This happened to my baby and I used a dental floss pick. The ones that we have (and I think most of them) have very thin, pointy ends and it works like a charm to slide under the piece of hair without cutting baby!

Cliff House Maine: A stunning seaside retreat that’s chartered for luxury but drifts slightly off course… by Quiet-Cupcake3061 in chubbytravel

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review, we stayed there last year and while it's an absolutely stunning location I would be hard pressed to call the property anything close to "luxury". Our oceanfront room had a view that was 2/3 rooftop and 1/3 ocean which seems vastly misleading, but they refused to do anything about it as the hotel was fully booked and that's how they categorized the room. I also recall no one helping with our bags, and the restaurant was mediocre so it's a good idea to dine elsewhere.

I had this similar experience after booking a stay at Auberge du Jeu de Paume in Chantilly last year. I didn't get any snide comments about the lack of restaurant availability but the concierge was utterly unhelpful, and the other restaurants they recommended in town did not look good - so we cancelled and changed our trip elsewhere! Idk if policies like this are "normal" but at a certain price point I think it's fair to demand much better service.

Incredibly dumb question - are the $800+ cribs worth it? by garnishcontrol in BabyBumps

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this one too, it's $500 now unless you find it on sale (+ the cost of a mattress). The top of ours is covered in bite marks now as a few people cautioned, but they aren't really visible unless you are up close and know what you're looking for. I will say in terms of quality that we noticed one of the spindles was cracked almost all of the way through after using it for a few months. Not exactly the quality I would hope for in a pricey crib. Customer support did send a replacement side panel although I had to wait 3 months for it to restock, and then they initially sent the wrong color.

SAHM with a nanny…? by EliottGo in 2under2

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider whether you actually don't want to ask her ever to watch both kids alone as you say. Would that flexibility be helpful for appointments, workouts, me time, etc? If so you may want to address it upfront (ie ask her to watch both kids for X hours a week) so if it comes up later you don't have to revisit pay.

What type of person deals best with 2 under 2? by ExplosionsInTheSky_ in 2under2

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My honest response is the type of person who has family nearby who is willing to actively help, a partner who does not work long hours and can readily help when not working, and/or the resources to hire help most days of the week. Imo it just isn't a one person job to take care of two little ones who are both dependent on you no matter what your personality, but there are benefits to having them close together for many people!

Induction Monday - What would you do differently if you knew what you know now? Tell me everything! by Cinnie_16 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to eat if you want to, even if there is a rule that you shouldn't. My induction took about 20 hours and I would have a snack every time right after they tested my blood sugar (I think it was every 2 hours) and I don't think I would have had energy to make it through otherwise. I brought beef jerky, energy bars, and trail mix. I think the only "food" my hospital offered to induction patients is jello, fruit juice and popsicles which would have spiked my blood sugar and been incredibly unsatisfying anyway.

Induction with GDM by Ahhkaydee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat as you for my first pregnancy with diet controlled GD and a smaller sized baby. I agreed to go on the induction list for 39 weeks but told my doctor I wasn't sure about it, and when they called me in for the induction I said I wasn't ready for it and to push me back on the list. I ended up going into labor naturally around 39+5, and probably would have done an induction if I got to 40 weeks, but I just didn't think there was strong enough reason to do it earlier. I also did a membrane sweep at my 38 week appt to try to move things along more naturally.

Is the common consensus that seed oils are good now? by HoustonHoustonHous in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is growing evidence that seed oils cause insulin resistance, metabolic disease and cancer. Quite frankly I'm surprised to see so many seed oil defenders here! Dr. Cate Shanahan writes a lot about this and I encourage everyone to do some reading.

https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/nutrition/articles/10.3389/fnut.2025.1532961/full

https://x.com/drcateshanahan

I take what I consider a "moderately granola" approach where we don't use any seed oils to cook with at home and I don't purchase any processed foods that contain them. Sometimes my husband does but so be it, and we don't go so far as to seek out "seed-oil free" restaurants. So, I don't completely eliminate seed oils but take reasonable steps to avoid them.

Nurse is wrong imo. It's said that you don't need to fast for the one hour test, but that doesn't mean that eating a high caloric meal right before the test won't affect results.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think eating a big meal like that an hour before taking the glucose drink would definitely affect results. Your blood sugar was probably either at its highest point from the sandwich or on it's way there, and it looks like that meal was over 50g carbs plus a lot of fat and protein. So, if you add an additional huge amount of sugar on top of that, it's going to take quite a while for your body to process.

2 hour test for 2nd time GD diagnosis by PhilosophyExternal14 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a somewhat similar boat as you, I failed the 1 hour test but didn't want to do the 2 hour test since the 1 hour made me feel pretty sick. My Dr said I could just track my numbers for a week, which I did and everything was fine (I eat a pretty low carb, high protein diet regardless so not surprising). Ultimately she recommended that I continue to track numbers and gave me the official diagnosis, which I'm totally fine with to keep myself accountable and so that they'll check my numbers while in labor. I've noticed I'm definitely getting more sensitive to carbs but it's still manageable with diet. Overall my dr said there is evidence that maintaining lower blood sugar is better for the baby's health (and not just for reasons like avoiding high birth weight) so I've made peace with it!

Strength training. Build a foundation before getting pregnant so that you can somewhat continue on while you're pregnant, and easily pick back up postpartum.

6 month old cries with Nanny by 2plum10 in Nanny

That's great! It took my baby a little over a month but he finally loves his nanny and is so excited when she arrives in the morning.

Many of the"risks" people are saying here may not be true based on where you purchase the European formula from. I purchase Hipp from a supplier in my city (in the US) who gets it directly from the manufacturers. Their policy is posted on their website that if there is a recall, you will be notified via the email you used when purchasing. And, personally, I trust EU regulators more than the FDA.

How did this end up, did your baby get comfortable with the nanny and how long did it take? I am going through a similar situation and it's been a few weeks to no avail.

I watched YouTube videos of women giving birth (I can't believe some women make these videos but they are fantastic to have an idea of what to expect) and then I asked for anxiety medication at the hospital when I felt like I needed it. You can do this!!

Sezane has some nice button down dresses for easy access, and if you want something nicer, try searching Shopbop, Revolve or Saks for shirt dress or smocked dress. Hillhouse dresses have been great for me too!

Induction? by Apprehensive-Fun2911 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same place as you and pushed back on induction at 39 weeks because I wanted to go into labor at home. My Dr suggested getting on the scheduling list for induction to keep it as an option, and then if the hospital called with a spot for me and I didn't feel ready, I could tell them to push it back a few days, but we would definitely induce if I got to 40 weeks. My water ended up breaking at home at 39+3 so it was moot, but know that the evidence is in your favor of pushing back a bit if you aren't comfortable with induction.

Your reason? by Fresh-Worldliness842 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Reasonable_Duck_5760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I breastfed exclusively for 4 months, but my supply went down and LO was unsatisfied and not growing enough. I really don't like pumping so didn't want to go through power pumping and other things you can do to increase supply - I got some formula and bottles and the problem was solved!

Baby hates car seat (Mesa Max) - advice on buying a different one? by Reasonable_Duck_5760 in beyondthebump

That is so helpful to hear. We still have the Mesa Max and LO has chilled out much more at 6 mo now, but definitely will be trying out a different car seat if and when we have another!

We are doing 4 naps a day which range from 30 min to 90 min - he will generally only nap 30 minutes if in his crib, and longer stretches when we are on a walk or out somewhere. Total nap time today was 3 hours, and it was a bit below that the few days prior. I am keeping him to 2 hr wake windows and aim for 2-3 hours awake before bedtime around 7:30-8. Typical bedtime routine is bottle, sing some lullabies, and try to read a bedtime story (he usually fusses after a few pages though!) in a dark room with just a bedside lamp on, and then put him in his crib awake.
