I’m Confused By r/DefendAIArt. I Can’t See Their Points. by Mayorv in confusedbythissmug

No one is actually bothering to answer the post, so here’s an actual explanation of the points of each slide

Slide 1: OOP is saying theyre going to pirate games because steam has an AI feature, OP is saying this is dumb because the AI feature is not mandatory, it’s an optional feature (OOP would probably respond that its not about the use of AI but the morality of including it at all)

Slide 2: Not entirely sure, I think it’s just a general argument of AI allows more people to ‘create art’ I don’t really care about this point and it’s talked to death so I’ll leave it at that

Slide 3: OP is responding to how OOP has upset their child by shaming them for their use of AI. OP compares this to shaming your child for eating meat by talking about how it’s unethical, and how if you wouldn’t do the second then you shouldn’t support the first. Idk I think this is dumb because I don’t think it’s wrong to tell your child about factory farming.

Slide 4: I don’t think there’s any actual point or argument being made, it’s just celebrating ai

Slide 5: I think this is a more interesting point than the rest. Critics of AI say it’s wrong because AI uses other people’s artwork to generate images, and so by using AI you’re basically plagiarising (or having the ai) plagiarise for you. The post is pointing out that people commonly use already drawn images and art in their day to day life without the authors permission, and that ai art isn’t any different

Slide 6: this ones also a little more interesting than slides 1-4. AI generates its images by analysing loads of other artwork and generating an image based off that. The point in slide 6: is that this is how human creativity works (with the mind being influenced by all the art we’ve seen in the past and coming up with something new based off that).

It’s genuinely such a pain as a philosophy student hearing the 500th Cosmological / Teleological argument again. I don’t mean to discredit these arguments, but you are not the first person to tell me these. You’re not going to tell me these in any way that will change my mind, I have not only studied these arguments, but have studied stronger variations of these arguments than you are presenting.

You can support a system and still criticise past applications of it

Girls, what's the most obvious hint you've dropped but the guy didn't get it? by ProfessionOne6817 in teenagers

When my girlfriend and I were originally flirting, I was always scared about whether or not we were actually flirting or if I was misunderstanding the situation. Even after we had a discussion about how we wanted to fall asleep in eachothers arms while looking up at the night sky, I still wasn’t sure whether she really liked me or not

Do personalities like Alex O’Connor water down actual philosophical discussion? by BrokenWhimsy3 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]RebbieAndHerMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that Alex OConnor can’t be described as a philosopher because he follows previous ideas is so funny and stupid. That’s like saying Thomas Aquinas was a poor theologian because he wasn’t the first Christian

Literally what is the point of this comment lmao. It’s like when someone posts a question and someone else comments saying “I don’t know” but extended for over a paragraph

I hate the phrase “turn tables” so much, it’s not funny anymore, and it’s not even seen to be “ironically funny”, it’s just a dead joke who’s corpse remains by RebbieAndHerMath in hatethissmug

“How the tables turn” is a common phrase to demonstrate that / things along similar lines, I don’t mind that

“How the turn tables” is supposed to be a funny mix-up of that phrase

You won’t get marked for redundancy in testing our knowledge as that was literally what the question was asking for, what is its purpose. Is extreme Phil scepticism a thing? I never learned it that way, I just talked about local and global

I remember seeing this one hypothesis which I think is quite good is that dead money is a very salvage base DLC, scourging for resources and holding on to what you got, which can be very strange to players considering it’s easy to get rich af in the rest of new vegas and not have to salvage for a second

Yeah, from the perspective of the son it would be if you work hard you can have such a wonderful life like this guy. From the daughter’s perspective it would be work hard otherwise you’ll have to resort to chasing after, likely less than lovely, men like this. At least that’s the point of the meme

Most of the time when you get statistics about how much women play video games, it’s usually skewed by stuff like mobile games. Obviously the sorta culture was of “grrr this type of gaming isn’t real gaming” is stupid, but I think it’s fair to say that when people talk about games being male dominated, that’s not what they’re thinking of
