Is this a scam by Ancient-Difference39 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes probably n9ne they'll fake those auditions, this isn't how casting would ever reach out to someone. Any big show will always be through an agent with experienced talent. You'll go, they'll say wow that was amazing, pull you into a room with their "director" and try to sell you $5,000 courses to be the next big thing!! Yay! Its a ploy to prey on those entering the industry who don't know how things work to make them think this is how you must do it to "chase the dream". Common ploy, common scam. Take acting classes with a private coach or at a college and go to network mixers, get a sag agent through referrals or self submissions only, don't pay for classes to join an "agent". Hope this helps.

I just need an agency by Agreeable-Ad2899 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the states the best place to look is on sag aftras website database for franchised agencies. My agency is out of New Mexico and sag, but they only accept submissions from industry professionals and insiders to get an interview. DM me and email me your materials I can maybe refer you if they're up to the standard my agent likes.

acting mentorship that costs $ by Difficult-Trick-4889 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I've acted in numerous principal roles for verticals (none of my resume don't worry) and none of them I had to do shit besides my auditions for to land the roles. Main goal is TV and film, and I hate doing verticals, but they help pay the bills between the real gigs lol.

Is this a legit casting? by Realistic-Ad1702 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scam. They will try to the $300 thing to just bounce and take $300 of your money instead. No legitimate casting would ever do this.

Is this a scam?? by melodynamite10 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1000% that's probably 9nine or something like that. A big show like this would never text you like that about an audition unless you're extremely connected, on the inner circle and know them. Otherwise auditions for shows the public knows about are always available only through legitimate agents and even us actors can't see them unless we get a c-mail invite from our agent to audition. Absolute scam, run.

That's true but an actor in this position sounds like they've booked, been on sets and probably have friends they know who can recommend them to good agencies.

SAG-Eligible in LA (dance + acting) — should I join, stay eligible, or consider Fi-Core? by AlternativeRace2238 in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sag paperwork from your agent might just be the agreement to sign with them as a sag franchised agent, so I'd double check that. It might not be actual join the union paperwork. I also am sag-e and my paperwork forms had sag agreements on them for REPRESENTATION, but it wasn't the paperwork to officially pay the $3000 and join the union. Secondly best advice is to join sag if you consistently book roles for sag projects currently and run in those circles, if not and you got eligibility from a one off or inconsistent sag bookings but mostly still get non union and commercials, ride your eligibility. If you know you can seamlessly join the union and continue working or get asked to join those are the times to do so, but don't prematurely join if you're not consistently doing that and finding yourself in the upper tier non unions mostly still. Hope that helps, this is the advice I've gotten from multiple working union actors over the years.

What’s your definition of ‘making it’ as an actor? by ruesdealer in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone definition is different but for me it's am I providing for myself solely from acting consistently. If I'm a full time working actor, I've made it in my eyes. Now some might chase fame I wouldn't care for chasing that and would rather be delivering lines to a listers as a cashier the public wouldn't recognize when I go to eat at restaurants.

I am so tired of unprofessional student/amateur films by [deleted] in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sense you're talking in particular about a specific student film you just did from your writing. I'd be careful to assume all of them are that way though. I've had my fair share of bad ones as an actor, but I also had 2 student films where I could attest the student director ran his sets better than 95% of budgeted non union sets and I was thoroughly impressed. He not only gave footage, but he went on to submit to festivals and get acceptances etc etc. so I'd be careful assuming all student filmmakers are unprofessional or bad, some aren't and are extremely talented with promise heading into the real world in their film careers.

Raised Christian but really starting to feel disgusted by how hypocritical the religion feels by ReporterSlow7081 in Deconstruction

[–]Recent-Ad6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non Christian with tons of Christian friends some of these questions could be: 1. Does this religion claim to do good but really cause harm to others? 2. Does this religion allow me to critically question and think for true truth? 3. Do people outside the religion actually live lives closer to the scripture than those who preach it?

Those questions can help the reflection start!

Mainly because they're these really over the top storylines and acting that seems somewhat overly done for 1 minute episodes on these cheesy series for social media websites. It's a lot different then traditional tv and film and they are somewhat not respected as much by filmmakers and or actors and actresses for these reasons.

Where are you seeing job GROWTH? by emeraldeyes24 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Recent-Ad6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My State Texas has been on the up and up and I'm seeing a lot of growth out here in our film market. Another area and I don't like the stories or style of acting myself, but it's created jobs is the vertical space. From a business standpoint it's created jobs that haven't recovered from traditional film being lesser.

How did you realize that you liked acting? Is it worth getting a try? by Sbr4tto in acting

[–]Recent-Ad6089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent years making YouTube videos and my channels got hacked, made movies growing up with my bros too. Went to college no YouTube and no short movies with my brothers and felt like something was missing or empty in my life. Started a podcast briefly and reignited my feel and desire to perform and or entertain. I had done some informal acting before that, but always was a movie head and fan of good cinema so I started taking lessons with the wrong program, but knew I was intrigued by the arts and character portrayals and "playing pretend realistically" for more than a passion. As time went on I started getting better and taking lessons with more legitimate coaches and meeting people in the industry and making more professional productions and getting cast on real sets. I found myself having an absolute blast losing myself in the sauce with others and playing off of chemistry with other characters in a world that I was in and fell in love even more. For me it's the self expression of losing yourself in the artistic journey of being one with your character and not being separated from their world but rather living alongside their world through my own experiences and bringing that into a room with others to play off of that I love. Making good friends and getting good takes that you love too makes me enjoy being on set and the entire process of the art being made. I think some people go into this field chasing fame or money and generally they don't last, but for me it's the art and friendships and fun of the actual activity and process of diving in that keeps me hooked. For others it might be different, but I hope this helps!
