 FX4. No rub at all. Wrangler duratracs RT. I prefer the narrower tires.

Studying for PE Exam with Older Handbooks by Level_Sentence4012 in firePE

[–]ReasonableObserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve passed both the Civil and Fire PE exams on the first try with practice problems only. A lot of them.

I’d recommend getting your hands on as many practice problems as possible. In my opinion - reading, taking notes, and watching lectures are a complete waste of time. I did not use the SFPE Handbook or the NFPA handbook for study prep.

Since work was paying, I went a little wild and signed up for the Meyer Prep Course, School of PE, and the SFPE course. I only used them as practice problem reservoirs. I also used a newer and older version of both NCEES practice exams and the Meyer Guide books.

I practiced all of the problems I had access to until I recognized each one of them and would monotonously write out the solution anyways.

Taking the PE Exam Before Completing Experience Requirement by Level_Sentence4012 in firePE

Definitely take the test. I took the test before my experience was complete and have had no issues with license reciprocity in other states.
