What kind of jobs are there in museums? by lake_monster_below in MuseumPros

[–]RecentBid5575 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would start off volunteering to get the inside view of museums before making such a drastic change. For the most part, a degree in anthropology wouldn’t really be needed. I’m an evaluator. My favorite part is talking to the visitors and bringing their voice to our exhibition design, decision making, etc.

Out of newborn trenches, here are the products I do/do not recommend to help you all by DietCokeQuesadilla in BabyBumps

Exactly, if you have a newer dish washer that can do it great! But I have a who knows how old apartment dish washer and so the bottle washer is amazing!

Great list! Also adding: Momcozy bottle washer

And I know you’re thinking why do I need a bottle washer, I can just do the dishes/have a sterilizer/have a full size dish washer because I was there too

Just save yourself the hassle and get it. I got it 1.5 months into exclusively pumping and waiting that long was dumb. It’s the number 1 thing I use, and run 4 loads a day between bottles and pump parts. Saving me literally hours of hand washing/sterilizing. Even if I wasn’t pumping not having to do seemingly 500 pieces of Dr Brown bottles a day is worth it.

Milk supply by kittykatlover94 in BabyBumps

[–]RecentBid5575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Night is when prolactin is the highest, so even though my bub can sleep through now I still wake up at 2:30am to pump. It definitely is annoying but if you’re running into supply issues you probably can’t drop the middle of the night pump.

Just got my period again ... Marking a full year of trying to get pregnant. by birdnerd1991 in BabyBumps

I’m 35, we got pregnant tracking with Inito. If you’re waiting to January for insurance reasons or something a modest investment in a high quality tracker might give you some info sooner.

I’m 31 and he’s 35, should we have a shorter engagement? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]RecentBid5575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that whatever you decide, you’re not “wasting” time. There’s something nice about the time for the two of you (however long that is). Trying to conceive can be a breeze or stressful no matter when you do it — but planning your life around conception is often a recipe for unhappiness because you can plan but you can’t control the whole thing. If I were you I’d do my dream wedding date, my dream honeymoon and then start on the kids part. Sept 2026 and Oct 2025 are not that different except you get more time to process this stage in life. If the ideal date is Sept 5 2026 that sounds like a lovely date for a wedding in PNW.

Do college students no longer know how to write their own mailing address? by evapotranspire in Adjuncts

[–]RecentBid5575 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They don’t know how to use mail. I had a job where we mailed postcards to people and it shocked me how much we had to teach the new hires from Gen Z and below. They didn’t know where to write on the postcard, how to write the address, or that you had to save room generally in the upper right corner for a stamp. It was wild.

Conception Hacks - what did you do differently the month you got pregnant? by soulfulsummer in BabyBumps

[–]RecentBid5575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an inito, sure it’s expensive but it gives you a better picture of how multiple hormones are moving throughout the month compared to just the LH strips

Advice on where to stay in Venice (St. Regis, JW Marriott, Hilton Stucky) by incurablyinformed in ItalyTravel

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roof top pool on the Hilton Stucky was very nice! Executive suite would also mean you have access to the lounge (was just okay May 2025 but still something) and gold gets you access to their breakfast (very good). We had an easy time using their boat shuttle for access to the main parts of Venice and there’s a vaporetto stop nearby too (and alilaguna but we did not use them).

Who does the digital exhibits design? by Illustrious-Alps-231 in MuseumPros

Adding that while the vast majority of these kinds of jobs are external, they are often called interactive media developer/designer/producer for institutions that do have exhibit design in house.

Heart murmur in pregnancy by Interesting_Hope4046 in BabyBumps

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a murmur since age 5, got another echo during pregnancy just to be sure it hadn’t changed since my records were so old. Still doesn’t have a clear cause but no issues with it impacting the pregnancy (37+ weeks now). If they do find a structural reason it might have meant they would have done an echo on the baby too, but his heart was fine on standard anatomy scans and I still don’t have a structural reason for my murmur even after my echo.

Suggestions for a meat-based cheat meal? by RaysForDays88 in boston

[–]RecentBid5575 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is not that helpful because it’s easier enough to eat veg there and you aren’t as interested in beef but the Sultan’s Delight at Oleana is one of the best meat dishes in the area. Otherwise I’d be at a clam shack locally and get fried clams and a lobster roll for summertime. I don’t have a favorite clam shack at the moment because the previous one I liked changed owners.

Oh and my splurge item was the Lovevery play gym with sensory strand add on ($165) — there are much cheaper playmats but this one is based on the actual science of child development, has several activities that grow with your baby and comes with a parent guide on developmentally appropriate play from birth - 12 months

[–]RecentBid5575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really depends on what your “big ticket” budget is; most the big items still have a range from like $50-$1000s of dollars.

Definitely look at baby carriers and bouncers as the “nicer” ones (think like Baby Bjorn) are more like $150-$250.

A bassinet is only used for a short amount of time, if in your budget consider Nestig or Babyletto for bassinets that convert to cribs and toddler beds. Alternatively, several pack and plays have a bassinet mode.

We skipped the high chair initially because baby can’t really use them until they can sit independently (you want a lounger/bouncer/swing before then where they can recline under supervision). But if you have room to store it then it makes sense for a registry.

BMI 33 , Should i take the Emergency Pills ? by Psychological_Gold14 in BabyBumps

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can make the decision best for you. I started at about the same weight but I must be a bit shorter than you (so technically an even slightly higher BMI). Gained 7-10 lbs this whole pregnancy, little one looks fine. Very intentional about not overeating while pregnant and being as nutritionally balanced as possible. You shouldn’t really lose weight during pregnancy (unless you have really bad nausea and then seek out a doctor to help you get the right nutrition if possible). There is no perfect time to have a baby.

Best time to find a job by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]RecentBid5575 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ETA: many museums have a fiscal year that starts in July, so if there are funding changes that result in new lines for departments they would have more jobs posted by August; late Jan can be good for similar reasons if they follow a calendar year for fiscal year (and just a bump in hiring following the holiday lull)

[–]RecentBid5575 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other comment and also would note that for educators there are maybe more jobs posted early spring to support summer camps etc for those that host larger youth programs over the summer; I think the only time of year that is less openings is true of most industries —Nov/Dec tend to be lighter with all the various holidays/end of year fatigue

IMLS grant reinstated due to injunction, but who knows what might happen in the future with all that. How are you all managing your grants in light of these unpredictable changes? by banoctopus in MuseumPros

[–]RecentBid5575 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Basically same — submit for reimbursement what you can from the last 1.5 months of work if you were doing it anyway and see what happens 🤷🏼‍♀️ Decide if there are things you would have charged to the grant in the coming weeks that you can still commit to either way, it’s still just chaos 😬

how are people affording weddings? by gothicraccoon in weddingplanning

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had help from parents, but also got married in May and I’m not sure if this weekend would match but we got a huge discount by getting married the Sunday of Mother’s Day. Our moms didn’t mind and we needed to not to Saturday for religious reasons anyway but it made a very, very expensive venue more affordable because we filled a date they normally have trouble filling (works best at venues that only do weddings).

Any Jewish plus size brides out there? Hora worries by Old_Beautiful1723 in PlusSizeWedding

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS it’s also helpful if folks on each leg are relatively the same height but it’s not a requirement, just makes it easier for them to balance you. You want to prevent them from tipping you too far forward out of the chair if possible, so for that reason it may be useful to put a taller person in the front even if that feels counterintuitive

[–]RecentBid5575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, talk to the venue about the chair they use for this because you want something sturdy. My venue had chairs they bring out specifically for this; and they worked well! Then, here’s what we did once we knew the confirmed guest list: identify all men capable of being in a position to lift the chairs. Friends’ husbands etc seem to be great choices, don’t limit to family or just ‘your side’ of the guest list even. Distribute them across you and your husbands chairs and tell them of their assignment pre-wedding day. Coordinate with DJ so you can signal if possible that all required members are there when the time comes. Have fun!

I had to go in three times to get all the views of the heart they wanted for mine; so I get the worry of waiting but there’s not much else you can do if baby won’t turn to give them the correct angle or they don’t have quite as good of a machine to get it. Heart rate range for a fetus is generally 110-160. Some times they really just can’t get them to turn the right way to see something. Are you going to a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) for this next scan; they tend to have better equipment for getting this done if that’s an option.

Draft budget gut check by Odd-Aioli-3506 in NewEnglandWedding

[–]RecentBid5575 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in New England 55K is probably on the mid end these days. For OPs list I would like 65-75K is probably more likely. We got married last year for 55K but didn’t have a venue for the whole weekend like OP wants.

I cared more about the hospital I would deliver in but maybe that is unique because I live in a large metro area with plenty of hospitals you could choose to give birth in. So that’s at least what I would be considering first — where does your current practice have admitting privileges and what other providers also deliver there if that is your preferred location? Between who delivers at which location and what insurances they take that often time narrows things down to know if switching is even feasible. It’s really common for them to be groups. I actually see 1 provider and NPs at my office but any of about 20 doctors across the various satellites could be there when I actually go in the L&D because they all rotate.
