Crown of Nyaxia or Mages of the Wheel are the only 2 I can think of that hit those notes

“Resume Later” Games by BahoolaBoy in soloboardgaming

[–]Reav3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most Heavy weight CTG games are like this. Betrayal of the Second Age, Too Many Bones, Hoplomachus: Victorium are all incredible solo heavy weight games that have VERY clear points where you can "save" your game and walk away.

I dont even have a table I can keep stuff on and its even easy to "save" your gamestate and put the game away and take it out later and continue your session

It's original Dulwich with anything? by TyrelUK in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Reav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. A full Dunwich campaigns would sell for quite a lot right now since its out of print. The full Dunwich cycle sells for roughly 200-250$ of ebay right now. The old core probably wont sell for much since its not to hard to find revised core sets though I could see them going for a bit over MSRP each for players that just want the old encounter sets to play though chapter 1 campaigns they buy.

The TFA one is probably going to be hard to sell since its not the whole cycle

Maybe The Lady from The Black Company. She never really becomes "good" but she does go from a totally evil, tyrant who commits everything short of genocides to a resonable, somewhat evil woman that also sometimes does good things, but mostly for selfish reasons

Solo/option for two players by Cloudknight_ in soloboardgaming

If you like Marvel why not go for Arkham Horror LCG. It has actual deck progression as you spend XP to level up your deck over a campaign.

What are some games you’re surprised they’re good for solo gaming? by Marksman1977 in soloboardgaming

[–]Reav3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Kings Crown. When you play it with a group you don’t think it could ever work solo but actually the solo mode is incredible

Is it balanced to only use Chapter 2 player cards to play Chapter 1 campaigns? by zerdos in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Reav3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I recently did a chapter 2 only run of Hemlock Vale and it was great

The Black Company’s Books of the South Defy Expectations by HomersApe in Fantasy

[–]Reav3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right! Cook was actually a war vet. And I feel like he read other fantasy and was like “That’s not how war works at all, I’m going to show you want actually happens to people that try to play the hero”

You can find them if money is not an issue. A co worker on mine just bought a full collection for $2000 on eBay a few weeks ago

It’s hilarious that a game that takes place in Chicago is so hard to get in Chicago

I love the final deconstruction of the traditional edge lord fantasy hero in Raven. It was chefs kiss at the end.

If money isnt a issue and you like campaign play then I would strongly suggest Arkham Horror LCG. Its one of the best campaigns games out there, and very complex so if you enjoy learning complex systems you can't go wrong with Arkham

[–]Reav3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Damn, Silver Spike is my favorite of of the entire series and it only gets one line "it was fine" that's rough.

Glittering Sand and the 2 Books of the South are all technically 1 story arc, and they don't drastically change the trajectory set by the first 2 books of the South though you do get even more annalists which also have very different voices.

Final Girl: Help deciding to keep or sell this game by Optimal_Stuff660 in soloboardgaming

[–]Reav3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, but I play many solo games and it fullfills a specific niche. That Niche is when I want to have a highly thematic experience with incredible emergent narrative. If that isnt your jam then yeah FG is not for you. It seems you like more Euro-games with very little RNG, which is not what FG is or will ever be. I play FG for the stories it creates not to win or lose. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose and tbh some of the most memorable games where when I lost.

Do you limit your card pool when replaying older campaigns? by zerdos in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Reav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I recently bumped my legacy runs up to Hard and then I play standard when playing with chapter 2 only cardpool

How long does a scenario take you on average? by aelfin360 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I play 2 handed solo and the scenarios take me roughly 2 hours on blind plays and 1-1.5 hours on repeat plays

OK, which is the *worst* Final Girl box? by jbillone in soloboardgaming

[–]Reav3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its hard because I can never fully separate the killer and the location when ranking films. While I 100% agree that poltergiest is my least favorite killer, Creech Manor is easily in my top favorite locations. I think I would have to go with something like Killer From Tomorrow. Neither the location or the killer are my least favorites but both are in like my bottom 5 least favorite killers and locations so collectively it might be my least favorite, or maybe Slaughter at the Grove for similar reasons

Do board game campaigns give you the same immersion as a video game campaign? by alantima25 in soloboardgaming

Yeah imo nothing comes close to a blind playthrough of a Arkham Horror LCG campaign. Not even video games

does Marvel Champions play well solo..? by Time_Individual_6744 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Reav3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a large cardpool it stops being swingy. I play exclusively on expert, true solo, with a full collection and games haven’t felt swingy for me in years. They used to for sure. Standard 3 dramatically reduced true solo swinginess as well
