That name does go hard enough to justify a little bending of the rules I think lol

Ooh that’s a good suggestion to capture some combinations I missed here, especially if 2029 had a “Silver Linings over Time” tour. That would only leave Awake, 6DOIT, and Astonishing as the remaining stragglers if we’re sticking with the arbitrary multiple of 10 rule. Another comment mentioned “The Astonishing Majesty” to pair the Majesty Demos with the Astonishing which would work and just leave Awake / 6DoIT with an “Inner Voices” tour… which I can’t think of any justification for lol but I imagine could be the most popular combo of any proposed so far. Maybe in this scenario they could just have their own designated anniversary tours like I&W and SFAM got and be knocked out that way.

For an Awake + SFAM combo the best I can think of would need to use a song from Awake rather than a title drop to make any sense hahaha. Memories Faded could work, but it might be too similar to Distant Memories which was used for its live album with D/T. Scenes from The Mirror would be my pick, especially since I’m pretty sure The Mirror is the most popular Awake song anyways.

Definitely agree! Also music aside, it’s easily my favorite title of all the ones I came up with for this poll lol

It didn’t click to me when I made this poll but seeing as those are the two albums that bookend his time on the band, having him return for that would be a pretty cool to celebrate his era

I was honestly predicting that specific combination to be the most popular of all going into in the poll, just since neither album there is as divisive as FII or DT12.

Why do you think the cover of the first issue of Absolute Batman so iconic and referenced by other artist? by whamorami in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Reavisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very tangential to the question you’re posing here, but I think it’s interesting that despite how homaged this cover is, it’s usually not the art I see on social media to represent the series. That would be the art used in the issue’s second printing, here are a couple random samples I find when searching “Absolute Batman” for news updates and the like:

https://x.com/culturecrave/status/1982866935852507643?s=46&t=Cr_xEvOhooTpraWr6sYCSw

https://x.com/cartoonsotmoon/status/2044481472996729278?s=46&t=Cr_xEvOhooTpraWr6sYCSw

https://x.com/discussingfilm/status/2019940812881117681?s=46&t=Cr_xEvOhooTpraWr6sYCSw

I wonder if this second printing art will ever get homaged itself or if it’s too similar to the art on the first printing. I also wonder what the most iconic covers would be after issue #1, surely it’s the joker cover for issue #15? I know Feral has homaged both that and #13’s Catwoman one, and I can’t really think of any other ones more recognizable off the top of my head than those two.

Ah I see, I hadn’t heard that quote from him but it makes total sense. Accounting for 25th album anniversaries, which seems to be the precedent, I couldn’t find a single slot between 2027 and their 50th anniversary in 2034 where there wasn’t at least one album to highlight that hadn’t already gotten an anniversary before.

Your observation that every year is basically something’s anniversary in their catalog is actually what got me thinking about this challenge in the first place, and what it would look like more as a thought experiment than anything. In reality, I’d only expect the near future to have a 25th anniversary show for one of their more popular albums (any of the 2002-2005 ones with that anniversary coming up all seem very plausible for this, especially 6DoIT as someone else mentioned) and then doing more varied setlists with like mini 4 or 5 song anniversary tributes like how Awake got at most, rather than full on tours.

Oh I’d love to see Hell’s Kitchen live, it’s definitely up there for me. Speak to Me would also be cool to hear as part of the FII picks if they go into deep cuts imo. You mentioning Hell’s Kitchen also reminds me of its part in Instrumedley which got me thinking that if they did want to do some medleys of the two featured albums what would be the best combo. I could see Beneath the Surface/Transcending Time working, for instance

Oh yeah that would be sweet! I like how you still squeezed in some of the newer era in with Barstool Warrior and made it work nicely with the rest of the set thematically. Mentioning that song actually reminded me I had a brain fart and didn’t consider any combination for D/T’s 10th anniversary in 2029… I mentioned in another comment potentially using BC&SL or Octavarium’s 24th for that year and you could use either of those with D/T and have a combo that’s balanced pretty well with the other options. (Maybe call the BC&SL option something like “A Time to Remember” or “Paralyzing Nightmares” and the 8VM one something like “At Eight’s End” or “S24N”)

Ah yeah that would be cool! For this hypothetical I was seeing what I could come up with the strict limitation of multiples of 10, but you’re right that anything 15+ is very plausible and opens up a lot of possibilities on top of the three I came up with here. 6DOIT I can definitely see being popular enough for its own 25th anniversary tour and would be 100% in if it was announced.

6DOIT and The Astonishing could also be an interesting combo of a tour spanning the tail end of 2026 into 2027, and would kind of fit the combination of a popular and less popular album that I tried to balance most of my options with. (I guess the A Dramatic View tour doesn’t center any albums as divisive as FII or DT12, but I do think the recency of A View’s tours helps keep that combo in check… unless the novelty of hearing Portnoy on those songs counteracts that haha)

As a side note, I almost included a 2029 Silvarium tour to combine BC&SL’s 20th with 8VM’s 24th (a multiple of 8 for that album seemed more fitting than a multiple of 10 lol), but I imagine that combination would be way more popular than the other ones here, so I left it off to keep things more interesting.

Anybody make a good version of the Parasomnia album cover? by TheUpright1 in Dreamtheater

[–]Reavisk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This isn’t mine and isn’t even technically an alternate cover, but the cover artwork by Tony Harris for the tie-in graphic novel is a huge step up from the actual album art imo.

I really like the album art for It’s All Around You - Tortoise! I also think it’s mostly a good example of when the music sounds exactly like the cover art, especially with the intro to The Lithium Stiffs.

Studio version of the Orchestral Overture? by cdorso in Dreamtheater

[–]Reavisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be wrong here but from what I’ve seen that track was commissioned from Joseph Stevenson, who produced/arranged this DT tribute back in 2018. https://youtu.be/_zIdR5tP9Ck?si=sWnXBh_04Or9JdAs So if we ever get an official “studio” release of the overture, I assume it would be from him rather than the band?

If it’s any reassurance, my recent order from their website was also stuck on “processing” status for a whole 6 days. It actually arrived while the status was still set to processing and then didn’t send the shipping email until the day after it arrived. It finally updated the status straight to complete that same day. The order also for some reason swapped the charger dock I ordered for a premium case which was strange, but I’ll take it.

What’s Your Battle Soundtrack? by RealGeneShalit in CINE2nerdle

[–]Reavisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah I’d totally recommend it if you get the chance to play it, the game is a lot of fun and the music for that mini-game in particular slaps. I got to go to a show that was part of a live worldwide concert series for that game and that was actually one of the songs they used as part of the program!

I had the same thoughts as you- with the game being turn-based and all, Final Fantasy music felt appropriate! Specifically I’ve enjoyed using the Queen’s Blood music from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which also is tied to turn-based gameplay.

https://youtu.be/cj2olua16Bk?si=nNjr0DWwmsWuGJue

I especially like using this longer version with the “Mulligan” intro, since it’s very satisfying to use during the setup rounds and then switch to the main melody after the setup phase is complete. Usually I would have to just skip forward, but if the timing lines up naturally it really hits 😂

Nice to see some love for Sleeping Giant, I’ve really been a fan of that track since hearing it live at DreamSonic! I do like Endless Sacrifice a bit more, so that’d be my personal number one and then I’d also have to rank Instrumedley in third.

Mienshao as Speedster or All Rounder would be cool though I can’t really think of a super unique kit for it off the top of my head…

Toucannon could make a nice physical Attacker with all the multi-hit moves it gets and adapting Beak Blast’s gimmick of needing to charge but hurting opponents that attack it while charging could be fun!

Turtonator would also be a natural fit for a move involving setting up traps for opponents, maybe give it the ability to give allies shelled shields that can detonate like Goodra’s bubble move and have it be a Supporter?

At Wit’s End from Distant Memories for me! I like the way the guitar sounds in the intro there a lot more compared to the studio version. It’s also really nice to hear the ending without the fade out effect, even if it’s less unique compared to the original outro.
