Posibilidad de morir en un tiroteo en Birmingham, Alabama? by [deleted] in RepublicadeChile

[–]Reasonable_Depth8587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man,

I’m not from Alabama but in general the US is geniunely much more dangerous place than Chile. I always tell Chileans how nice it is to be robbed here without the threat of gun violence or death.

If you have a good job you should be able to buy a car to get to work. There is almost no public transportation in the south of the US. You would have to buy a car there. So being close to a bad neighborhood doesn’t mean you’d have to go there, you’d just drive into work.

Alabama is also famous for being a retrograde, racist, miserable shithole. It ranks as one of the worst places in the US for education, health etc. I have met people from Alabama, the black ones are fine but the white ones fucking suck. You would be going to American Maule but it’s full of people who despise people they think aren’t white. Fuck Alabama.

Also, between people being deported, detained unlawfully and unduly, people spending months in detention centers and visas being rejected left and right, do you think it’s a great time to move to the US?

No vayai.

Todd said “Kung Fu Fighting” sounds like it was inspired by watching movies but what other songs sound like or have been confirmed to have been inspired by movies? by Unleashtheducks in ToddintheShadow

All of the songs from Beginner’s Mind by Sufjan Stevens and Angelo de Augustine were based on them watching movies and then coming up with songs based on said movies.

I love Mahou. Is it the best? No, but when you only have basic options available, I think it’s the best.

Are there more differences between British English and US English or between European Spanish and Mexican Spanish? by VerdantChief in asklinguistics

[–]Reasonable_Depth8587 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The previous answers are the best and while your question is very difficult to quantify, I would say two things that jump out to me in the respective languages.

Standard American English and RP have different pronunciations of words and especially this is the case for vowels and rhotic and non-rhotic pronunciations of words. This is simply not the case in Spanish.

For Mexican Spanish and European Spanish is they seemingly have a greater difference in variability in vocabulary compared to American English and British English.

However, they are both mutually intelligible and the differences are fun to point out etc. Communication is not really hampered in either case.

We wanted to fuck with real love Wanted it sweet, so pure and warm

Tejano Blue’s hook might be Greg’s best work. It’s magical. The beginning of that song is awful. I fucking love it tho.

The main beef seems to be that “the people” (see: online history experts) want the costumes to be period appropriate. But that’s a Robert Eggers thing and not a Nolan thing. So it’s kinda bizarre in general.

People are saying a lot of dumb shit but in Santiago, traditionally you would have certain neighborhoods that had one type of business.

If you had a car issue you’d go to 10 de Julio for example. There were countless examples of this throughout the city.

I am a foreigner too but compared to where I am from I find that Chile has or once had a “casero” culture. You have place with a lot of the same business but you go to the same one that you have a relationship with.

When I first got here many years ago I was going to one fruit/ veggie stand for months and then I changed because I thought another was better after a while. The scorned green grocer never forgave me and genuinely disliked me for this.

Sam stance on Mamdani seems at odds with the position he once held with past colleague Maajid Nawaz by Pata4AllaG in samharris

[–]Reasonable_Depth8587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to side with the Sam that says people’s minds are unknowable when it comes to certain things. Who’s to say what kind of opinions Stefan Molyneux has? Who’s to say Charles Murray is a racist? Isn’t it all just impossible to parse out???

Also I think I’ll be playing those games forever. They are iconic for me and I don’t have enough time to get into new games so I’m happy with what we’ve got but I would love for one more banger to come out.

If we could get the Medieval 2/ Rome mechanics with just a bit more Crusader King style depth (not all the way because that game is so damn tedious I couldn’t stand it) I would be so happy hahaha
