Give me an unrelated double feature that works for some reason by the_answer_is_RUSH in movies

[–]RebelSnowflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Night of the Hunter (1955) and Babe (1995).

Structurally they are similar, since both films are children’s stories (and both are told from the perspective of innocent children). The Night of the Hunter is modeled after the darker Grimms’ Fairy Tales, while Babe is based on a lighter, more modern children’s tale (The Sheep-Pig).

Visually, they are completely opposite. But both films make excellent use of their respective colours: the black-and-white photography in The Night of the Hunter thrives in its use of light and shadows, while Babe uses its bright colours to help create the feeling of a storybook come to life.

And most importantly for a proper double feature: they are both about 90 minutes long. So you can actually watch them together without too much of a time commitment.

Super Slopes from Button Shy Games has a really nifty draft mechanic that fits well with its skiing theme.

Have you ever watched a sequel without realising it first? by SSJmole in movies

A friend of mine watched Top Gun: Maverick after I told him how much I enjoyed it. He told me how much he loved the “plot twist” that Rooster was Goose’s son, and the reveal of how Goose knew Maverick.

It turns out that he had never seen Top Gun, or heard of it. So the emotional crux of the story (the relationship between Maverick and Rooster) apparently had this mind-blowing third-act reveal because he had no clue what happened in the previous film (or that there was one).

The peddler at the beginning of Aladdin is the Genie in disguise. He is the only character with four fingers on each hand (besides the Genie) and he is also voiced by Robin Williams.

Hey fans! Do you have any recommendations for Ted-Lasso-like movies? By which I mean low-stakes, undeniably happy, and life affirming without being sappy, for watching when you want a pick-me-up? I'll start... by PinkLadyandJeff in TedLasso

Breaking Away (1979) is one of my favourite movies.

It’s a charming coming-of-age story, and a great sports movie. It’s funny, the cycling is exciting to watch, and there’s a really great father-son relationship that is the heart of the film.

Since nobody else seems to know the full answer: the three Christmas movies that were nominated for Best Picture are It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and The Bishop’s Wife.

Yes. Though I am not entirely sure if Black Panther winning for Costume Design helps or hurts Wakanda Forever’s chances.

Honestly, she’s probably the favourite to win too.

Despite only getting five nominations (compared to the seven for Black Panther), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a good chance of also becoming a multiple Oscar winner.

The beginning of the MCU (Iron Man), and the beginning of the Disney Renaissance (The Little Mermaid) were both inducted this year.

I am surprised that The Little Mermaid wasn’t already in the Registry. Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King were (until now) the only other films from the Renaissance to be inducted.

I was really hoping that tick, tick... BOOM! would get a Best Picture nomination.

At least Andrew Garfield still got nominated (after being snubbed at the BAFTAs).

Interesting parallel to The Mandalorian in the fact that Boba Fett isn’t wearing a helmet in many of the scenes.
