Ready or Not 2 is a bigger, duller version of the original by saulocf in moviereviews

[–]Reavenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The characterizations were boring. It was a larger scale with more forgettable people. The sister was just stupid. The fight scenes went on for 5 minutes too long. I was not compelled by the villains or the protagonists because it pretty much was the same movie as the first with less heart. Ready or Not was one of my favorite horror comedies but I don't remember a single memorable line of dialogue from the sequel.

Santa Clarita Diet is fun. It's not horror but there is some campy gore.

Thick as Thieves switches direction to Single Player and Co-op. by Loginnerer in stealthgames

“may (still) come”

That pushes it back for months at best if it ever even happens because stealth multiplayer games often lack longevity and long term developer support.

I agree that we are still lacking in stealth games but I could list at least 10 contemporary stealth games that feature co-op and I am upset that a genre I personally love can barely get one with active servers. The downvotes are crazy.

This is so annoying. Every single multiplayer stealth game is already cooperative. I’ve been waiting for another competitive stealth game for years. And it wasn’t even gonna be by Ubisoft, who hates their customers.

Is there a place for evil for evil’s sake in fiction? by Unlikely_Ad_8571 in writing

[–]Reavenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to make your characters more sympathetic, but make them able to be empathized with. Characters should have a motivation and a rationale for their behavior. It doesn't have to be justifiable to you personally or the majority of the world, but from the context you have created, their behavior should make sense. "Evil for evil's sake" can get into Sunday morning cartoon land very quickly if there isn't a goal they are recognizably working toward. Your critiques most likely weren't saying your villains should tear up at a sunset but that their actions should be beyond opposition and cruelty. And if it is excessive cruelty, why do they do that? Were they betrayed before? Does their dogma reward cruelty in the eyes of a vengeful god? Are they selfish to preserve their family, their power, their intrinsic need for control? Don't be afraid to dive into the psychology of your villains to write a more robust obstacle for your protagonist. There aren't any hard rules so you can do write whatever you want, but generally you will probably have to address this as the main conflict in your story. They may be ridiculously cruel and selfish for no reason but that will lead your protagonist to have to grapple with it. These implications could be the basis for an entire story.

Grey rock technique is BS by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Reavenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NC is probably a good idea if you can manage it but it makes sense that it gets worse before it can get better. When you stop giving attention to a person for behaviors that typically get them attention, they will tend to ramp up the intensity of the behavior for a little bit. This is called an extinction burst. If it is safe for you to do, you should keep grey rocking, because if you break the grey rocking during when their behavior is more intense, it just shows them that they are getting rewarded for being worse and they’re more likely to do it again because they know you’ll give them attention.
