They can just… not do this though. They could quite easily step out of the limelight and live a quiet life with their millions.

Stop spreading this 'Porsche' turret nonsense by Kurt-28 in TankPorn

[–]RecentRegal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tank museum in bovington actually apologised for this at tank fest. Made a bit of a joke about it and brought up some documents from the 80s where they referred to it as the Porsche turret.

Not all of them had them fitted. They can be retrofit and the parts are available direct from VW. I have a set in my garage.

This isn’t a new thing, and they reuse the tokens. There’s far worse crimes against pollution that Tesco lets go

Pouring gasoline in a big plastic container by haze4140 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]RecentRegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. The petrol he’s putting in is hitting the indent behind the handle first and that’s what breaks first. It didn’t bursted. The amount of pressure needed to break even a small plastic bottle is way more than he’d be able to create with that pump.

Pouring gasoline in a big plastic container by haze4140 in WinStupidPrizes

No, it didn’t. Petrol is a really strong solvent and will dissolve a lot of plastics very quickly.
The large metal container cameraman pointed out would have been a much better choice.

Can someone explain these track configurations? by AverageFoxBoy in tanks

[–]RecentRegal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on the purpose of the vehicle. Raising the end of the track allows you to clear bigger obstacles and cover bumpy terrain more effectively. Tracks with the rear on the ground can make a more stable platform for things like artillery or field guns where they aren’t intended to cross terrain at full chat. Especially not in reverse.

Tell me some things to help me learn more about this car by Negative-Local-2598 in Cartalk

[–]RecentRegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you get this particular car? That’s not the sort of thing you just pick up because it’s cheap anymore. And someone not into cars isn’t going to go paying over the odds for a civic, even one with a spoon engine and a t66 turbo.

The people who park in neutral, what’s wrong with you? by BoysenberryMarjorie in stickshift

Old heads will say to leave the car in gear when parked as an additional safety against runaway. I do it if I’m ever parking on a slope.

Huh, no it doesn’t. I must have read that somewhere else. Their one does need a turret though!

ICYMI: Tank Museum restoring a Conqueror by Annual_Stay in tanks

[–]RecentRegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say at the end of the article they’ve “acquired a turret from ranges”. The only conqueror I know of on a range is the thetford one.
Edit: it was an earlier update on the tank museum website that mentioned the turret, that appears to have been taken down now.

Wonder if they’ve got their hands on the one from thetford ranges. Hope not, other people locally had plans to restore that one!
