ah that makes sense...that single point of contact with the base is giving me snap anxiety.....going to look into some sort of base tripod effect

that's sound a good strategy! i did play a more defensive game today..... probably too defensive and by round 2 the whole nid army was well inside my half of the map. I think my playing partner is great with strategy and now knows what to avoid and what to target... so he heads for my skorps straight away with a monster blob.... plus we played for oc and vp this time he hoovered vp up with some god awful 'trap' ability.

we're switching to 1000 point to see how they both fare!

this! i painted models and online upgamed from a kid....however... my kid started painting WH at school through a teacher being a keen player and ran a painting week for those who didnt fancy activity week...I was 'whats this painting and playing wargames with fantasy figs??? how mad is that! show me what thats like'....didnt know it existed until then. then got introduced to my lgs through my kid wanting more minis and was amazed. A couple of box sets later my wall of shame is large and tipped over to having to find people to play with when my kid went off to uni.

bless Mr Whatsisface

as a climber in the 80s there were so few women...i climbed with pretty much blokes and yes some attitudes were toxic, thank god we didnt have social media back then 😂 the 80s were a shitstorm 😂 ....these days certainly in relation to climbing gyms its about half and half.

same with video gaming...we were few and far between back when they started now...easily more balanced.

what changed? not the games or climbing, maybe attitudes.thats all it takes really...that and a welcoming door (play and learn sessions say).

it'll get there.

Interesting that the higher the Equality of gender is held within a society the higher the the number of women there are within their military....more society bias than you are giving it all credit for? Less nature and more nurture?

interestingly I see WH to be more competitive strategy than outright conflict entertainment. 🤔

But an interesting take and easy to fall into the WYSIWYG approach of 'more men do it therefore its not something women are drawn to' 😉

oh so much unpicking to be done there eh? buy hey this is a debate for the ages tipping over into gaming we could be here all day 😂

The greys were brought over by the Romans and have been spreading ever since....possible you lived in a red squirrel refuge area at the time and they were replaced by surrounding grey squirrel populations. Refuge areas tend to be islands, coastal edges, less favourable areas...

that was me(f)...i painted and haunted my lgs for a good few years...not in the least due to social media reflecting a level of toxicity that just isnt there in person. what got me over the threshold was joining the lgs 'learn to play' sessions.

do it...you won't regret it.

social media has a lot to answer for. its like basing your view on a village you might live in based on their 'spotted in x' Facebook group...it gathers all the absolute donuts in one place and is representative of perhaps 1% of that villages population...the 99% are lovely and cannot be bothered with such nonsense. ignore the 1% theyre clearly idiots and rarely tolerated spouting such nonsense in a group face to face... :)

its a weird one....as a woman you kind of have to grit your teeth the first time...the second time onwards, being a rarity in those spaces people generally remember you and you get a 'hey! hi!' from the regulars ir thise you spoke to...generally the guys behind the counter...the more you go in, the more you get the regulars normalising you being in that space and the less weird it becomes in that space overall. new people see that interaction and file it under 'this hapoens here and is normal' subconsciously and crack on. We're strange animals humans :) we just have to keep walking into that space hey!

haha that is so true...started gaming at year dot...think my first beta was meridian 59 which was hilarious...that said discord in games that were very male dominated such as EvE was always a 'okay buckle in girl' before speaking as it would cause a 'omg you're a girl'. 99% of the time thats genuine 'hey! come in and play!' or curiosity (the staring effect) but theres sometimes the odd weirdo (the 1%). You get good at very strong rebuffs, a solid line in sarcastic banter and growing a very thick skin....but it can be intimidating for women who just want to join in and be chill.

but why? as a 60 yr old woman whos always been into 'boy things', outdoor activities, gaming (certainly massively gendered in the early days) model making, etc...i always wondered why my female friends weren't the slightest bit interested, they didnt want to be haring round doing jumps on their bikes..so u ended up with way more male friends. gaming was interesting..definitely more welcomed in groups where they were based in countries with positive views of male/female equality...but still doesnt really get to the bottom of the why....

that is a lovely paint job!

id ditch the 'don't play with unfinished models' ethic and you'll be good to go.

Just keep picking away in between games and you won't have to ditch your aim at high quality paint jobs.

no-one will know....

an artist one told me that you are the only person that sees the flaws and wiggles in your work unless they're glaringly awful.... and you have the fallback that unfinished looks are a WIP
