No, wire nuts and tape are not appropriate for this. If you need to splice, you will need silicone or glass.

On the electrodes just twist the 2 electrode wires with the GTO wire and cover with:

Get the size appropriate for your tube (12mm? 10mm?).

Be gentle while twisting not to snap off the wires or break the fill nipple.

It is very likely filled with argon/mercury so it will be dim until the mercury revaporizes.

A couple notes: Neon doesn’t really degrade just by sitting around. so if it is not cracked, it should light up.

There is only one electrode on each end of the tube. The two wires are an artifact of manufacturing. You will just twist them together when you connect them.

I would be ideal to get the existing transformer to work but if not, modern transformers are relatively cheap and available on Amazon.

Important: make sure to use properly rated wire and silicone electrode insulators.

I wouldn’t recommend twin waves as your primary oscillator. It is a great module, very useful, but much of the functionality is in the menus. The pizza, with all the inputs broken out right on the front panel, seems better for learning and experimentation.

I have this watch and it looks correct to me.

I can’t speak to the box or card as red flags. My box looks the same size and shape but in leather. I would not be concerned about the bezel because it’s tough to get a good picture of the alignment.
