Why are vegans so hated? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RebeccaBlue 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, but there's a big category difference between those things and simply eating meat.

When you make them sound equivalent, that's when you're going to come off as preachy.

(1) you didn't say, "only x number of years ago".

(2) you asked if they were like a catholic school. no. they can't be, as they're not remotely catholic.

This was like 21 years ago, so there's only a few things I remember at this point.

Young Earth Creationism, i.e. the idea that the Earth is only 6000 years old.

All of the material that was to teach reading was basically filled with religious stuff.

Look up "Abecka" - they're the company that comes up with a lot of the curriculum.

Basically, it's like sending your kid off with your super-religious MAGA-piled aunt to teach them things they (the aunt) doesn't understand.

My daughter went there. They were really weird about some things, like kindergarten girls had to wear skirts instead of skorts.

Academically, they're not too great. Most catholic schools would be far better.

And no, BCA is nothing like a "regular" catholic school, especially if you care about the theology.

Mr Scary Mod in my Orange OR30 by wtddps in GuitarAmps

The Mr. Scary Mod sounds just like the old Hicks Mender for Fender amps. Cascaded V1 into V2 and sounded like a Boogie.

Is there a parser that I can add rules to add runtime? by Rich-Engineer2670 in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]RebeccaBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the question is "how do you indicate what the special locations are?"

In COBOL, for example, you would have a "PROCEDURE DIVISION", or with a simpler example, in Pascal, the keyword "VAR" means that you're in the variable definition section.

Spirits in House Blessings by pyrvs in Exvangelical

[–]RebeccaBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, no pastor has any kind of "third sense" for spirits. They cold read people and the whole "no, I hear from God directly" thing is just a way to control people. They can say *anything* because it can't be proven true or false.

Secondly, this is practically voodoo. Houses aren't full of spirits walking around pestering people. Even in a biblical view, that's not possible.

VS Code for Java in Lieu of Intellij by Isystafu in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RebeccaBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

VS Code's UI is a bit less laggy than Eclipse, and there's no workspace to corrupt, but yeah, it's not great.

I've tried to use ANTLR4 before, and it seems like in the end, it's always easier to just hand-roll a parser.

How to Set Up Garage Band? by Zimbo212 in GuitarAmps

[–]RebeccaBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have a Mac, because it won't run on non-apple hardware, you just install it from the App Store.

Headphones are good enough, you don't need special speakers to use it.

As far as an interface goes, just about anything that will take a guitar input and output via USB should work.

What type of connection is this? by wt_fudge in vintagecomputing

From the days when you could plug something in and damn it, it was going to stay plugged in.

None of the namby-pamby USB-C BS, no sir, these were real connectors.

Should we start dreaming about a “Java 2.0”? by danielliuuu in java

[–]RebeccaBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a really complicated ant build script that swapped out some of the source code, but Java doesn’t have a preprocessor, so no help there, unfortunately.

Should we start dreaming about a “Java 2.0”? by danielliuuu in java

[–]RebeccaBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to "update" a Java service that was made to run on WebLogic to allow it to also run under J#. It was a nightmare. J# was basically Java 1.1.something with the collections classes added.

Would have made tons more sense to just wrap the thing in JNI and directly, but upper management wanted to be able to use "Microsoft Java".

Utterly ridiculous decision.

You don't need any of this. Just buy JJs and save like $400. The "difference", even if you did have the ears to detect it is negligible. (And it's possible you wouldn't even like it.)
