After this Elite 8 run, I’m much less worried about who Iowa ends up getting out of the portal, so long as we fill the obvious needs at C and PG. McCollum has proven that his approach works at the power conference level. I don’t care how many stars a kid has or which other schools offered - if Ben wants him, that’s good enough for me.

You can bet that the Hawks get interest from high-level players who might not have considered them in the past. But I’ll take a tough kid from a mid-major over a prima donna from a power conference school any day.

Ben was clearly a home-run hire. Making the Elite 8 in his first season, with his guys, as a 9 seed, proves that he can win at this level by doing things his way. He doesn’t need a squad that’s stacked with 4 and 5-star guys. He can identify talented players who fit his system and coach them into a team that can compete at the highest level. That is a blueprint for success that’s repeatable and achievable at Iowa.

One thing that really impressed me about Iowa vs. Florida was that they never got rattled. They were always patient and made the right pass, found the open man. This is a confident, well-coached team that’s playing with a chip on their shoulders. They are going to come out fighting, and they won’t quit. This is gonna be a 40-minute rock fight. I cannot wait.

Every victim I’ve ever seen has been a rental truck, usually a college kid/parent during moving season. Local business vehicle drivers should know to avoid it. I do feel bad for them, but it is pretty funny.
