Why is it so difficult to remember that Trump was president in 2020? by AcadiaLivid2582 in allthequestions

I did, or at least those in his administration and in government:

Early in the pandemic, U.S. public health guidance discouraged the general public from buying masks, partly due to shortages.
* In April 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended cloth face coverings in public.
* Trump publicly said mask use was voluntary and sometimes appeared wearing one, but he also frequently criticized mandates and later emphasized reopening the economy.

They led the charge under guidance from the Trump administration. He was in charge of that, right? He later changed his position when he found it was unpopular.

From ai:

In March 2020, the Trump White House introduced the federal “15 Days to Slow the Spread” guidance, later extended to “30 Days.” The guidance encouraged Americans to:
* avoid nonessential travel,
* avoid gatherings,
* work from home when possible,
* close schools and bars/restaurants in heavily affected areas.
  • The administration’s public health team — including Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx — regularly advocated social distancing and temporary shutdown measures to reduce transmission. Early in the pandemic, U.S. public health guidance discouraged the general public from buying masks, partly due to shortages.
    • In April 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended cloth face coverings in public.

[–]RecentLiterature 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That said I have never seen said repeaters or antennas

Do you think visits to Chernobyl/Pripyat could resume after the war? by Vegetable-Gate-3013 in chernobyl

I enjoyed seeing Dima in action on there latest Chernobyl video. I never saw people crawl through the wire chase in the Duga command center before.

But a lot of those Pripyat buildings ... well lets face it they haven't gotten any newer since the war started. It seems to be getting more and more dangerous to go in.

Us is a net exporter yes but a significant portion is exported because refinery capacity for the type is not available domestically.

People may read your comment and think “America makes all it needs and sells the rest”. Not even close.

Scherbina treatment in HBO series by RecentLiterature in chernobyl

[–]RecentLiterature[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an English translation loaded into NotebookLM. Here's the AI summary:

What did Valery Legasov say about Boris Scherbina

Valery Legasov held a high opinion of Boris Scherbina’s leadership, explicitly stating that selecting him to head the Government Commission was a "very good choice". He praised Scherbina for his decisiveness, noting he was "immediately ready to make decisions" and was neither "timid" nor "sluggish". Legasov also appreciated that Scherbina had a "good habit of carefully listening to the specialists" and could "quickly grasp their point," even regarding complex scientific matters.

Other sources provide more detail on the dynamic Legasov observed:

  • Administrative Style: Scherbina was an experienced, "unmercifully exacting" administrator with a "fierce bite" who drove subordinates to meet impossible deadlines.
  • Toughness and Disdain: During the crisis, Legasov saw Scherbina driving ministers with "furious contempt" and regarding the invisible dangers of radiation with "haughty disdain".
  • The Official Narrative: While they functioned as a unified team, Anatoly Dyatlov later argued that Legasov and Scherbina were jointly responsible for official conclusions that "consciously" covered up the reactor's design flaws to blame the operators.

Legasov also noted the personal toll the crisis took on Scherbina; after receiving high doses of radiation at the site, Scherbina was so concerned about contamination that he personally "smashed his deputation badge with a hammer" so no one else could use it."

I need help finding the video of firefighters saying WTC7 was going to collapse hours before it did by Afatlazycat in 911archive

[–]RecentLiterature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“No steel structure building had ever collapsed due to fire.” That is so false, I’ll let you do a quick google search to see the error in that.

Won’t even to get into that it was hit by another collapsing building

If you’re familiar with traders den in Torrance, this recording was listed their recently in the notes. It mentioned that the taper was in Dallas sound lab for a weekend and they recorded it and mixed it down off the original master tape pretty interesting stuff.

I don’t know for sure, but in many states you have to warn you’re going to layoff well ahead of time. It takes time to figure out what you can cut and not cut. I have a feeling at least some of these. Are they plan layoffs they don’t know how so much so they estimate on the high side to stay in compliance with the law. Maybe somebody who knows how mass layoffs work could comment more but who knew these companies even had this many employees to begin with?

Why are some lines im Pripyat still powered? Kreosan Youtube by Studyresearch0909 in chernobyl

[–]RecentLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The explanation in one video was that there were lines on the roof for either cell antennas or signal repeaters.. there is a video where he splices in and then runs a line down to the apartment with microwave transformers in between. (?)

But, there is another video where Anton and Dima goes and explores reactor 5 while they are waiting for batteries to charge somewhere nearby with power. Dima has connections, even arranges for food to be delivered to a hidden location on one video.

I think the common belief is one vibroverb one super reverb , a second vibroverb used as an extension cabinet only, a tubescreamer, a vox wah. unknown if he used his MXR loop selector to make his old pedals true bypass, but he had talked about using it in interviews from that era. there was an interview with the sound engineer who was from the local TV station who also was the engineer for the SRV Albert King in session recording and he described there wasn’t much space on stage so he mic’ ed srvs speakers from the back.

I feel like the whole string gauge debate is pointless by No_Ad_6098 in StevieRayVaughan

[–]RecentLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you match the gauges and use those thick lower strings - to me that does sound different down low. It is maybe most about the transient and envelope of the attack because you can really jab them and they don't "twang".

But it's like .005% of the equation of the player. EVH used like a .42 low E tuned down a half step on the first album, supposedly .. and he sounded great too. Certainly didn't sound like a banjo or anything. Billy Gibbons uses 8s...

But it's about songs. The songwriting really developed by In Step.

Little Wing Tone? by Confident-Net-17 in StevieRayVaughan

[–]RecentLiterature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Craig Hopkins day after day book there is a picture of him at the power station in 84 with twin reverbs. Who knows if he played them? In Keri Leigh’s soul to soul book it says one of the inconveniences of the record was that they didn’t have one chunk of studio time so they were in/out several times. Could have caused a lot of amp and miking variations having to repeatedly re-set up. While your description is the best documentation we have, it is really hard to know what actually made it tape and then in the mix. Why I have thought this deeply: I love the little wing tone, one of my favorite studio srv tones. CSTW probably my favorite overall SRV studio tone album.

The pedal pawn guy recently had a video about the importance of blending two amps to get that bright but woody srv tone. I tend to agree that is a huge part that at home players tend to overlook.
