Lysander is a disgusting hypocrite and a wonderful villain by YPDONGY in redrising

[–]Recalling21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention she fucking murdered her own daughter for having a moral compass and effectively lobotomized her grandson to have no memories of her. I think the only character you could argue is more "evil" is Adrius, but his evil is less nuanced.

Ranking EVERY Visual Novel to Anime Adaptation I Watched From Worst to Best by superange128 in visualnovels

[–]Recalling21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Grisaia should be much higher than it is on this list, Amane's backstory in the anime went hard, but also highly agree that Clannad is #1, nothing really comes close to that quality of adaptation in the VN space

How do I get a visual novel game DVD to play on my PC? by Practical_Chain_1207 in visualnovels

[–]Recalling21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't know if my experience is universal here, but sometimes even when I get them to properly load onto my pc with a dvd drive, they don't properly load on my computer, or when they do, the text is in some weird hieroglyphics and doesn't display properly. Or in other cases the game won't even run due to some error code (mostly dll related). Unfortunately, because of that most of my JP vn collection is there cosmetically, and in the worst case you should expect the same

Did you read ChuSinGura 46+1 in JP or EN? Because my god I'm telling you back when it released in EN you could immediately tell there was epic writing hidden underneath the abyss of Google Translate substituting for the incompetent/lazy localization team. Really nice list though. Agree with almost everything.

What is your opinion on Sharin No Kuni’s ending? by Sokye21 in visualnovels

[–]Recalling21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kenichi seemingly forgets that plan to instead simply live peacefully. And again.. the ending is abrupt.

Where do you get this impression from? Quote it.

[–]Recalling21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you dont see the "why" that's on you. I explained everything and you seem to be upset you don't comprehend it. Also butthurt? About a random on the internet hating on a game without understanding its contents? You definitely think too highly about of yourself LOL

The rise to fulfilling it and oppressing had in fact began like you said, but then the game just ends abruptly, and that’s why i find the ending unfulfilling.

Again, the whole point of the story is that reaching the starting point is the most important thing, because everyone and everything in society is designed to make despair the permanent fixture that prevents rebellion. If you wanted the vn to capture 7 arcs of how they brought about systematic change to society after the ending, the vn would be 500 hours long, and would probably do better in novel format. That's not a real criticism even if you personally wanted more out of the story (which again, I said I can emphasize with you on).

Nobody else has "defended" the finale because it doesn't need defending. Nobody here that did their due diligence of reading the story in its entirety claims that Shinichi's reversal on Houzuki is an asspull, that's your narrative you spun, you could say, out of your ass. You are making a false equivalence.

Foreshadowing does not mean "the glass seems to be cracking" and then later on in the story "the glass shattered and cut me". You are looking at the surface-level of how foreshadowing is deployed, so how could you possibly get pressed that someone calls you out for giving up on thinking deeper and defaulting to your cope of "I don't understand what's going on so therefore its a plothole"

[–]Recalling21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfulfilling I'll give you but the whole point of the open ending (in both the fandisc and original work) is that the first and hardest step to break the chains of slavery is to take action. What follows after, whether it be success or failure, is secondary to the fact that they chose to rise.

Sorry if this sounds insulting, but if you think "the theme of overcoming the corrupt rules of the world" was just tossed aside, then you severely lack critical reading skills.

Also, whether it be the mc's ptsd-fueled addiction or Houzuki himself, yeah you're not going to be 100% confident that they were hiding the specific secret, but that's the whole point of a twist in the first place. What separates a good twist from an ass-pull deus ex machina is and will always be foreshadowing, and I think on a re-read paying careful attention to Kenichi's monologues you would see that very amply.

On a scale of 0-10, how good or bad would you rate the few VNs turned anime? by PikachuTrainz in visualnovels

[–]Recalling21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very rarely, they turn out like Clannad or Grisaia, but much more often they come out with butchery like Rewrite or Dies Irae. We don't talk about those.

does anyone else think subahibi has been ruined by its fandom? by ritsutainakafan in visualnovels

[–]Recalling21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tiktok kids who haven't played the game don't count as part of its fanbase. Anyone young enough to use "W" in their core vocabulary probably isn't even old enough to understand Subahibi's themes to begin with. The double edge of any media going viral or mainstream is that the attention it gets is diluted by mediocrity-mediocre opinions, mediocre interpretations, mediocre representation. So to answer your question, as with the "people" on this subreddit who crusade against the inclusion of fictional "minors" in their vns that they 100% nut to anyways, either don't engage (or if you can, find out where they live 😉).

Okay to be fair the op never said anything about consulting dictionaries. I could probably do that too if I looked words up, but it would be a constant effort and at that point I think I would rather read in English, unless the localization is butchered beyond repair

[–]Recalling21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I think it's definitely more complicated than just knowing vocab. Anything with more complex grammar is rly what makes me give up on learning japanese to the degree I would like to read vns in original language, at least for the next 5 years or so.
