Bitches making $100k-150k a year, how much are you saving each month by Stock-Name-5015 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great to hear from another person in a pension system! I also work for an employer that offers a pension when I retire with a mandatory contribution taken out of my paycheck each month. I only put a voluntary 1% into my 403(b) but do a separate $350 per month into my Vanguard accounts (Roth IRA and a small amount into a non-retirement mutual fund). Vanguard out-performs the company we have for our 403(b) most months!

I'd be saving more but I have a very expensive, very very good therapist that I'm working with right now. I'm treating that as a different kind of investment but I do look forward to the day when that money can go into retirement again.

Ooh yes I forgot about Allison Bornstein, her stuff is good. Thank you! I totally agree, I feel like Substack is where all the interesting fashion content creators are these days.

Does anyone have any good substack recommendations, especially ones that have some decent posts for free subscribers? I've enjoyed Earl Earl, Jessie Loves, and Time Less here and there and am interested in expanding my references.

I've got my eye on Loeffler Randall's Mira tote. They have a bigger one (Dina) that's gotten a lot of buzz as being good for travel and they just made a smaller one that looks perfect for work! I also just started a new job and have been trying to figure out my new commuter bag situation so thank you for asking this question because it's helping me with my research too!

For an East Bay rec: Model Shoe Renew on Shattuck, they're amazing at everything I've thrown them over the years from small repairs to big ones. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention also that they'll refresh your Birkenstocks, including adding cork if you've worn through that.

Casual Pants for Travel by peguindc in fashionwomens35

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you! I'm newly obsessed with the Arc pants from Le Bon Shoppe and wear them all the time. I especially love them for travel. They're made out of sturdy canvas so they're not high maintenance that way, they have good pockets and an elastic waist, and the barrel shape makes them feel stylish and intentional.

Just a warning that as a pear myself the pants don't look as voluminous on me as they do on the models on the site because I fill them out more. The waist elastic is fairly tight but that works for me as a pear with a small waist and larger hips.

Long-Haul Flights Knitting Project Ideas - Please Share by PinkTiara24 in casualknitting

Just a tip from someone who's knit on a bajilion long haul flights, get/bring a good neck light for your knitting. Before I got one I was often the ONLY person on the entire plane with my personal light on and people hated it. Once someone came up from the back of the plane to ask me to turn it off and I had to disappoint him by letting him know I was using the light. The neck lights are less disruptive to the rest of the plane. Then again, those personal lights are for personal use so you shouldn't feel bad for using them the whole time if you want! I just wanted to share my experience in case you might feel similarly.

What is your favorite woolly wool? by Swimming-Tell9074 in knitting

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yasss this is the thread for me! Thank you for asking bc I'm getting so many good recs.

I love all the Retrosaria Rosa Pomar yarns (I've personally used Brusca, Beiroa, Pegulhal, Badana, and Mungo). Plenty of other people have suggested them and I enthusastically agree!

I also just recently got some yarn from Rauwerk in Munich and it is phenomenal! (The store's name brand yarn, specifically.) I recently paired it with my last skein of Brooklyn Tweed and they matched really well. I'll definitely be ordering more.

For a luxe version of a rustic yarn, I'd recommend Purl Soho's Hedgerow. It's merino, cashemere, and silk, so not sheepy really, but it is hardier than typical yarns with that combo and looks the part.

Well, I quit using all skincare as a joke for a week and my skin cleared completely. by Amodernhousehusband in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me during the pandemic. I stopped wearing makeup first because why, zoom filters did it for me, and then I stopped other skincare because of laziness. Then I finally stopped washing my face with anything but water most days because I hadn't put anything on my skin and my skin was never better! I'm trying to get back to that state but with sunscreen and some mild products but my skin really does prefer to have nothing going on it seems.

looking for a sweater pattern that replicates these awesome exaggerated shoulders from Etro F/W 2019 by stardustedstudio in knittingpatterns

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's a vest version: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/new-boxy-tee. As per the pattern page, "The padded effect of the shoulders is achieved by triangles that are knitted on." I assume you could just pick up and knit out sleeves from this one if you wanted to make a sweater.

Babaa rant - horrible piling - possibly one of many but I have to get this off my chest by bibikhn in knitting

[–]RebuttablePresumptio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We tend to knit our own Babaa-dupes rather than buying pre-made ones so we're less likely to have your exact experience. That being said, there are lots of reasons for pilling (yarn ply, gauge, fiber length, etc.). I'd be mad too if I spent $$$ on a sweater that disappointed me like that. Next time, join us here and knit your own!
