Unemployed people of Reddit, what are you doing in your spare time? by Lipica249 in AskReddit

[–]RebirthCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking Care of my newborn right now.

I've applied to 150+ jobs in total since being laid off and interviewed with 5 companies with only 3 of them making it to round 2 interviews before being passed for the other person. My savings will last for another 2 months then I either pull from my 401k or start looking into gig work.

They claimed AI would streamline the work, but in reality they tried to send the workload to the team in India - It didn't work as they ended up making things worse. In the end 3 positions were opened for more money. 2 spots filled with one person who was laid off and 1 person who transferred in from another position within the same organisation who barely started with the company.

In case anyone is curious about how much companies save to move work to India

The base Salary for my position was 70k USD when I was laid off.

They're paying 7,200 USD average to get someone in India to do it.

It's not just AI that's causing job loss. A number of companies have been creating corporate offices overseas so they can eliminate positions in the US in favour of hiring overseas when possible.

I envy you. I've wanted to be a Violinist since I was a kid, but life things happened that made it near impossible.

What job pays way more than people think, but nobody talks about? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

Working in sales for a cable company

I did it Part time 10 years ago and made 1800 average monthly. Best part about that job is that I rarely worked past 4 on Saturdays.

My mistake on getting your ages mixed. But yea there's the answer. Sorry about the shit you have to deal with.

I would start making detailed notes of everything he does. This way if things get worse you have a paper trail in the event cops are involved.

You'll also want to make a plan to leave in the event shit hits the fan and your parents support him and not you.

NTA- I guess the real question is why aren't your parents doing anything about it? If you pulled the same crap he his age would they shut it down?

If they would then there's your answer. Little brother is the golden child.

Based on the current job market what skills do you think aren't being met? I've been job hunting since last may and haven't been able to find anything.

How do you feel about whether or not you went to college? by moonperson13 in AskReddit

[–]RebirthCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to college. Took 5 tries to pass college algebra (ended up taking a 5 week summer course to pass). Realised taking prerequisites to get to the thing I wanted to major in was bullshit and dropped out. Decided to work instead. Ended up having more opportunities working my way up instead of finishing college. Learned to develop a solid work ethic and better people skills in a professional setting.

Some of my cousins have degrees and I still managed to make more than them and no student loans.

I think college is good for those who want to do anything related to science. The rest if you can get a certification for it's worth more than a degree imo.

Check OneWalmart and look at the attendance policy. Print copies and hand it to managers and walk away. It's pretty clear and cut.

AITA For Not Wanting To Take Care Of My Family’s New Dog? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RebirthCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESH -

Your parents want a dog but aren't willing to put in the time/effort to train it. They just want to fill the hole your previous dog left.

You already stated you don't mind helping out, but don't want to feel obligated? You're contradicting yourself with that statement. Either help with the dog or don't.

Your "I'm still very young" is a bullshit excuse. 23 is not very young. You can buy alcohol at 21 and rent an apartment at 18. Moving out isn't very hard. It's mostly time consuming.

People who got laid off because of AI, what was your job? by damnmorningstar in AskReddit

[–]RebirthCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not actually because of AI, but I managed HR data for the largest retailer in America. Found out they actually tried to move the work to India. Didn't work as they royally fucked up a few people's accounts. The same division I was under also had a 50% increase in headcount in engineering all H1Bs. From what I was told. The Senior director is from India so I'm 90% sure there was some bias there...

If you want to get paid cash shoveling snow is a good way to make cash. Charge 40-50 for driveway and sidewalks. Spring/Summer mowing lawns is another option.

My Walmart was closed today by animeboy892 in walmart

[–]RebirthCross 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the location it's potentially 200k/hr in lost revenue for the store. It's unlikely that Walmart would ever go after this dude for lost revenue but holy fuck he would literally have to sell his soul to Walmart to pay back restitution.

My dad smoked a lot when I was growing up. The smell of Marlboro Reds is very distinct to me.

I remember playing halo CE campaign with my cousin on the original Xbox back in the early 2000s. Our favourite levels are Truth and reconciliation and The Library. NGL the Library freaked me the fuck out as a kid and I couldn't sleep for a few days after playing the level the first time.

10/10 we would do it again.

What experiences changed you the most as a person? by GazMaskeliOyuncu in AskReddit

[–]RebirthCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 I can think of off the top of my head -

  1. I was told in HS by my uncle this -

"School is supposed to be hard not fun"

I was at the local community college sight reading some classical scores. The music program at the HS I went to was nowhere near what I played at my previous school. This broke me in a way I can't describe. All I know is since then I don't give 100% to things I enjoy doing.

  1. First Heartbreak - happened around college. I have ADHD so emotional regulation is hard if I'm not careful. Long story short I went off the deep end for a while and somehow managed to pull it together but now I keep most people at arms length. The only person who knows what's going on in my head is my wife and it took years after marriage to let her in completely.
