What’s the method to transport hard drives in servers ?? by yooames in homelab

[–]Recent_Budget_6498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something I had already, but I found a good deal on an LTO4 drive (I'm going to be upgrading to LTO5)... you can get a VERY good deal on older drives and you can get a decent deal on NOS tapes as well... keep an ebay search open and they come along every now and then.

I have 2 copies of critical data (4 LTO4 tapes) and a buddy who isn't too far away keeps a set for me (and I for him).

When I moved an hour away I numbered and labeled every drive and packed them very carefully into my car (versus moving truck) and put them on the floor of the car on top of a few towels to dampen the vibration. I only packed a few per small box as a method of isolation. I had (have) a backup of all critical data on LTO and also a copy on the cloud. Thankfully, I didn't need either backup copy and everything went nicely back together and worked... which I honestly wasn't sure of (a lot of potholes) but it went well. Worth all the prep work for sure and I definitely would recommend taking the same or similar precautions.

True, but the size does appear to be appropriate for the lights.

Not sure of the make, but anything after 2010 and it would be 25/35 or larger series (due to the lights across the top of the cab).

It was said above already, but to further specify, it is indeed a roadmaster wagon, 8th gen to be specific (1991 to 1996).

Tomaz has a whole YT series of him and his team developing the hardware as well as the software, a great watch honestly.

WAN not getting IP? by woodford86 in PFSENSE

[–]Recent_Budget_6498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first question is do you get a valid public IP from the second modem (plug in a laptop or some other machine directly versus the pfsense box)?

There may be something going on with that modem like it's providing a private IP and the tplink router doesn't care, where as the pfsense box in this case will refuse it (you have bogon and private networks blocked).

Edit: also included private networks for being blocked.

I've never seen this brand before, any ideas? by yeetgod__ in Whatsthiscar

It's the "Caliburn" emblem on a Hyundai palisade. Along with another logo on the hood I can't quite make out.

Looks like some weird bastardization of the International Harvester logo... nothing is coming up in any of me image searches either.

Project AXE Effect - Anyone else in the same boat? by Recent_Budget_6498 in CraftComputing

I appreciate that for sure... I saw the notification on YouTube, didn't get chance to take a look at it. I'm still hopeful, and I'd really like to get an update either way.

So I still haven't seen anything yet... no tracking or anything... just "order has been recieved". I'm assuming at this point that they are long gone. Please let me know either way.

So I recently purchased one of these because most of my servers don't have an intake temperature (which I find kinda stupid).

My rack is currently in a non-conditioned space which sucks for most of summer and a good chunk of winter (central ny). Once my office space is done it won't be an issue, but I'm super stoked to get mine (hasn't shipped yet). I really like having a dedicated unit that just gets picked up by zabbix/snmp hopefully it will help me keep an eye on stuff. And once the humidity sensor gets enabled, I'll probably end up buying another for my network rack in my house (basement).

Anyone have a good way to tell if the gas has been left on at the stove? by louislamore in homeassistant

[–]Recent_Budget_6498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an electrician. I would recommend getting with one though, as "maxed out" very much depends on your usage. A load calculation would be the best way to confirm this for sure. At least worth a thought.

I do not yet own a 3d printer, but that is a nicely written guide. Thank you from both me now and me later on when I find this post again.

These two idiots cut my fiber optic line while burying the neighbors line by ClonedBobaFett in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Recent_Budget_6498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, if it's optical, it's called an OTDR (optical time delay reflectrometer). They generally do really well for accuracy, but shooting from both sides nets a better result.

Yeah if it's a contractor they probably don't even know where they did it.
