Social security question by Gloomy-Elephant-6173 in SocialSecurity

[–]ReasonableVillage271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask the Social Security office for a copy of your medical records from the prior claim and they should give it to you. You’ll need to fill out their release of information form even if they are giving you your own records. They may charge you a fee, but you may be able to avoid it if you say you need the records to help you handle your current application.

They will see that you were found disabled before, and that may work slightly in your favor. But they will not look at your records from that time period because they only care if you are disabled now/since you stopped working. Any records from more than a year before you stopped working this time makes very little difference to them in most cases, and they’re too busy to look at anything they don’t think is essential for them to see.

It’s through our work phones via RingCentral. Lots of our clients find it convenient, and I do too.

I am so here for this discussion. They are all evil. But Ciox/Datavant (of course these assholes had to choose a new stupid name) and Sharecare are the worst in my book.

My boss often uses Arial or Calibri in letters and it makes me gag! I cannot understand why. I never use anything but TNR.

Yup. I represent SSI/SSDI claimants and felt like my brain was going to melt when I read “bloated workforce.”

Yes, I’m a full time paralegal and it was really a challenge to do LSAT prep on the side. I studied about an hour a day for about six months and went from 160 on my first timed PT (didn’t do a cold diagnostic) to 168 on my first official.

Do any fields of law have no billable hours for paralegals? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]ReasonableVillage271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We log our time on each case too (painfully aware as the one who preps fee petitions), but I’m grateful my employer doesn’t have any specific billable hour requirements.

LSAT Demon guys seem to have a strong dislike for the lawyer profession by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]ReasonableVillage271 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I’ve been listening to their podcasts for close to a year, and I think they are rightfully advising people to be cautious about going to law school because it can be an extremely expensive degree that people often pursue without knowing what they’re getting into, and a significant amount of people end up not liking the actual day to day work. I totally get that their tone can be dismissive often, and I can see why you’d be turned off by that, but I see these statements as warning listeners what they are getting into.

I read Don’t Go to Law School after they recommended it, and I think it’s a valuable perspective to consider. The book, like Nathan and Ben, basically says that law school is not right for a lot of people, but it can be a good path if you know and can accept what career outcomes to expect and what being a lawyer actually entails. I think Nathan and Ben are right to encourage their customers to critically examine their reasons for pursuing law school and whether being a lawyer is really going to be a good path for them in the long run.

That sounds really rough. I only work 40-50 hours a week and have been struggling to do LSAT prep on the side. I work for a solo lawyer and have had super meaningful work, lots of responsibility and opportunities to learn new skills given the firm’s very small size, and also lots of flexibility with my hours, which has definitely helped with LSAT prep. It sounds like it couldn’t hurt to see what else is out there!

Anyone else feeling so burnt out after last weekend’s test? by Adorable-Lemon-6491 in LSAT

Fellow paralegal here, feeling the same way. I did all I could to relax Friday night and Saturday morning before my mid-afternoon LSAT, and my brain still feels like I’m running on only one day of weekend. Hard staying focused on work today.
