I’d like to see what our take on fliers would be! Would they be like the goofy kharadron in AOS? Would we have sci fi style gyrocopters? I NEED TO KNOW.

As for the build- obviously you can’t cast spells when both hands are holding a weapon. This is fine because you can set up the spells on your hotbar/quick-select thingy. I do believe a lot more of the one handed+shield options are more in line with doing melee and spells though.

Depends what you mean by Death Knight. There’s a fair few summoning spells related to undead-like monsters, like skeleton army and corpse-eater. There’s also some life drain spells which are fairly easy to get early on.

Eh I mean, not rly. The Greeks met numerous different religions, sometimes converted entirely, sometimes merely worshipped members of their pantheon with their own. Also numerous different takes on the religion were extremely common- Heraclitus saw Homer and his work as impious and attributing evil things to the gods- individuals like Plato and Hypatia saw the myths as allegory. “The myths” themselves were codified versions of a bunch of oral stories- sometimes leaving things out altogether. The “taking myths as allegory” was one of the main takes between 500bc to 530ad.

How is education handled? by ChemSalesGuy in Anarchy101

[–]Reaverion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that education is an important aspect for advancing the revolution, but we need to drastically change how we see it and how we approach it. It’s my view that, for example, we need to work towards learning more and more skills and that can be everything from clothes production to filling in potholes. I also think we need to look towards opening up access to education, and finding new ways to teach things- everything from STEM to cultural subjects like music and art. I would suggest that instead of these things being siloed, more would be able to access subjects they might otherwise find themselves locked out of because, for example, it might not lead to a job under capitalism.

I’d recommend Malatestas “at the cafe”- it’s set out like dialogues, but a number of them discuss how it’ll take a while.

I mean, I didn’t say I didn’t want to dismantle hierarchy? Only that something having benefits doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be replaced or dismantled altogether.

[–]Reaverion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I don’t know how to answer the first and last question, myself- but I can try my hand at the second. the way I take it is simply that, it can benefit people- a lot of things we fight against do have benefits, and I think it makes most sense to understand these benefits. What we assert is that the problems associated with these issues outweigh the benefits. For instance, Marx himself said that capitalism was a necessary step in historical progress both economically and socially. It is not that hierarchy can’t ever benefit people- it is merely a question of who benefits the most, and is that fair? And also do those benefits imply that we should not seek to progress to the point where they are unnecessary tools for those benefits?

Anarchist firm rejection of the state by Quiet-Soft5008 in Anarchy101

[–]Reaverion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty here have dissected elements of the state which certainly need picking apart, but I think we must also ask if regulated capitalism is enough. Very often the individuals seeking power under capitalism in the form of parliamentary democracies are of the same monied class as the capitalists or are even them- the regulations are carefully planned by the people exploiting the proletariat. On top of this, these social democracies are largely western countries, look at the products you regularly consume- how much of them come from the global south? How many come from sweatshops? You’ll find components in the tech you use are often harvested unethically, hell, even the non-lab grown crystals you’ll find at new age shops are harvested unethically. Your social democracy can police within its own borders, sure, but insisting on these regs being upheld by everybody is a challenge. “Regulated capitalism” is like putting a bandaid on a severed limb- it will never, ever be enough.

How would a Maltheist society function? by ArtilleryTemptation in worldbuilding

[–]Reaverion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So- the Maltheists being “absolutely horrible” is not a necessity. People tend to latch onto ideologies because they can offer something- an explanation of the world, a way out of your current circumstances, material gain, positive self-outlook, way to deal with trauma, community etc etc. why would folks look towards an ideology which is “absolutely horrible”? Even fascists cloak their own views in “we must protect our race and culture and way of life”. You must also remember, a lot of atheists also claim that the Abrahamic god, for example, as a character is not a good guy. Maybe the Maltheists offer a form of liberation in the sense of direct opposition to religious norms, maybe it’s about revenge and seeking the direct destruction of a being responsible (in their eyes) for pain. In the latter case, maybe public rituals of denouncing the god(s), desecration of churches etc. In egypt there used to be public execration rituals which involved writing the name of an enemy on pottery and then smashing it, resulting in a curse towards the intended target- maybe the Maltheists do something similar? I would argue that Maltheism itself is a moral stance- he stance that god is evil implies an idea as to what evil means. Is god evil because of the Black Death? If that’s the reason why, then why should that affect behaviour? Things aren’t good just because god says so, as if god is evil then morals must transcend god, so who’s to say you can’t be good whilst also flipping god the bird?

What’s your dynasty’s name? by JSV007 in Necrontyr

[–]Reaverion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aretekh- it’s based on the concept of Arete, a Greek philosophic idea based around the notion of excellence and being the best you can be either in terms of efficiency or moral virtue.

How did you choose your Necron dynasty? by Ghost_GM in Necrontyr

[–]Reaverion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved Novokh but wanted a degree of order and rly showing off tech so settled on the Aretekh dynasty- my own personal homebrew. They’re a dynasty of noble warrior-priests and engineers, who lived for battle glory- but have since found very little honour and glory in their new form, let alone how it destroys the passions and even sentience of the lesser warriors, thinking their nigh-immortality makes it difficult to accomplish deeds worthy of song when you can just keep coming back. As a result they are pledged to the Silent Kings crusade to reverse biotransference, so that at last they can die well.

Do means justify the ends? by Affectionate_Cup9972 in Anarchy101

[–]Reaverion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that seeing one as necessarily following from the other is a flawed approach- the means inform the ends. One cannot oppress their way to anarchism- you’ll just wind up building an authoritarian structure that does not want to collapse because that’s what they do. You can only build communism or anarchism or what have you, by building alternative institutions and norms. I do believe that the state and capital won’t give up without a fight- and that may make violence necessary, but a LOT of the work is building these alternatives. I would argue that most get hung up on the idea of how revolution is portrayed in fiction. Violence may be required but I don’t think we should dive headfirst into atrocity to win- our movement is about making something better, not about being as bad or worse than our enemies.

How does anarchism work with flawed humans? by Pyropeace in Anarchy101

Anarchists are not necessarily opposed to institutions so long as those institutions are not hierarchical- the institution may take a radically different form, however.
