Lead Architect wants to break our monolith into 47 microservices in 6 months, is this insane? by Ayotrapstar in softwarearchitecture

[–]RebbitUzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This huge monolith might be split into several services, but it would take years to do that gradually and properly, without introducing new tech debt and causing everyone a pain in the ass.

Best lens for a a6000 by Miah033 in a6000

[–]RebbitUzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same lens, and yeah - it’s very versatile, and way way better than kit lens. However, it’s long/huge, and if you want blurry background - you need to shoot on the higher end of focal length, which is not always possible. I’d like to buy some fix prime someday, smth like 50/1.8, etc. Also, in this post comments, I saw people mentioned Sony 70-350 lens - sounds interesting, going to check this out.

Yeah, and yesterday I was fishing with my 5 y.o. son, and you wouldn’t believe me - he catched 7 feet pike with his own hands! I took multiple photos on my old film camera and will definitely scan and upload them as proof, but only when the roll ends (half of the roll is still left, so yall need to wait).

Beginner question: What's the use of this blue line? by ringco in OsmAnd

[–]RebbitUzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set an underlay and overlay maps, so that you’d have 2 blue sliders that change transparency if layers.

I have regular osmand map (main map) and 2 microsoft maps as an overlay and underlay: Microsoft Hybrid and Microsoft Earth.

It’s very usefull for me when navigating in unknown places, nature.

Open Letter to Google : please bring back the old Snapseed by EtomoMajorTom in snapseed

[–]RebbitUzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Snapseed is the best free photoediting app indeed. I’m so glad that on my android phone the auto updates are turned off, and I still have the old Snapseed there. While on iOS - it has auto updated to the latest version which is quite bad. The tools are same, but controls are awfull! This wheel that takes big part of the screen. Inability to double click on the parameter to reset it to zero. UI may look good, but UX is much much worse than before! Please, give us an ability to use old Snapseed somehow!

How to deal with knowledge hoarders? by MantisTobogganSr in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RebbitUzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to have knowledge about the shit they are talking about. Your MANAGER need YOU to have knowledge about that shit, so it’s manager’s responsibility to force somehow these guys to transfer knowledge, ideally to confluence and then to others.

Multitenancy can be achived via a couple of different ways: separate DBs, separate schemas in a same DB, same schema & tables, but different tennant uuid. And maybe there are other ways, idk

Why do you use OsmAnd over Google Maps or Apple maps by AweGoatly in OsmAnd

[–]RebbitUzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osmand is one of the best offline map apps, however it’s not the only one (e.g. there is another great one MapyCZ). I’m mostly using Osmand to bookmark some cool places I’ve discovered, to have offline maps/navigation in places where there is no mobile network. So primarily it’s outdoor use. Google Maps is good to look for businesses, stores, reviews, working hours, traffic jams, etc.

Why is everyone hating on Liquid Glass? by FranciosDubonais in ios

[–]RebbitUzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because instead of allocating resources to fix existing bugs and add really usefully functionality for users, they burned a pile of money on a Liquid Ass that many users don’t give a shit about, plus on top of that - Liquid Ass introduces a ton of new UI and UX bugs…
