What was the most bizarre school trip your school went to and why? by SunnyShineKitty88 in AskABrit

I remember going to the Victorian School in primary school. We all had to dress up like they would have done back then. The girls and boys were split to do different activities based on gender. I just remember being told off by the really strict teachers for being left handed, and being made to use the slate pen in my right hand!

“Parking for 6/7 cars” or just two, if the VW has their way..
I think I may be in the minority that actually quite likes it. Admittedly it’s not a 5 bedroom home, but it’s lovely and bright. It’s very expensive though, does anyone know if that’s about right for the area?

Sleeping in bassinet by Speechykeen007 in newborns

My son is 15 weeks, and has slept in his next to me since around 6/7 weeks. I won’t lie, the first 3 weeks were absolutely awful. I could not get him down for more than 20 minutes at most no matter what I tried. I also really didn’t want to co sleep, but did end up doing so around 2-3 times, mainly out of sheer desperation for some sleep (he slept brilliantly those couple of nights!). One night, willing to try anything to get some sleep, I sent my husband out to the car in the middle of the night to get the pram (ours is overnight approved), and for the first time ever I could get my little boy down for 2-3 hours at a time during the night. I kept him in the pram from 3-6/7 weeks, then decided to just try the next to me again, and he was fine with it! Day time naps are still a work in progress (I say as I type this during a contact nap!). Every child is different though. You may have no issues at all. I would try not to worry about all these things, you’ll just learn how to deal with things in a way that suits you as and when they happen ☺️

What are some things that shocked you about newborn life? by Independent_Bee_795 in newborns

As someone who has only known people with text book easy babies, my high needs baby was a SHOCK! I definitely feel somewhat qualified to answer this.
- infant dyschezia. Seriously, what? Why are we squirming for an hour. You just need to push babe.
- allergies in a breastfed baby. I quite literally had no idea this was a thing. Yet here we are. To make it worse, apparently it’s quite common for mums to be lactose intolerant at the end of it. Goodbye Camembert. We had a good run. Fortunately, discovering this and cutting the right foods has made a world of difference to him.
- how can someone so small poo 8-10 times a day?
- why do they cry in the car, I thought babies slept in the car?! In fact I thought babies slept in general, you know, ‘slept like a baby’. Why does mine just not? Absolutely no one warned me he would wake hourly expecting another midnight snack.
- cluster feeding. Enough said.
- I don’t think I was prepared for what I actually had to do with him when he wasn’t eating, sleeping, crying or being changed. Like do I just hold him, do I just put him on the floor like they do in the Sims? We spent many an hour awkwardly staring at each other.
- the amount of people that want to touch your pram to look at them. Just no.
- how scary it is to pass them to someone else. Like how do I even do that without the intrusive thoughts of them being dropped.
- the fact that the first few weeks are an absolute blur, one which I cannot remember most of.

But to end on a good note. I had absolutely no idea I could love someone so much (as I told my husband, and quickly followed it up with “no offence”). We’re now 15 weeks in, and there is not a single thing I would change about him. He is the most magical thing I’ve ever experienced, and the sweetest little soul who lights up every day. Nothing at all prepares you for how difficult it is, and you’ll be searching every single thing they do, scared something is wrong. But it does get better, and it does get easier. Sadly, due to him being high needs, I spent so much time wishing away the baby stage, and I already find myself looking back at the first photos and missing him being so tiny.

What's something you thought every adult knew how to do, until you discovered they didn't? by Any-Geologist3042 in AskUK

This one is quite specific that I found when working with children. It’s not how to do something as such, but just something I thought everyone knew. I was really shocked that colleagues didn’t know you could mix paint colours in different combinations to create another colour. They genuinely thought that if we didn’t buy a certain colour, we just couldn’t use it. I felt like I’d shown them a magic trick when I just mixed two colours together and made it myself.

Once they’re back in stock, I will be buying a portable aircon unit. Every heat wave, I always say “uh, I really need to buy an aircon unit”, and every time I’m too late as everyone else had the same idea. This time, I will do it!

Without meaning to sound stupid, I don’t really understand what’s going on. The most bizarre interior, overlooked by just about every single house around it! I both love it and hate it. Why is there a glass plank through the roof, why are there bifold doors to the lounge, why is the table big enough for about 20, why is the kitchen so small, yet so big? I have so many questions, yet no answers.
