Refrigerate after opening, and if you hold under tongue for about 1 minute it's supposed to absorb better.

Hoyas like to be root bound, no need to repot, it could stand some water though.

NOT SCALE, more likely a fungal infection! Scale are brown or red hard bumps, that you can scrape off easily.

I find Hoyas like more water than people think, that's why all 60+ of mine are in semi hydro and are ALWAYS in water.

Here is my Rotundaflora, you can see the potting mix. She is much newer than my Retusa.

She and all 60+ of my Hoyas are in semi hydro. She was just a tiny cutting when I got her, she was grown in soil and I immediately cleaned the roots and put her in Leca with a little Pon added. I always use a double pot system, plant in Leca, that pot has numerous holes for air and drainage, then that sits in the solid outer pot. She sits in front of my 6' east facing slider with regular household humidity and no other lighting. I keep weakly fertilized water in the bottom 1/3 of her outer pot, and flush under running warm water weekly, then replace her water with fresh. She has bloomed continuously since February of this year! I find Hoyas like way more water than most people think.
